Halo 3 - now coming to Xbox One. MC Collection.

Does anyone get that Halo feeling? That Halo 3 will be as important to the 360 as the Halo was to the original Xbox?

Will this be the franchise that has sustained and propelled to success two generations of a console?

P.S. I like sounding epic and stuff... :(

My gut feeling makes me feel like this will be the best yet.

It's unlikely though, no amount of psychological research and gameplay 'improvement' can win in the face of an almighty, unrepeatable fluke.

I think so. I genuinely think that this will have far more of a hardware sales impact than many are predicting - particularly when you combine it with the rest of the 360's Autumn lineup. The big first-party games all look like they're turning out brilliantly, which is more than can be said for Sony at this point. They really need Uncharted and Ratchet to be incredible.

If all they have to counter the 360's line up is those two games then they are in trouble. Bear in mind I will get both of them but they are not in the same league as the AAA titles coming out for the 360.

just thought that I would brag a little (considering that I'm trapped in the microsoft building working midnights this week for the Halo 3 launch) where I've been surrounded by literally millions of copies of said title that we've been shipping out the past 2 weeks.

here's one for everyone; the legendary package is massive. bundled at only 2 pcs. per shipping container, each box within measures about 12"x11"x13" in size and weighs in at over 7lbs!!!

Any ideas on numbers of the Legendary edition. Are they really scarce or is that scaremongering?

Although speaking entirely personally, I agree. If I was playing multiplayer with mates it was almost always with the original Halo. Halo 2 didn't get the same attention, although I've never figured out why. I reckon that Halo 3 will have the same impact, especially due to Forge. It's the obvious choice for gamer's game of the year (at least sales wise), although I reckon Wii Fit will steal all the 'New Player' sales and sneak into first.

What is this thread like for spoilers, guys? I've managed to keep myself in the dark but I'm new here so I don't know how safe this place is.

Is there a high chance of someone coming in and going "ENDING IS BLAM!"?

The thing that really gets me is the big what if's regarding the campaign. My expectations are set at a smidgen higher than halo 2, as long as it delivers that, it'll be okay.

However:

What if they manage to re-create the open battlefileds of SC or AotCR but on a larger scale, with better AI, equipment that adds more variation and elements of the combat from Multi-player.

What if they have overcome their copy and paste level design syndrome (which reeked of not enough dev time imo, which surely hasn't been a problem this time?).

What if the story has a great ending!!?!?!?!?!111//

+Forge

+Online Co-op

+Campaign scoring

Those are HUGE if's but when I think about the potential i get all giddy

Just been speaking with our local Postman and according to him they may be going on strike at some point next week

I don't have any links or hard evidence of this or even know if it's countrywide or just local, but it is in relation to the issues which caused the countrywide strikes which happened earlier in the summer.

Hopefully it won't happen or if it does it will be later in the week, but if not then anyone waiting for delivery from the usual interweb places could have a longer wait

You shouldn't worry too much. Some folks may tempt you with their youtube links but nothing worse than that :)

+Four player online Co-op

I still find it hard to believe they actually managed to cram that in, presumably working well too. It's just amazing.

This is why I'll be buying mine from a retail store next Wednesday.

That, and the fact that if I'm out when the postman delivers it they make you wait 24 hours before you can collect it from the sorting office.

The whole exterior of the Waterloo Bridge Imax cinema is a Halo 3 advert. It's huge.

I just saw this on GAF

OK, so to get the topic away from spoilers briefly, i was just listening to Radio 1 here in the UK, and they had some guy on talking about gaming news and whatnot, and obviously the topic of Halo 3 was featured. Now, one of the things they talked about was the plans for a "movie-style premiere" at some IMAX or other (i'd assume a UK one, since this is Radio 1), and one of the people attending will be Jonathon Ross, who apparently plays some part or other in the game. Which will seem really, really odd if you've every watched or listened to him. I just hope to god that whatever he plays, it's something i can shoot in the head.

It'll be interesting to see what celebrities (if any) they get in to play the marines. Last time, I think they had Orlando Jones, Michelle Rodriguez and David Cross; the first two I really couldn't give a monkey's about, but David Cross was truly amazing.

Michelle Rodriguez is back too. I heard her voice in one of the trailers. I remember the first time I heard her in game, it was during co-op and it was on the bridge bit. I don't think we managed to get across that bridge for an hour. I've nothing against her, but when you can call a marine by a name it makes them much more entertaining to run over.

Although I bet I know a few people who'll throw themselves in front of Nathan in a heroic attempt to save him at all costs.

Pharell is on the g list for the premiere too.

But Jonathan Ross?

How unlikely.

Man, I love the hype thats building in this thread and it makes me sad that I won't be getting the game til the following week, yet will have Live access to see all you swines play it. I'll have to duck out of this thread by Monday too, I'll bet. It'll be too painful...

Nathan Fillon is in this time, and the Red vs Blue team are hidden around as Easter Eggs.

Really? As one of the marines? Fucking brilliant! My anticipatometer has just twitched into life for the first time in weeks. About Nathan Fillion that is, I couldn't give a flying turd about Red vs Blue.

Nathan's in this? Fuck yeah. I'm keeping that bastard alive no matter how many restarts I have to do. Was David Cross the whiney guy with Michelle Rodriguez on the bridge? He was ace. Still, Mendoza and Aussieguy remain the best Marines. Especially Aussieguy.

Most of us who wanted to know now do but no one's saying anything revealing in here yet. Once it's out and all the facts are in posession, then there will probably be another thread for it to gossip in but rest easy, there's little chance of the kind of posts you'll see elsewhere before release.

For what it's worth, I really like what they've done but no doubt some will find plenty to complain about.

well, I know what the numbers are, however I don't feel like losing my job over something like this if they are what microsoft considers confidential especially considering that they, themselves are being more than a bit coy about the actual numbers). let me just say that if you haven't reserved the legendary set but want one, I would probably do so post haste (if it's not already too late).

and truth be told, if what I'm seeing are the final numbers for the limited and legendary editions, then they are definately limited unlike the collector's edition of halo 2 (which was approx. 2.3M of the regular edition vs. 1.7M of the collector's edition) at launch.
