Halo 3 - now coming to Xbox One. MC Collection.

I've tried to understand this opinion over and over again, but I just can't.

To me, the first game was dull. But hey, I had fuck all for my Xbox back then, so I finished it anyway. The great controls helped a lot, though.

Then the second game came. Which was so fucking boring that I stopped playing after the bit where you see a cutscene with a giant talking plant.

Seriously, WHY do you people love these games so much? Apart from the multiplayer, that is. (Which, imho, is the only reason one should ever buy these games.)

Which is why, thankfully for humanity and dragons alike, nobody ever listens to your opinion on stuff.

Halo recap for those getting ready for Halo 3.

It covers the story of Halo 1 and 2 as well as the 3 novels!

Thank you. Was intending to play through them both again before 3 came out for a refreasher, but haven't got round to it. Perfect reading for the office today.

Have been trying not to get sucked into the Halo hype machine, but failed after watching the 'Believe' ad. Everytime I think of that glowing grenade and Master Chiefs head rising, I get a chill down my spine and a huge grin across my face. Can't wait. Tis gonna be super awesome.

The second was a lot better than the crybabies make out. If it had any name other than 'Halo' on the box, it would be great.

Completed Halo 2 numerous times back when it was released. Quite often it's a trial & error ridden piece of shit with pretty bad level design and fucked up physics for the Warthog. Other times it's a very enjoyable first person shooter with okay level design and exciting enemy encounters and battles.

It was just too bad that the game mostly was about bad level design and trial & error gameplay. Also, on Legendary it was pretty broken, as all the trial & error became that much more apparent. Enemies that could see you with their sniper rifles from way across the level before you even knew there were anyone there, was just stupid design. I remember sitting there playing it whilst looking out for, and hoping for, a checkpoint so I would never have to play certain parts ever again. Never happened while playing the first Halo. You just played it and often you didn't even notice the checkpoints.

Halo 2 actually should have had another name on the box when it was released, because sometimes I can't believe that it was developed by the same people who made Halo.

I spent a big chunk of Sunday afternoon playing through four or five levels of Halo 2, and it's truly brilliant in places. There are loads of annoyances that weren't there in Halo, but levels like New Mombasa, Regret and Delta Halo are almost as good as anything in the first. Even the gas platform level seems much better than I remember it, despite having to play as the atmosphere-sapping Arbiter - It's annoying, but I can't help but think how much more I would have enjoyed the Arbiter's levels if I were playing as the Chief.

Halo 2's still got it, though. I played through Halo immediately afterwards for comparison, and while it's a much better game (and has that unbreakable Tonka Toy-quality that the flimsy sequel lacks), it's not outrageously better. The first battle around the pulse-tower is still the peak of the series for me, and probably the peak of gaming in general.

Are you fucking insane? Any, Valhalla is a bit like Blood Gulch but not shit. ;)

I shall mourn the passing of Lockout, however. I dearly hope that appears as DLC at some point.

I just want a map that is huge with lots of flat plains. Perfect for mass battles in vehicles. There was only Blood Gulch in the last 2 games that was suitable for such a task. Havent seen the new maps.

Ha! You know every time I read a velos post my mind automatically gives him the Strongbad voice. Nice to know it's not just me then... ((Cue thread about which forum poster is which homestarrunner character. Bagsie Bubs - although in my heart of hearts I know I'm Strongsad)).
