is this offer for Europe too?

Good question. I guess it would be rather strange to have Best Buy sponsoring a Global promotional tie-in. Maybe MS have got some other companies on board for European Live users. Or is it the case that Best Buy have a Europe/UK-based arm?

I'm sorry, but a Halo 3 Pontiac with Halo 3 headrests?

This is expensive merchandising gone beyond insane.

Isn't that just the result of one of Frankie's trademark photoshop jobs? Unless you're objecting to the car in general, which is perfectly reasonable I suppose :D

Am I the only one who thinks it's a bit obvious what's going to happen in this? It seems fairly obvious that the Halos will fire, and then everyhing will get wiped out. However, the Arc protects from the effects of the Halos, and what;s left of humanity tries to get into the Ark. So it is basically "the end of the world" (as has been aluded to in trailers) as millions will die (those on Earth who can't get to the Ark, and any humans in space or on any other planets), but it's sort of a good ending because most of the characters e know survive and there are enough people for humanity to carry on. This also explains "The Museum of Humanity", sort of. I just don't see any other way it could go.

Maybe, but my theory is a little different.

Basically, I reckon the game will end like this: the humans and Covenant will tire of the war, and agree to a contest of champions to decide who wins, in order to prevent any further bloodshed. The final level will be a boss fight between the two sides' nominated champions (Master Chief and the toughest Brute). But there's a twist: it's a rap-off. The game uses the Live headset, and you'll have to rap better than the Brute to win the war, in a Singstar stylee. Guilty Spark will be the judge of the competition, and you'll hear his "constructive" comments during the contest. It'll also have rhythm action elements, where Master Chief has to do appropriate hip-hop hand gestures.

Any team games on Xbox Live (e.g. Capture the Flag) that are tied will also be settled in this way.

But yeah, if that doesn't happen, I'll go for your theory.

Edit: the more I think about this, the more I'm convinced it's definitely how things are going to pan out. Awesome!

If the helmet had been human wearable with built in wireless headset then I'd have bought one. Otherwise...

If they had brought out a helmet with built in wireless I'd have bought four for when we are playing multi-player at my place.

That would have been AWESOME!!/SAD*

If Live is a mess for the first three days of Halo because they've made it all free at what would be by far the busiest time anyway, I'm going to be very pissed off indeed. :D

At least they will be able to claim "1 gazillion xbox live Halo 3 players on launch week".

I hope you all realize that if the Chief does not sacrifice himself and die the game will be shit story wise. The whole trilogy has been built up to this point with the idea of fighting against impossible odds. If it has a happy ending, it will suck!

Yeah but that would be like killing off JJason Bourne. There's a franchise here. No1 rule of a franchise. Never kill off the main chracter.

Kick, punch, it's all in the mind...

All Spartans must meet their Thermopylae.

Here's another vote for hoping the Chief cashes out at the end of this one. As others have said there are new Spartans out there, plus Earth's greatest hero dying in its desperate defence would add a nice gravitas to the conclusion, a 'he's going to die, he's going to die! He's dead! Oop, this cut-scene showed he escaped!' would not.

I mean, how difficult would it be to equal or exceed him with a new character anyway? He's a non-descript bloke in green armour with a gruff voice, it's pretty rubbish.

Holy shit. That sent shivers down my spine... Amazing...

It's a very well made advert, but I'm not sure I like it, because it reminds me too much of real war, instead of the larger-than-life sci-fi adventure that Halo gives us. It actually just makes me feel a bit down, rather than getting me excited about the game. Perhaps it's because some of my relatives are/were war veterans, and how it affected their lives. I guess it's the quiet, reflective tone of the advert. I want to be running around shouting with excitement when I think about Halo 3, not reflecting on the sadness of war.

Ah, good point. But I think what you felt is exactly what the ad aims for: to make you feel sad about the war, destroyed.

Either way, this is a teaser video for the upcoming ad...

If only Microsoft were this good at promoting their console...

Doesn't everyone have relatives that are war veterans?

Orphans?

Anyway, as for Master Chief dying, I think it's been too obviously implied that he will. So I suspect that he will both die and not die. Something like his body gets killed but his mind gets uploaded to a computer or something. That would work well, actually, because the devs have suggested that there's a "love story" between MC and Cortana, and either MC turning into a computer programme or Cortana turning into a real woman is surely the only way that would work.
