Yeah. I was thinking of ordering online but i want to be guaranteed the game on the day of release.

And don't know if the Royal Mail can be trusted to get me the game on day 1.

Hopefully there will be plenty of copies around on launch day...

Gameplay are usually brilliant with deliveries you tend to get it a day before if you're lucky. I got Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield 2 and Halo 2 from them on the day before release, even though Halo 2 was released to the wrong address.

What worries me most is what reviewer can I trust to keep a sense of perspective on this game? Halo2's campaign mode was widely lauded by just about every one of them despite being considerably poorer than its predecessor, I'm just worried that despite thinking they're shielded against the hype this time every journalist will still get swept up in it and lose the sharp-end of their critical faculties.

Was there anyone or any site who saw Halo2's shortcomings on release, or did they all change their tune a few months later?

Oh come now, despite Halo 2's alleged shortcomings, I don't think a single one of it's critics would dare claim that it's not worth £40 of anybody's money.

It may not be as good as Halo, but it's still better than Gears of War and COD2, which makes it very very good indeed...

I will... and I want my 40 quid back!

Are you talking single-player? If so then CoD2 wees on Halo 2's from a large height.

Hm... In what way? A game that has no AI, no physics and a level design that is really boring and filled with 'me too' moments of scripted (thus repeatable) power?

Halo 2 single player may have many shortcomings but it is nowhere near as boring as CoD 2 imo.

I'm playing Halo 2 through at the moment. Or I would be, if I didn't have to keep stopping because I hate the flood so much. And the charging Brutes. There are some great good bits, namely: parts of the Mombassa levels, most of the space station, Delta Halo, and some of the outside bits near the end. Some of the Arbiter/Flood levels are actually painful though.

Call of Duty 2 is wicked, but while we're comparing apples and oranges, who thinks Civilisation 3's single player is better than Halo 2's? I think one fucking shits on the other!

Which one? WHICH ONE, DAMMIT?

I've been dabbling too. Working through it on Heroic and I have to say it's much better than I remember it being. There are weaknesses (I'll never see dual wielding as an improvement) but the combat is fun.

My worst bit was when everything goes all firey later on. That bit was totally lost on me.

I was lucky enough to get on the cod4 beta it really is gaming at it's very best.

I don't think Halo 3 can top this after playing them both at Beta stage

I loved the Halo 3 beta and believe that it will be an excellent online game but I'd agree that the CoD4 beta has got me far more excited.

Part 2 of Jeremy Parish's Halo 2 blog on 1UP. It's interesting to see the perspective of someone who actually really liked the Arbiter's inclusion in Halo 2.

There's a short preview of "Bungie Recommends" here and an explanation, if one is needed, of the Regenerator and Invincibility.

We got a taste of the shield-depleting Power Drainer in the Multiplayer Beta; the Regenerator works the opposite way, constantly recharging the shields of anyone standing in its sphere of influence. It's a great defensive item, especially for guarding flags, hills, etc., as it essentially makes you invulnerable outside of one-hit kills. We have yet to find out what happens when you drop a Regenerator next to a Power Drain, but we expect our 360s would implode. Invincibility should be fairly self-explanatory; we only experienced it in single-player, but it will definitely be available -- though sparsely -- in multiplayer. It makes the user completely invincible for about seven seconds, and we can't wait to experiment with the results. (Covering an invincible player in plasma grenades to storm a base? Anyone?)

I think we'll need to wait for the Edge review for this... although they did give Halo 2 a 9.

Everyone will be scrabbling over themselves to have the first review or the BEST review. After the huge BioShock over-reaction - I'm suspicious of any of them now. I reckon this game is going to be excellent - but I'm not really going to pay much attention to most of the reviews...

... of course, I'll buy it on day one anyway, so it's all moot.
