ok I suppose that we have promotional copies. The writing on the photos I have on my phone, once magnificated, they state "solo per esposizione", in Italian it means: "for display only".

Strange thing is that not all the boxes have the same stickers/writing/advice, so I am a bit puzzled about the different versions of Promotional boxes, even if I am starting to think that what we have here is not the real game.

Tomorrow morning I will be checking back personally what's on the shelves!

vlad

Saturn is a chain-store in Italy and Germany, don't know about Switzerland, as someone stated. <_<

Why would they individually cellophane wrap promo boxes?

I say they're real.

I saw some promotional boxes like that in Game a few days ago. Perhaps the cellophane is there to prevent people fiddling with the box's fancy hinges, or maybe the hinges make the boxes prone to falling apart <_<

Believe me, they have. No idea why, but the boxes and tins are the exact copies of the retail boxes/tins minus the stuff inside.

Seriously people. You can't buy it yet. Move on.

He's not lying, went down to trade in bioshock today and they've got cellphane wrapped tins on the shelves (obviously they wouldn't stick them on the shelves if they weren't empty) and low and behold... there's nothing in them!

I'm waiting till I have a HDTV before I play Halo 3. Now the question for me is whether I buy the game on release day or wait for the day I have a HDTV before I buy. <_<

I played the first few hours of bioshock on a 21" 4:3 CRT and I still really enjoyed it. Moving to my new Hi Geoff telly means I have a bigger picture, which is further away and, yes, nice and sharp - but I can't say it's greatly increased my enjoyment.

Get Halo 3 and enjoy it... if it's as good as Halo 1, then you'll replay it anyway.

They are probably there to act like the dust sleeves on the real boxes. As the boxes are metal and painted on, they can get scratched. The plastic stops that.

Cancel.

OK.

Sort of. I'll be around from Friday night, due to poor calendar reading which is better. Is it really coming out on a Wednesday?

EDIT: Also, is the hat still coming out? I think I'll get the tin anyway though...it's a very nice tin.

No hat. It seems to be some sort of myth that it even existed. But no, just a tin for us.

How odd. I'm quite glad as it means I can safely avoid the danger of buying a hat not built for my head...and yet I still feel very slightly miffed.

Well there's been no official word from MS that says it's not coming out but as Moosegrinder has also noticed, there's has been no word from MS distributors, Gem, and absolutely no POS that mentions the Legendary version at all.

Stop over analysing things. It's cheaper to make a lot of the same thing than two lots of slightly different things.

Unless, careful here, you ask for more pennies for one of the versions than it actually cost you to make. That makes it un-un-cheaper-er. Or "more profitable" as some might say, but I'm trying to avoid being analytical.

And it is still coming out in the US it seems.

What? I'm saying it makes more sense that the promo boxes are identical externally to the real thing because it will cost less overall to produce the promos and the real things.

What's your point?

i thought it had a built in view-finder to help my spastic impressions of siniping and battle-rifling.

i'm not buying it without the fucking hat.

It's ok, they'll probably put an on-screen aiming reticule in this time.

1UP preview of the saved films feature, plus a little description of the flare and radar jammer:

The Flare is one of the more strategic additions to Halo multiplayer, and can be astoundingly effective when used properly. It only lasts a few moments, but completely whitens the vision of anyone facing it when it goes off. There's just enough time to slip into a guarded flag room or get the drop on a disabled opponent, especially when coupled with a melee weapon and a good way out. It's especially fun to use near open ledges, as blinded opponents simply stop moving to assure they don't plummet to their doom, opening themselves up to all sorts of destruction. The service tags were still visible in the whiteness in the version we played, but Bungie is aware of the issue and will hopefully have it resolved by launch.

The Radar Jammer tricks other players by swarming their radar with fake enemy beacons and peppering their shields with damage seemingly coming from all sides; it's disorienting chaos for the victim, and lots of evil fun for the user.

Jeremy Parish's Retronauts blog revisits Halo 2 here.

Yesterday's Bungie weekly update talks about the review event for the european press and the new version of Bungie.net. These screenshots are from an early build of the new site:

Finally, Sketch had this to say about the finished game:

Halo 2 was a fantastic game, evidenced by its review scores and the fact that about 300k people still play it every day. But it contained compromises we could never have been happy with. There were compromises that many would never have noticed nor complained about – and there were compromises you did notice and were entitled to complain about.

With Halo 3 however, there are no glaring compromises, and almost no invisible ones. We’ve not only executed on all the stuff we wanted to for Halo 2, we’ve executed on a bunch of stuff that seemed like pipe dreams three years ago. The shopping list of features is crazy. Campaign, 4 player co-op, Team Scoring, Saved Films, Forge, Multiplayer, File Sharing, the new Bnet.

The fact is that even if you end up not liking Halo 3, you probably won’t argue that it doesn’t contain a lot of stuff. I hope the reviewers like it, because otherwise they’re going to be pretty mad by the time they get done plowing through it.

I'm not sure about this flare thingy it just feels a bit like Tom Clancys Halo to me if you know what I mean. Radar jammer sounds interesting.

This game is going to be huge in more ways than one. Besides Oblivion this looks like it could be a game I'm willing to pay the RRP for........ but I will still be getting it for the cheapest price available though ;). Excitement levels rising 25 days more to go. That reminds me I may have to book some time off from work for this.

I'm a bit worried that I might not do any work ever again.

I've deliberately underhyped the campaign in my mind, such was my disappointment in parts of the Halo 2 singleplayer mode.

But OMG this game looks so far ahead of everything else it's ridiculous.

25 days!

Looks like I might be getting a cheeky early copy too... fingers crossed.
