Clan support is coming later in a dashboard update,

Definitely? When, the next one?

It had better be soon or there's little point. If they're doing it then it's well shit that they haven't made sure it was ready for Halo 3, the one game that really needs it.

Are forum tournaments going to get going in the same way if there's no defined clans to play each other?

they couldn't add it in since it was basically a second friends list with absolutely no clan options.

Eh? Why would that stop them adding it and why wouldn't there be any clan options if they did?

I'm not sure exactly, but from the way the Bungie guys were talking about it on the podcast (which was in a very wishy-washy, avoiding-the-question manner), it sounded like Microsoft had flat out forbidden them from including clan support. This is all speculation of course, but maybe Bungie are just trying to keep a lid on the issue until this upcoming dashboard update implements clan support across the board.

Other 360 games have included clan support (Battlefield and Saints Row from those I've played, others as well I'm sure) haven't they? Hopefully they're just holding off until MS do something official rather than put their own solution in.

I guess that would make sense in some ways. Remember in the run up to the 360 launch they promised global clans, not game specific ones, then that never happened? If they now know that that is going to happen, then they wouldn't want Halo 3 to have it's own internal clan system because that would end up breaking their plans for a global one.

Regardless, there is no way that Halo 3 should be coming out without clan support.

Didn't know about those two. It was conspicuous by its absence in Forza 2, mind. I really hope there is an official solution and it's coming soon.

Hopefully they'll add clan support in a very swift patch. I mean, it's Halo, they fucking have to.

Besides, I remember seeing screenshots of clan support for another game back in the spring and people reckoned it might have been included in the Beta.

*edit* Didn't read that bit about SR and Battlefield. It's a must then, surely? Hopefully they're 'doing a co-op' and revealing it later.

Who's known about it for ages? Got a link? Why did the Bungie guys rather sheepishly brush over the topic if it's known about?

Halo 3 not to support clans - http://www.2old2play.com/News/Halo_3_Clan_...t_And_Longevity

But the Autumn update will introduce clan support - http://greendayandhalo3.blogspot.com/2007/...an-support.html

So clans will be supported it seems, but via the dashboard/blades rather than directly through Halo 3.

Erm, have you actually read that link?

?

Yer it says clan support is being introduced but not on a cross-game basis - which sounds to me like you'll have to setup clans on a per game basis (which sucks). But is coming in one form or another.

Right, so you haven't read it. Here's everything they say in full:

Halo 3 clan support

at 5:40 AM

From xboxfamily.com:

Bungie mentioned in their new podcast. Halo 3 will not ship with clan support. As Frankie puts it, the clan support in Halo 2 really amounted to no more than a second friends list. The Bungie boys don't rule out the possibility that Halo 3 may support clans in the future, but don't expect to see it in the retail box next month. Oh, and don't forget that Microsoft isn't planning on implementing cross-game clan support anytime soon either.

But here's some leaked images courtesy of Iceman:

And if it had been known for ages then surely we'd have a slighty more authoritative source?

You've completely lost me.

I was talking about clan support being introduced at an operating system level, not within Halo 3.

What exactly haven't I read?

You provided that link as proof that the Autumn update will include clan support, and yet it says nothing of the sort and doesn't even confirm that clans will ever be included in any form.

Don't the pictures in the link I provided show evidence of clan support?

http://bp0.blogger.com/_rkqRbyMcp9I/RsL0y2...s/s1600-h/1.jpg

http://bp0.blogger.com/_rkqRbyMcp9I/RsL032...g/s1600-h/2.jpg

http://bp2.blogger.com/_rkqRbyMcp9I/RsL0_W...Q/s1600-h/3.jpg

And the supposedly leaked release notes for the upcoming autumn update includes clan support:

New clan support - will be able to launch clan games direct from dashboard, can "fold" friends into new clan category in friends list

Maybe I should have been more explicit about the fact none of this if 'official' - I'm merely talking about the rumours doing the rounds. I believe it'll be included, but I guess we'll have to wait for official details to know for sure.

Those pictures have been around for years and aren't linked to the story.

Fair enough if it's just rumours, it's just Angel seemed to suggest it was definitely happening, and I wanted to know what he was basing it on. And when you posted purporting to confirm I assumed you'd picked the wrong link or something.

I agree that it would seem likely, if only because it would be such a massive oversight if Halo 3 had to do without clans. Let's hope the rumours are true!

Clan support is thinking small - what Xbox Live really needs is a community option. I'm talking about a function that identifies people as members of a community like RLLMUK, and offers a way to communicate with them or factor in their achievements to your own without the need for adding them.

Anyway, clan support isn't in, and whilst it's not been ruled out for future implementation, I dare say we'll never see it on 360.

I wouldn't be surprised either but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be an oversight.

Between Halo 2's clan support or none at all, I'd obviously choose the former, but if they did change their minds and pop it in, I'd want something that wasn't just a second friend's list.

i think i'd prefer per-game clan support to be honest. what's the likelihood of all the people in your chosen clan owning & playing all the games that you do?
