Halo 3 - now coming to Xbox One. MC Collection.

Trouble was with Halo 2, there were clear 'vehicle sections', rather than the open, do-what-you-want battlefields of Halo 1.

No doubt thanks to the novelty of an AI driver... Interesting to see how they've managed to incorporate that element in this time, I won't mind if they've just ditched the whole thing really...

The higher they rate it the more people have to moan about how rubbish it is on forums like this.

I get the impression that Edge, retrospectively, think that they over-rated Halo 2. If Halo 3 gets a 9 then, I'll be jumping on it.

I'm waiting on reviews of this - and not reviews from IGN or 1up. Particularly 1up.

Bungie have repeatedly said that the only way to get videos onto a PC is to use a capture card attached to your 360's video out. Sadly.

Wasn't that mainly in the beta?

I thought they said in the full version there would be more sharing options - ie, marketplace, bungie.net, etc

The biggest battle in the first two games – the suicide run at the end of 'Two Betrayals' – could only really be won by hanging back and waiting for all the other units to eliminate each other.

I always went steaming in with the Sniper Rifle and stole a Banshee from the back.

It would be a bit strange, because I can't imagine it's a small amount of data required to convert your "video" - a load of position information vs time - into the actual pictures. The whole Halo 3 disk, for a start.

Short wmv's wouldn't take up so much though.

I have to admit to being slightly disappointed that there's one Spartan and three Elites, but only because Spartans look so damned cool. It'd just be awesome steaming into a battlefield with three other Spartans around you.

Won't make a blind bit of difference though, it'll still be brilliant.

Well, at one point Master Chief maybe will find some last remaining Spartans and, together, we will ride with them in a final suicide mission amidst a chaotic battlefield, towards certain death and sacrifice. While the announcement soundtrack plays.

I know it is stupidly geeky but I get shivers up my spine just thinking about it...

If only the Chief would shout Yippy Kayee MF before the last battle. Id die a happy man.

I had a thought what are the chances of Bungie going back and doing a graphical overhaul of Halo 1 & 2 using the engine from 3? Sort of like a classic release boxset but better?

halo 2 needs more than a graphical update.

still - all this halo talk is making my halo 3 hype levels rise.

Dodgy ending aside it's still a great game. The chances of them remaking it completely are zilch but as part of a pack that uses the Halo 3 shiny graphics engine? Wouldnt that be more likely? They will be doing it with a few of the older Halo multiplayer maps so why not the original games? They did something similar with the updates on Xbox Live as the games look much better than their Xbox counterparts.

This thread is close to 300 pages long and the game hasn't launched yet. Is it possible that Halo 3 could beat Resident Evil 4's 500? I imagine arguments about review scores, and "Is it better than 1/2" could rage for another 50 pages. T

Then we'd have multiplayer talk, matchups, metagame score contests, favourite armour permutations, video sharing, pictures of the best in-game action - it'd be huge.

Then again, it could just be given it's own subforum in Online, which would kill any interest.

The Halo 3 preview in the latest issue of Edge sheds an incredibly positive light on the game, even positioning Forge as "a feature that truly raises Halo 3 from being merely the second sequel to an Edge 10 game". The start of the highway level featured in the not-so-positive BBC preview is described as a re-envisioning of the beach landing in the Silent Cartographer i.e. a lot of friendlies charging towards a lot of enemies in a wide open battlefield. Halo 3's Game Design Lead Jaime Greisemer talks of being able to spawn all the enemies for an entire battle at once, rather than having them spawn in waves.

the bungie interview in edge a few months back made me feel a bit better about this, they seemed quite open about what was wrong with Halo 2 - but what I've seen and read in the last few days doesn't convince me... even more elites playing alongside the MC - we'll probably see bosses and even more vehicles.

There probably will be a lot of vehicles, but Greisemer does say, "We don't want to do boss battles". As a result, the scarab is AI controlled just like any other vehicle, which is a great relief.

Can we also have kamikazi marines who run at the enemy waving grenades in both hands?

Not as far as I know, but there will be grunts who do exactly that, except they'll be running towards you. Another random fact from the article is that of the game's 53,595 pieces of audio, almost 40,000 of them are lines of NPC dialogue :(

I'm trying to keep my expectations for this game in check, but I'm failing miserably :)

I was reading the Wikipedia entry for Halo 3 earlier and it mentions that there could be a couple of species of birds implemented, with flocking behaviour, that can be hunted and killed - it mentions Bungie employees going grousing, though some spoilsport has added a 'citation needed' link to that particular claim.

I can see it now, though, your entire co-op squad gets wiped out because you couldn't resist taking a pot shot at that alien cockatoo. Hooray!

Presumably they'll play a part in any stealth tactics, too, flying away en masse from any disturbances in the brush. Perhaps you could make them flap in the faces of your enemies, or at least poo on their Warthogs.

These are both good peices of news. :(
