Eh? That's so illogical I don't know where to start. Co-op is multiplayer, therefore time has been diverted from the single player campaign to get co-op online up and running.

Actually considering they have had to make the story mode work with up to four player, I'm sure plenty of time has been invested in making it work with 1,2,3 or 4 people. Halo single player didn't suffer as a result of co-op-even if it was same console, the design had to accomodate it. Its the game design that can ruin things, not focusing on features that are invested in the story mode, not the multiplayer (per say battle modes if you get pedantic). I understand time had to be invested to get it working online but it just meant that everyone gets their own screens and experiences and it will be even better.

Blabber aside Im just very excited.

It seems you can't join a game in progress though:

Like every other aspect of Halo 3, this mode is chosen from a Lobby. Simply select Campaign, choose your network (Xbox Live or System Link) and invite your friends to join you, or they can simply join your session once it’s set up and in a lobby (but they cannot join a game once it’s in-progress). They will pop into your lobby instantly, and when you have all the players you need (anywhere from one to four) you can begin the game from the beginning – or from any of your saved checkpoints.

That's a bit annoying.

Isn't Gears the only co-op game that allows you to drop in mid-game so far?

I'd hardly call it a selling point. If you're waiting for someone to join I'm pretty sure with a couple of button presses you could have a quick multiplayer game running before switching straight back to co-op when they arrive.

You can join Crackdown at any time.

Can't you?

Not really. You can opt to join a friend's game, but it then goes back to the menu before both players reappear. Same on exit - neither player will play continuously throughout. No great loss for such an open game.

Yeah, ruined by Lothar. For shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.

Also, I missed a fuckton of this thread, but why is there covenant with the Chief for 4 player coop? What have I missed? Why aren't they marines?

because Halo 2 cleary demonstrated that playing as the covenant is so much better. ^_^

Because you need to have the Chief's abilities - marines would die too easily and not be able to flip vehicles. If you've only played the games then there are no other Spartans, so Elites fit the bill - and, by the by, make sense within the story.

Simply so that the abilities of all four players are evenly balanced. It would seem that even the Arbiter's short-term cloaking device is gone. The only major difference between the four characters will be their starting weapons.

Edit: What he said.

Elites have shields.

Marines don't

It doesn't matter as the controls and whatnot is exactly the same as each other.

So only one Spartan because he is the last Spartan...except in Halo 2 there are two master chiefs when you play co-op.

Um, continuity error anyone?

No, they just decided to go with two chiefs in the co op rather than make a narrative basis for it- like Halo 1.

So why not give us two chiefs this time ... or four?

Because they decided to go with a consistent basis now. Plus it ties in with the story from Halo 2 nicely. The Master chief now commands and works with a legion of high powered elites as well as the marines. And four master chiefs would look more confusing and sillier on a full screen than just two, where you can just look at your mates screen and know instantly where he is and what he's doing. Makes sense to have four fairly different looking characters than just four clones. Gives you some identity as well, if you and me and two other people from here are playing I can instantly know and tell you are the arbiter, the other guy is the chief etc, rather than us all looking exactly the same.

I'm not sure what you're saying, but I think I disagree.

It just takes more time and resources. That's it!

I'm hoping one of the skulls unlocks the ability to use your MP custom spartans for Co-op. Red, blue, green and yellow differently suited spartans in co-op would look amazing and be easy to track your friends in a sea of other elites and brutes.

It would look like nextygen guantlet too. ^_^

My 360 timebomb better not blow, or there'll be hell to pay. :o

If the books tie in at all it there are still a few other spartans left, also there have been screenshots of other Mjolnir armour types and customisations published.

Also there were two cryogenic sleep chambers at the start of Halo.

Ther real answer tho is there are no more spartans in co-op because it fits the story.

Yeah, I was listening to the podcast last night and Frankie mentioned the number of screenshots that could be stored, so the function is definitely there.

The podcasts are actually quite fun, I enjoyed the one with Joseph Staten - they sound like they're having a good time with it all anyway.

The hype monster in me has now awoken, I'm so glad there's only 7 weeks or so to release.

I know all about the video mode in this, but has a photo mode been confirmed?

Yep, you can store 100 'things' on your 360 - those things including Custom Gametypes, Saved Videos and Saved Photos. So you can have 99 custom games, and 1 video, or you can just upload the photos and videos to Bungie.net and store them on your PC.
