So is no one else not bothered by the 4 player online co-op news then?

Personally I couldn't give a shit. I'll be buying the game for the single player and some offline multiplayer and that'll be it. Any version of Halo online is the least fun game ever imo, because unless you're amazing at it, it just isn't entertaining. I'd far rather keep my shitness at console fps games to myself rather than broadcast it by having to play campain mode with other people.

Spot the guy who's never played a coop game before!! Seriously, get some friends.

Yup. Sharpest poster on the forum me!

If it's true that Bungie claim to have the most fun in 4-player co-op then thats' going to be good enough for me. As for lag, never played them, but don't the GRAW games do 4 player co-op in the whole outdoor battle setting. Do they have a bad rep for lag?

Crackdown style cop-op in GTA IV's Liberty City! Oh God, I've just dribbled all over my desk!

Problem is, of course, is t'more stuff you've got mashing around (esp physics, particles, etc) the more you have to synch between the machines. Can get tricky...

Not if the physics are peripheral, like the ragdolls in Gears. I mean, it doesn't really matter if the debris from an explosion is all done client side only, does it?

If the physics are integral to the game, however (like in Half Life 2 DM) then things can get tricky.

The indications that the 4 players will be Master Chief, The Arbiter and 2 random elites, seems pretty solid evidence to me that the Campaign mode will be MC/Arbiter based with the extra 2 players tacked on very much like the first 2 Halo's were MC with extra spartan tacked on.

...nggggghhhhhgnn

...must ... have..... faith....

I've played plenty of co-op games before (though this concept of "friends" confuses me  ). I would just rather experience the story for myself, by myself; at least on the first play through.

I don't mind the inclusion of the co-op mode, what I should have said is that it doesn't appeal to me because it implies that the game is going to be very very difficult for a person playing alone.

GoW was a good game on single player campain until the later stages (which as puck said) when your AI buddy was so stupid it became pretty much essential to play it co-op, which in my opinion is very bad design.

I am quite optimistic that Bungie will get the AI right as it was a fairly strong point of the previous games, so perhaps it wont be an issue at all, but in my opinion if a single player game cannot be cleared by a single person then it's either very bad design or just stupidity on the part of the developers.

Christ this forum has some moaning miserable gits.

You can still as far as I am aware play the single player game on your own.

Personally I'm looking forwards to rolling up in a badass vehicle with 3 friends like the motherf**kin A-Team and SAVING THE UNIVERSE together.

FFS, now you've put the idea in my head, I won't be happy until someone makes a good 4 player co-op A-Team game.

In the last five or so minutes of the new Bungie Podcast, Frankie et al repeatedly state that they've had their best ever Halo experiences in four player co-op. Saved films are going to be so awesome for revisiting those special co-op moments again and again

It does open up a fantastic world of possibilities using the saved films and the screenshot-grabbing features. I'll be interested to know if the game changes with the number of people playing on co-op (an increase in enemies/changes in AI/etc.). I just want to be able to jump on board that huge tank thing with three other people and cause chaos.

Rocket launchers, explosions, Warthogs, bodies flying around - there's gonna be a fair bit in Halo I think.

Oh Dear Lord! I had totally forgotten that we'll all be able to relive the finest moments of our heroic exploits.

It doesn't really matter where bodies go after an explosion though, surely.

Unless you and your buddies want to make a pile of corpses to climb on and stuff....

EDIT: That made it sound like I'm the kind of person that has a load of photos in my flat with the eyes gouged out or something, It was meant to be light hearted but sounded a bit Fred West...

Absolutely fantastic news and I take back my earlier bitching about Bungie focusing on multiplayer and sidelining the campaign and co-op aspects. Mrs Delvian and I will be partaking in a goodly amount of co-op with my mate online - can't wait!!!

However, the whole co-op saga smacks of hype to me.

Bungie just a few weeks ago - "Ooo, not sure if we can manage 2 player live co-op, seeing as how ultra-massive and awesome the battles are and all..."

Now, suddenly - "Oh yeah, 4 player co-op live, no problem, fill yer boots guys..."

Hmmm...

But I'm over the moon with news. Preorder un-cancelled etc.

I don't believe it was hyped for a second. I think that there were possibly several factors in making co-op work and those factors weren't confirmed until recently. I don't think it really needs the extra hype, it's going to sell a huge amount of copies anyhoo.

Eh? That's so illogical I don't know where to start. Co-op is multiplayer, therefore time has been diverted from the single player campaign to get co-op online up and running.

Most people don't understand the problem of resources in production.

I wonder why Halo 2 had a good online multiplayer mode, but a bit of a crap single player experience?

I think it's a missed opportunity to allow you to play any character in co-op. Most people would want to be the Master Chief, not an Elite. Might get a bit confusing too if there are indeed fights vs Elites in the campaign.

'Sorry mate, didn't see you there' etc etc.

Or something.

But they'll have a clear symbol above their head if they're on your side.

The elites played as are wearing custom armour, so hopefully that'll solve that problem, plus I'm not sure it has been mentioned about fighting against the elites yet (although it would be disappointing if you didn't).

Assuming it's the same as most modern PC shooters, the vast majority of minor interactions are handled client side. Ie, you can be laughing at a funny ragdoll but it won't necessarily have fallen exactly the same on another players PC.
