I'm pretty sure Bungie have said you'll be fighting loyalist Elites in Halo 3, but that preview made it sound as if you won't. It's a shame if that's true; in fact, my anticipatometer has just dropped a couple of notches in light of the news.

They do say the Brutes are a much improved foe in Halo 3. Which had better be true, for your anticipatometer's sake.

i'm just a bit worried that they seem to have forgotten what made halo untouchable and are doing this for the gears crowd.

i'll reserve judgement until i actually play it, but i am a bit concerned now.

There was a Bungie preview that talked about, "taking a group of Elites by surprise", and they stated that they will still be a sigificant enemy - most people thought it would be only Brutes because of the ViDoc - Bungie clarified that the ViDoc only showed Brutes because it was ViDoc about Brutes.

It just appears they won't be in early levels.

Of course youll be fighting elites, the elites were fighting against each other in H2 so this wont be any different.

and I want to go into battle with hunters by my side again, I nearly did a wee in excitement last time :(

Hunters were really terrifying in Halo. In Halo 2 they had somehow lost their oomph!

What? They were pathetically easy in Halo; you just had to shoot them once in one of their massive weakspots. They were harder in Halo 2, in that they had that mad elbow-drop wrestling thing that stopped you running too close behind them. They were still probably the easiest enemies, though.

Sure, the weak spots kinda ruined the fun. But I'm talking more about their presence. They seemed heavier, more alienlike than Halo 2, more distant than what is going on. You could meat them in a derelict station or in an abandoned post. In Halo 2 were more like part of the action, breaking doors and stuff, lazers oozing around them..

If you get what I mean...

If there are going to be insanely epic battles with many opponents who have insanely good AI then the 4 player co-op stuff could be the best thing in the world ever.

4-player co-op. Rainbow 6, Xbox. IT'S BEEN DONE.

Anyway fair play to them. It was just about who got there first.

Let's just hope the single player campaign is good, and not a bag of crap like Halo 2 was. Eh. Eh.

Surely releasing a graphically updated Halo 1, with 4-player co-op (and more enemies) would make them a pile of cash. Re-use that old code FTW!

Actually, of course there will be baddie Elites in Halo 3. What am I even thinking? Bungie knows that everyone likes Elites, which is presumably why they introduced 'good' ones in Halo 2. They'd really be doing a Wachowski Brothers to ditch them as enemies.

It is slightly worrying that the main opponent seems to be the bullet-sponge Brutes. Bullet sponges suck.

How can a level be designed to accomodate both one and four players? I hope this doesn't mean vast empty spaces and pretty much unecessary vehicles for the solo campaign.

Maybe/hopefully there'll be levels where you spawn in different places, maybe MC and TA in one area and the two new Elites in another, and the two groups both have their own mid-level battle to contend with before both descending into another epic battle already going on to help out.

Short of 'puttin moar enermeez in' I can't think how they make the balance.

So is no one else not bothered by the 4 player online co-op news then?

Personally I couldn't give a shit. I'll be buying the game for the single player and some offline multiplayer and that'll be it. Any version of Halo online is the least fun game ever imo, because unless you're amazing at it, it just isn't entertaining. I'd far rather keep my shitness at console fps games to myself rather than broadcast it by having to play campain mode with other people.

But.. single-player campaign, with friends? As far as I'm concerned, that's great news. Has nothing to do with competetive stuff!

GoW co-op was immense - however, to the detriment to the single player game. The AI of your buddy was so bad that certain parts of the game became unnecessarily hard unless you did it on co-op. Thankfully, the co-op game was brilliant...

however...

GoW was designed like this from the outset. Halo campaign, up until now, has been about single player awesomeness - my *only* concern is that the game isn't as good a single player game it could be because level design etc has been based around 4 player co-op and not single player Master Chief Awesomeness.

Not really the same though is it.

Well noticed :(

Huge open spaces, loads of vehicles and tons of combatants. This is what I'm hoping for anyway.

Matter of time.

We'll see how they cope with lag! Interesting stuff.

Next up - GTA Co-op.

the only way I could get anywhere decent in Halo 2 was split screen co-op. The game bored me so much that I needed to be sitting with a mate to get me through it.

Bungie - hear my prayer - Please make Halo 3 single player campaign at least as awesome, if not more, than Halo CE.

The indications that the 4 players will be Master Chief, The Arbiter and 2 random elites, seems pretty solid evidence to me that the Campaign mode will be MC/Arbiter based with the extra 2 players tacked on very much like the first 2 Halo's were MC with extra spartan tacked on.

Online co-op is important for me because as much as I'd like to bundle all my friends into one room for some multiplayer it often can't happen because of other commitments. Put simply we're too busy. With 4-player online co-op it will also mean that I will avoid a fight between my friends about who plays through the story first with whom.

We all play it together first time everyone wins. That's what halo is about for me.. and its a lot of what I lost in the second game.. The first game was about enjoying the story and using it to get to grips with the multiplayer slowly in a relaxed environment.

Halo 2 was pretty much just a race to get online and cream each other as quickly as possible.

Yup. Sharpest poster on the forum me!

If it's true that Bungie claim to have the most fun in 4-player co-op then thats' going to be good enough for me. As for lag, never played them, but don't the GRAW games do 4 player co-op in the whole outdoor battle setting. Do they have a bad rep for lag?

Crackdown style cop-op in GTA IV's Liberty City! Oh God, I've just dribbled all over my desk!
