Did you catch the name of the guy who wrote it? We can safely ignore him in the future then.

I didn't I'm afraid.

So, Halo 1, with the good bits of Halo 2, but not the rubbish bits... could be good.

This is certainly what I'm hoping, or rather expecting to see, although I really ought to keep my expectations in check. I don't want a repeat of the disappointment from last time around.

I love the way the Halo 3 special edition console features everything in some way changed to be Halo 3 special edition but doesn't actually bundle a copy of Halo 3. It is literally funny. Maybe microsoft need to save cash for the eventual recalls.

Well I guess it's better doing it that way than having 3 different versions of the console, I'd be a bit annoyed if I had to pay another £50 for the LE version if only the standard one came with the console.

Not that I'm going to buy the console anyway, so meh.

Although...Alyx was awesome in Episode One...but I can't see the arbiter measuring up to her somehow.

This. Whether having a companion constantly by your side works with games other than the Ep. 1 example is open to discussion, but Valve proved that it can work, albeit with the right script, story, intelligence, common sense et al. I think it would be cool to have a similar narrative/play device in a Halo game, but I don't think the Arbiter would be the most interesting companion...

Christ, even if they just had Cortana as a human companion alongside you rather than a voice in your head...

Slightly OT but...

I know Xbox Live wasn't around when Halo was launched with the Xbox but it would have been so awesome if Cortana could speak to you through the headset rather than just through the TV. Just an extra slice of immersion, there aren't many things you could do to improve Halo but that would be one of the best additions I can think of.

I'm going to love the save film feature in single player and multiplayer. I remember in Halo but not so much Halo2 whereby I had crazy battle but probably could not recreate if I tried but had no way to save it.

I played through Halo on legendary probably around 5 times and there was always something new that I did not notice before. I remember so many different instances of people posting OMG I did not realise that could happen, for example I when a marine hopped into a ghost many people did not believe that it could happen as it was not something that happened all of the time. Hopefully there will be OMG moments in Halo3.

This is an amazingly good idea!

Not just for Halo but for loads of games.

Good job sir.

:(

As you may know, most of the Microsoft presentations were unable to shoot. Halo 3 was no exception, which explains why the only thing we can offer you is this weird experience: live the Halo 3 presentation with your ears, and stare at Frankie "sexy beast" O'Connor, litteraly hypnotized by his own game.

Needless to say, we are a _bit_ bitter about how this "no-filming" policy went by, as it basically destroyed our (=at gamersyde) E3 coverage, but I suppose it's better than anything... right ? Anyway, this "video" in interesting nevertheless, because the sound of Halo 3 is so good it makes your imagination work and figure all the pretty things we saw there. The demo starts as Master Chief and his squad progress in a tropical forest, and arrive at a sleepy Grunt camp...

Apparently, the video demo of Halo 3 is awesome, the game looks great, and the action is fantastic.

That's what they should have shown on stage. That piece of shit bodge-job trailer did more harm than good. Had they given Halo 3 the kind of treatment they gave Assassin's Creed and COD4, the response to the conference would have been very different.

The audio in that video seems a bit frantic, Halo (or Halo 2 for that matter) didn't really seem to have that much going on at once. The pace doesn't seem to let up for the entire duration of it either, maybe he's just playing on easy and blasting through everything, but Halo doesn't usually play how that audio seems to imply.

It sounds ace though, I'm probably reading too much into it.

[edit]

It is slightly worrying though, in the original the pace of the action was timed perfectly, most of the time giving you opportunity to just wander around taking in the landscape and listening to Marty's lovely music.

Oh man, just listening to this sound demo I really cannot wait to play the game. I love those Grunts :(

A video, of a guy playing a game, and no footage of the game? What?
Bizarre yes, but still interesting.

Sounds very very hectic, and there is a lot of chatter from team mates and enemies. Does sound good though (if you're a Halo geek) :(

This weeks Bungie update informs us that he was playing on Heroic and that the chatter in the final game won't be as continuous as in the version Frankie was playing.

Bungie seem to be really, weirdly super-protective of letting any footage of Halo 3 (or indeed any of the their games) out into the wild. I think it's part of their obsession with how brilliant they think their games' stories are - in the past, they've had fans speculating for years over tiny crumbs of information, and I think they're trying to manage that a little bit too much.

The thing is, I think this hurts their games in the long run. Bungie were obsessed with stopping people from finding out about the Arbiter in Halo 2, when in fact I reckon they should have let people know about it as far as possible in advance so that people could get used to it. As it was, several million people went "Uh? I'm not playing as the Chief? That fucking sucks!" and then sulked about it on the internet. The same thing happened with Metal Gear Solid 2 - what seems like a cool twist from the point of view of the developer can just seem like you're being given a different game to the one you wanted from the POV of the player.

I agree about the Arbiter, but I think Bungie do it for the fans, rather than just to prevent any info leaking out. They mention quite often that they're aware they have obsessive fans that carefully examine anything and everything released for easter eggs and/or things that could be of interest to the story. I remember them pointing out that they weren't surprised fans found hidden images in the announcement trailer by going through the entire video frame-by-frame, as something off the top of my head. If they threw out hundreds of screenshots and loads of video play-throughs that effect would be diluted and I think anticipation would be reduced overall.

Bungie have always been masters of reaching out and engaging with their fans, things like the Cortana letters and ilovebees are good examples.

Or maybe the game's just shit and they want to sneak it out unnoticed :(
