The main thing for me about Halo (CE) was that it was the Master Chief on his own taking on the covenant. Yeah, I know there were Marines involved but you were either rescuing them or seeing them get blown up a lot. I agree with Yawdib that having an AI character trailing you for the whole game would be a bit shit. And with this co-op speculation it doesn't sound as though he'll be getting sent off to deal with something while the MC goes about his own business. He could just get killed off like Poochy though.

While I'm making a leap of faith, you are making a leap of distrust that bungie aren't capable of doing this well. It won't just be a random AI loon, it'll be a proper, scripted existence that has purpose (in the bigger picture) in the game.

Eh? I imagine it'll be like playing alongside the marines in the first two games. You couldn't talk to them either, and that wasn't rubbish.

Errr... The marines weren't constantly around you. It was more like 10% of the game, if not less.

I loved having the marines around you in Halos 1 and 2, but the thing I loved most was how fragile they were. I really got a kick out of protecting them and seeing how far into the level they could make it.

Having some invincible bloke alongside you the whole time is not the same.

Imagine if, every time the Arbiter died, you had to restart the checkpoint :lol:

That would be awful!

The "help the marines" game you made was your own making, and was fun but had no disastrous outcome if you failed the poor men.

If you have to restart when Arbi died.... no. please no.

I heard from somewhere it will be less than the current retail...

You get a matching wireless headset with the Xbox, correct?

There's definately a Halo 3 headset in the works, but I haven't seen confirmation that it comes with the console. Seems like the obvious thing to do though. As for pricing, I don't see why MS would make it cheaper when they know that Halo fans such as myself would pay anything to get hold of one.

I think I read somewhere that the H3 headset is included with the console, it also comes with a play & charge kit.

The other difference is that it has an HDMI port on the back like the Elite, but the Halo 3 console only comes with the standard 20GB hard drive. I think the price was going to be in the middle of the other two SKUs, at about £299 from what I remember.

There's a report on GameSpot covering the latest gameplay trailer, which unfortunately seems to have been edited since it was first posted. The original story was clearly written by someone who hadn't played much of Halo 2 as he mentioned three exciting, never-before-seen bits of information:

"A new bug-like enemy" - Er...the Covenant drones?

"A mysterious gun-wielding female soldier" - Miranda Keyes says hello.

And I can't remember the exact wording, but it was something like "A massive, four-legged Covenant ground weapon, similar to the scarab in Halo 2" - So...a scarab then.

It still states two of those things.

Most of the remainder of the trailer revolved around quick flashes of gameplay and in-game cinematics that sometimes flew by too quickly to really see what was transpiring. Amidst the new scenes of gunplay, including action from the new miniguns and a buglike enemy that was capable of lifting Master Chief off the ground, we did manage to spot what appeared to be Cortana collapsing over, apparently in pain, as well as a mysterious akimbo gun-wielding female soldier attempting to defend herself from numerous enemies.
