A brief look at campaign from 1UP.com:

The campaign walkthrough starts in the lush jungle of new location Sierra 117, and shows the Master Chief fighting as part of a larger military unit that includes a squad of Marines, along with the Arbiter, the disenfranchised Covenant holy warrior from Halo 2. (Note: Bungie kinda sorta hinted that you can play as the Arbiter in two-player co-op.) After fighting through wave after wave of Brutes, Grunts, and Jackals, we end the demo with a huge set piece where the jungle environment gives way to a large flowing river, and Covenant troops are attacking a Pelican dropship as it tries to deliver fresh troops to the battle. Overwhelmed by enemy fire, and despite the Master Chief's best efforts to pick off the Covenant aggressors with a minigun turret, the ship fails to pull away and falls from the sky in a spectacular display of the game's physics system and new graphical engine.

The Marines feel like a more cohesive unit now and much less like cannon fodder. They don't just wander into battle and get immediately mowed down, plus they're constantly shouting feedback about the battle as it ensues. "Go back to planet jackass, jackass," was a particular favorite. Similarly, the Covenant are very vocal too, and as the firefights erupt you can hear them shouting abuse, while cursing the "invincible demon" (that would be you).

The lighting is really beautiful. The jungle is convincingly dark and oppressive, and the shadows cast by the foliage are remarkably realistic. It's particularly effective when the jungle cover breaks, and the whole feel of the environment changes as it's saturated in sunlight.

Frame-rate was dodgy and the animation when that jumbo mothercrusher stabs the marine, near the start, was awful!

However, it's gonna be a ton of fun and I hope there's online co-op.

Also, it was a bit sad near the end as this is (in theory) supposed to be the last proper adventure of the Chiefmiester, right?

Apparently it's the last in this storyline...but not the last Halo FPS game.

The game looks ace, but the music in the trailer was pretty insipid. The piano bit at the end was great, but the rest of it was a bit thin.

Having said that, I'm criticising a trailer for a videogame based on the music, so I'll just go off and hit myself in the face with a brick for a bit.

The trailer - amazing.

I really am surprised by the lack of interest or praise. It seemed as if some of you watched a different trailer to me. I was left both impressed and excited.

Even on just one point, the part where it appears you can now personally take down a Scarab (rather than it being a cutscene as in Halo 2, which was a let-down) I'm very much looking forward to seeing more.

And that's leaving aside everything else....

The thing with that trailer was, for me, that it looked so badly edited and put together - like a YouTube fan video with the odd flash of action occasionally in time with the music.

I was really hoping for a run through and some new information. I mean, the game is out in, what - 10 weeks?

Having watched the trailer quite a few times now, it's really grown on me. It didn't help that when I first saw it via a live feed, the music was barely audible and I assumed that the footage was a mix of both campaign and multiplayer. There's all sorts of little things hidden away in there, like the inclusion of some civilians in the factory/warehouse and the slightly skewed halo ring viewed from the pelican, complete with some gigantic structures jutting out from the surface. It almost looks like one of the rings has merged with the surface of the earth.

It's great to finally see some longsword fighters flying around overhead as I've been waiting for that ever since they appeared in the E3 '03 demo. And I'm very glad they redesigned the scarab, or at least re-coloured it. It looks much more 'covenant' now rather than the design reject it used to be. Hopefully it's more of an enemy in it's own right like the wraiths, instead of being a scripted boss battle.

And I love the low key ending.
