Unless they are like the GoW achievements which all emphasis the player over the team such that teamwork goes completely out of the window.

Wouldn't matter so much in Halo with matchmaking though. My team would be playing as a team, the opposition can do their own thing and lose if they really want to.

And I find the Mongoose almost totally useless. It is good to shuttle a guy or two to some decent weapons or whatever, but you\\\'re so vulnerable on it, it seems foolish to take it near the enemy. It will never match the hog in the DARING ESCAPE stakes.

That's er, the idea.

Getting from A to B. Getting the Flag home.

Also, going full throttle on a rickety little Mongoose across Valhalla with someone on the back with explosions going off all around you is hella more fun in the daring escape stakes.

What do you expect from it? I was puzzled. I don't complain I don't like the wraith because it can't fly like a banshee.

The warthog is pretty difficult to take out yeah, I agree actually. I've had loads of kills as the gunner. In Halo 2 I'd get sniped off the top instantly. There are loads of ways to take it down though, I think things will balance out.

I think maybe I have just never seen it used well, then, because to me it currently feels superfluous. If it were taken out, then what? High Ground? Almost no difference to 95% of the matches. Valhalla? Well, almost every time I\'ve seen someone get on the Mongoose they\'ve been merked due to the fact they\'re such an open target travelling in a near-perfectly straight line. It would just mean people took slightly longer to get to the centre/other base. Which isn\'t necessarily a bad point.

It\'s just that the cons for me outweigh the pros, and consequently I don\'t see what it adds to the game. It\'s different, not better.

I agree a bit. I like them but I just didn't see them used very effectively. Might change once we get used to what they can offer over the warthog. they didn't seem that much faster.... i only used them for a laugh

I found that lock on third person rocket launcher absolutely lethal against a warthog

Did you ever play objective games on Coagulation? Or Containment? Or Waterworks? Getting from base to base on foot was incredibly tedious. Mongooses on those levels would have made things so much more enjoyable.

I had 30 kills and went from a death and suicide at the start to maybe 2nd?

All I did was throw grenades pretty much, of all varieties. I had 5 double kills.

Hah, in your game last night I was leading at one point - only to come in last place with 8 points or something.

I WANT HALO 3 BACK

So basically, because you haven\'t used it without getting killed, it\'s shit and pointless?

Not quite, no. The fact that I\'ve never seen it put to any good effect makes me think it\'s shit and pointless.

Why would you travel in a \'near perfectly straight line?\'

I was merely comparing the manouevrability of a Spartan to that of a Mongoose. It is clearly easier to avoid a sniper or laser on foot than it is on a mongoose.

I just feel that a moderately organised team can near-totally negate the need for them. As for what I\'d suggest? Well, if there were maybe some form of shielding around the driver or something it would be more useful, but thats all I can think of without getting to the point where I would actually prefer a Ghost, like on Coag last time around.

You can at least see where I\'m coming from on this, right?

I like the Mongoose. There's always one available when the Warthog isn't there, and I prefer zipping over to their base quickly rather than trying to walk across it.

I think they can be useful, especially in CTF games.

Yeah, BTB was or is my playlist of choice. I absolutely love the big maps. Out of those three, though, Containment was the only one that truly pissed me off when I died near the opp. base and had to trudge back. It was a 40 second trek, IIRC, which is fucking annoying, but I think it was a stupidly big map anyway. I don\'t think having a mongoose would have solved anything per se, just made it less of an issue.

weve had literally dozens of flag captures using the mongoose. It certainly has its uses.

I'll give you the laser, but do you seriously think it's easier to avoid a sniper on foot than in a moving vehicle?

I think the moral of this story is that you need to find teammates who don't always drive in a near perfectly straight line.

So you agree with I'm saying? Excellent.

Pretty annoyed I didn't get to play this as much as I'd have liked.

However, I was getting a tad bored of the 3 maps. I say 3, actually it was more like 2 - I think I got to play the Snowbound level once in about 55 games I played.

Gah, I didn\'t literally mean every time I\'ve seen someone drive the Mongoose they drive without steering!

I meant that in the time it takes to zoom in on someone and pull the trigger, someone on foot could have darted back and forth, whereas someone in a vehicle would follow a far-more predictable trajectory. Perhaps I\'m a shit sniper (distinct probability) but that\'s my take.

Public opionion is clearly against me here, so I\'ll tell you what: the first game I play of Halo 3, I\'ll practice in the Mongoose. Howzaboutha-ey?

Man alive, I aint half hit a hornets nest with this one. I think it would be best for everyone if I kept my Mongoose views to myself in the future. :P

If you were saying sensible things, then your opinion would have probably been noted and then ignored. When you start saying stuff like it's easier to dodge a sniper on foot than in a vehicle, well that's just crazy talk.

The only problem I have with the Mongoose is that it's so unpredictable when trying to splatter someone, sometimes it'll knock them dead to the ground, other times they'll just bounce off.

Apart from that it's a fantastic addition, It's great that it respawns so quickly too, there always seems to be one there when you need it on Valhalla.

Straps is right, the Mongoose whilst being good fun to drive is too much of a target, weak armour and no means of attack unless you have a passenger, whose aim will be reduced when on the Mongoose due to the speed.

However, I do use it despite this disadvantages because it does have its benefits (rushing for weapons, getting back to base quickly) and it has actually won my team a few Multi Flag games by just rushing the base, it works quite often. I actually play with Straps online, and I have a good few videos saved showing a game where we were losing 1-0 and came back to win 2-1, with the reason being because the mongoose was used so effectively.

Also it is easier to dodge the sniper or spartan laser on foot, for a start you can shoot them back, getting rid of their zoom function, and have jumping as an option as well as more movement options (180 degree turn in a Mongoose slows you down, then needs accelerating, when on foot, you just walk backwards with a very brief pause). Whenever I see a lone Mongoose, I equate it with a free kill.

So yeah, Straps is right in that it usually is a death trap and is often just used by idiots, but in the hands of a competent player it can be pretty effective, result altering even.

That's a load of nonsense. They're open targets because they're driving in a straight line, not because they're on the 'goose. On one game on Valhalla, I had a passenger on my Mongoose, and we were followed by a Banshee for about 2 minutes trying it's best to kill us. Then someone with a laser tried to help him and kept missing (thanks to my awesome driving) and the missile pod wasn't able to hit me either. After about 4 minutes in total I got off the mongoose after being relatively unscathed.

The mongoose has also won my team many CTF games and helped to prevent the other team getting a flag capture by beating their warthog to the base.

It's a great addition as long as it is used properly.

eh? i find it impossible to take down anyone with the warthog now, nevermind the goose.

what's the deal with that then?

Snowbound was a shit map - I just hated it. If a team got the laser and sniper, it's all over.

The invisibility - what's the point? You can still be seen and sniped just as easily, I think you need to be a bit more 'invisible' to be honest.

Some of the game types Bungie have invented are also wank - tankball? WTF. What moron thought that would be fun. Team Slayer on Valhalla is my idea of fun.
