I only played it for the first two days! I'm more pumped for the single player campaign mode.

Far too many better games out there to play.

Hardly any for those that like a good shooter though. 3 Maps of Halo 3 is a better online game than any other console shooter.

Just finished my last game :( I could have stayed on later but you know how it goes you can't go to bed on a 'lose'. As it is I finished a game of team slayer after half the team had quit the other team also lost a man so it was 2 on 3 pretty good odds if you work together and boy did we work hard - not bad for a random with no head set either great team play working like a proper team and a psychic one at that  probably one of the most enjoyable games I've had so far which ended in a win by one point. It's not like the other team made it easy either!

Time for bed :(

Cheers

Yeah, good games last night. Glad I finally got some customs going. Sticktacular turned out to be a little . . . divisive but I really enjoyed it. It's basically Noshi with stickies. What's not to like?

An incredible amount of options available in the custom menu. I really don't think the game will ship like that though, will it? It might offer more scope to people who know what they're doing, but it's actually a good bit easier to make a really duff gametype. I hope it's something approaching it though. Three and a half months to go!

For a game that is supposed to emphasise stickies, not many people were bothering with them. Panda who came top only got one sticky and you were somewhere in the middle with only 3.

Aw man, I was just getting into that.

Oh well, very, very impressed with what they\'ve done with it to be honest. It\'s basically smoothed out the rough edges and spikes of Halo 2 and added to it, and we\'ve been left with a better game. Which is high praise, considering I was still having fun with Halo 2 up until three weeks ago. And aside from the obvious bugs (I thought this was just going to be a demo in all but name, but you can tell it\'s an early build), there aren\'t any gameplay things that are \'broken\'. Perhaps a year down the line when people are exploiting a fucking horrid weapon imbalance I might be speaking differently, but for now the weapon set seems spot-on. I\'m a cack-handed twat at close range so I prefer having a BR on me at all times (though DW definitely has its place, especially on High Ground), and fights with them or the Carbine feel much fairer now. Where before when you\'d start getting shot, 95% of the time you\'d end up dead. First-shot still counts for a lot, obviously, but you can turn it around with a bit of strafing.

Actually, just thinking, the only problems I can see are the single Ghost on Snowbound (just why?) and that Warthogs are, IMO, too powerful. I know they\'ve given us more ways to take one down, but frankly, when even the laser sometimes doesn\'t kill anyone and stickies are almost totally useless against it, there\'s something wrong.

The additions are pretty decent too, though I don\'t especially like the power drainer. Oh, the Mongoose is wank though.

There are matchmaking issues, but I\'m giving them the benefit of the doubt and putting it down to lack of players more than bad design, although it was near impossible to get a ranked game with mixed-rank party.

I think it needs a few games to get the tactics nailed. I went from -5 to 29 in a very short space of time when I started getting the stickies right (and it was 4 actually  ). The slow fire rate of the pistol adds to it as well, it's great for practising clear-headedness in the heat of battle, and those all important head shots.

Ur doin' it wrong.

The power drainer and the Plasma pistol can take out warthogs, as can missile pods, trip mines, lasers and rocket launchers. I've stickied the warthog loads of times, as well as got grenades underneath which send it flying.

The mongoose is great, I don't understand how you could think it "wank". What does it do wrong exactly?

I had 30 kills and went from a death and suicide at the start to maybe 2nd?

All I did was throw grenades pretty much, of all varieties. I had 5 double kills.

Stiff, like I said I know there are more ways to take the hog, naturally, but if you catch people off-guard with it then you\\\'ve got a good few guaranteed kills for the gunner. Frankly, if you drive past the pelican when there are enemies there and one of your team doesn\\\'t have the power drainer, then you\\\'re asking for trouble. Plus you\\\'ve got the lock-on warning which means you just need to pop behind some cover (like the peak in the Valhalla centre). Plasma pistol or mines are indeed the most common ways I\\\'ve seen a Hog stopped (other than the laser), but again, you need to pretty good with the PP to take it down from a decent range (a range a warthog driver shouldn\\\'t be going into, tbh). Basically, if the driver and gunner have their wits about them then they are seriously hard to take down.

And I find the Mongoose almost totally useless. It is good to shuttle a guy or two to some decent weapons or whatever, but you\\\'re so vulnerable on it, it seems foolish to take it near the enemy. It will never match the hog in the DARING ESCAPE stakes.

From bungie.net:

Achievements and other, yet-to-be-revealed activities, options and features are going to make Campaign in Halo 3 have much more replay value than ever before. This is vital for folks who don't have Live (yep, there's a few out there) and a great boon to folks who just don't like multiplayer.

Reads to me like no achievements in multiplayer then.

I'm glad the beta is over - only had it for around a week but even after a handful of games the three maps became tiresome. I didn't want to learn the intricacies of the game through a beta (how tedious) but the changes made seem mostly for the better. Remapped controls and deployables being the best changes.

The fixes I'd like to see is a stronger melee and to bump the framerate upto a solid 60. I'm sure Bungie won't let me down

It was fun. I only got a 360 towards the end of the Beta so I didn't play too much, but I'm very positive about how the game is going to turn out now.

The weapon balance seems pretty spot on already, with the possible exception of the nerfed melee. All the new weapons add something too. The AR start is certainly an improvement, and means that BR starts won't be necessitated on certain maps like they were for 2. I'm happy to have less dual wielding.

I really like the deployables. Was a bit sceptical at first, but they're all useful in certain situations and add extra tactics without diluting the gameplay or becoming too dominant.

Best of all was the quality of the maps. If that standard is kept up for the full range on release, and providing they include Lockout, I'll be very happy.

Oh, and fuck people who don't like multiplayer, all the achievements should be online stuff.

No, you bugger off!

The Multiplayer is brillant but if the Co-Op and Single player is as refined as the first then I'll be playing Halo 3 for years.

Unless they are like the GoW achievements which all emphasis the player over the team such that teamwork goes completely out of the window.
