Well living in Aus I seem to be the only person who has yellow bars during games so I'm always trying to pre-empt melee - works 50% of the time.

But the delay gets me killed a lot

I don't think where you live makes a difference. The bars reflect bandwidth, not latency, unless I'm mistaken.

Nah, MP's right. I've been in BTB games, full green bars, but absolutely horrid latency.

Well, the same bars didn't have anything to do with latency in 2, and what I have played of the Beta would suggest that hasn't changed.

yeah poet i had the same thing at Craigs place in meroubra. Doesnt matter how strong a connection you have, its simple latency that causes the problem.

Yeah, I'm running exactly the same. Based on my distance from the exchange, I've effectively got a download speed of around 15,000 kbps. Yet I'll still get the occasional yellow bar when playing people from overseas. Unless it's the upload speed, which runs between 800 & 1000 kbps.

I agree. Most definately to do with our geographical location (isolation) in relation to the rest of the world.

You're in Australia aren't you? Your problem is the same as mine, we're just far away. Speed of the road having nothing to do with the number of lanes, and all that jazz.

Find someone else playing a custom game, join them, then drop out into a custom lobby.

I don't actually know anyone who's managed to "follow a guide".

Look in a Halo 3 thread on xbox.com forums where people are on about playing customs etc. Fortunately, it shows their gamercard to the left of the post. Send a friend request to them, then click on the request, go to view profile and see what they are playing - if it's a Halo 3 Custom, join and quit.

Also, look through your recent players for anyone in customs. Just join and quit.

Hopefully this is just because it's a "beta" but if it's not as silky smooth as Halo 2 I'll be dissapointed.

The framerate has been perfect for me and I thought my Xbox had been showing signs of death over the last few weeks, with this and your over-exaggeration of the lag (going on what I've seen) I'm beginning to think your version of the beta must have aids.

I've had that a couple of times, but I don't think it's because there's too much going on to render at the proper framerate, it just seems like a glitch that randomly occurs straight after dying, for me anyway. It's only happened about twice in the hundreds of games I've had though.
