As a BR/Carbine whore, I'd say the Carbine is more powerful in H3 - as an offset it seems that it takes a moment for the aim reticule to settle when you zoom in (I'm assuming based on the reticule animation). On balance I think you're right, the Carbine seems a better option than the BR in H3. The reverse was true in H2 but it's all pretty marginal - I have no problem taking folk down with the BR.

Edit: just to agree with Chaz - no more than 4 headshots are required for a BR kill.

I thought it was five shots now? If not, I guess I miss the sticky aim more than I thought. :(

In any case the Carbine/BR seem to be pretty evenly matched now. Personally I find the BR better for long/long-mid distances, and Carbine better for short-mid, as you can train a bead easier with the BR zoom, but the higher-rate of fire for the Carbine is better for short, jumpy aiming.

I think his anger probably stems from the fact he seems to like using dual-SMGs a lot. Not exactly the best strategy.

The videos are almost certainly not real though, or they're vastly exaggerated for the camera anyway.

I dont think anyone could act as well as that. He is definitely wound up to the motherfucking max. Why a camera is there Im not sure, maybe its hidden or he didnt know it was on.

Well, he dual weilds a lot, but you have to remember, these videos came before the first major update, I think - when melee-ing did absolutely nothing and grenades were shit. Everyone just fucking dual weilded the whole time before V1.2 was released.

I love it when high-ranking Slayer-heads come play skirmish games and think they're automatically going to win. Last night we beat two Colonels Grade 1, a Commander Grade 1, and a Captain (the first two had just under 500RP...) at one bomb. Felt really good, actually.

Only five days to go now. ;)

I think that for all their high rank, most of these idiots don't play well as a team.

Atarian and I played a VIP team training game on Valhalla against some level 37 guy and some other high-ranking people, and beat them quite easily. In total they racked up far more kills, but they seemed to be missing the point about trying to kill our VIP. Their VIP was usually found by himself either back at their base or milling around the Spartan Laser spawn point.

Melee's are fucking shit in Halo 3. That is all.

because they've removed the lunge? I think it's a good call and the shotty/melee combo is still as tasty as ever. They had to really as the distance covered in 2 was a bit much, especially with the sword.

I was thinking this myself last night. I might change my control setup back to normal from green thumb as I have use for the quick zoom far more than the quick melee in Halo 3. I think it's a good thing for the game though.

I'm noticing that if I throw a sticky or grenade that thanks to sucky lag I keep getting suicides.

Also If I play one more game where 2 or 3 people pull out because we are down 5 - 0 at the start I'm gonna go nuts!

Has anyone else found that the reconnection logic after the host drops out is iffy? I think there's a problem where if someone other than me is hosting the match and they drop out, if it then selects me to become the new host it plops me back into the match but everyone else is still in the waiting lobby and I can just munge around killing everyone.

Anyone else seen this?

Ai, seen it a few times. Hopefully its a bug which they now know about and can address for the retail version.

Bugs I'm noticing:

Getting stickies when i've not even thrown a grenade. Or if I have, I know for a fact the grenade missed.

Ranking on your name not being updated: (I went down from a 29 to a 27, 2 days ago and it still says "HIGHEST RANKING: 29" next to my name.

On the post-match report, if you click on someone's name to view their medals, it says you can press "RB or LB" to scroll up/down to the next player on the list. This doesnt' work, it just randomly scrolls through any player which is REALLY annoying if you only want to look at people's medals on your team.

Do you mean they're too powerful or that they're useless now?

I got the impression you meant the latter but for me they're a lot more effective than I remember them being in Halo 2. The only problem with them is that when playing against the Americans they get up to about 200ms longer than you to hit the button and beat you down. You can often hear your melee connect with someone that has no shield, right before you drop dead and they just walk off.

Overall I think it's better that they're so powerful now, but that might only be because we sometimes get the host thanks to tyler's connection. Getting consistantly matched with American hosts could make it slightly annoying.

Read what you have written again, then tell me why that's a bug.

I always thought (until I read his quote) that the highest ranking number would be the highest you ever acheieved, but thinking about it, it's probably supposed to inform you/others of your current highest rank as that is used to calculate your class along with your reputation points.

That's exactly what it should be isn't it: Best ever rank reached?

I'd much rather the highest achieved ranking number - spot the delevelling sods...

Is there a way (like holding back on halo 2) in which you check who has host ?- or are you going by the fact the game seems better your end?

Yep, the latter. It's the lack of any lunge thats broken it for me. It doesn't need to be like Halo 2 but there does need to be some sort of forward motion. Standing millimeters from an enemy and hitting melee and it having no effect is comedic, and wrong.

The only problem with them is that when playing against the Americans they get up to about 200ms longer than you to hit the button and beat you down. You can often hear your melee connect with someone that has no shield, right before you drop dead and they just walk off.

This too. The melee is like the Shotgun from Halo 2 - broken for us, overpowered for Americans. Classic scenario is two players fighting with close range weapons. You get the jump on the other player so you're already shooting first, shield pops, both head straight on towards each other for the killer blow, and you always die.

It wasn't such a bad problem in Halo 2 with the shotgun because whenever you saw somebody with it you just kept your distance at all costs. With melee it's different. I've stopped bothering engaging in close range combat and thus it's cutting out a massive portion of my game.

Melee to head hasn't been knocking people out in one either.

Melee is a defining feature of Halo. It needs sorting out.
