Found it:

A Halo modding community has accidentally made various hidden game files public, found by retrieving hidden data in the Halo 3 Beta code.

Before we go any further, a warning: the following are in no way official or confirmed features of Halo 3.

* New equipment: Instacover ; Smoke (suggested this might be a smoke grenade?) ; Jammer

* New vehicles: Chopper ; Pelican ; Shadow

* New weapons: Flamethrower ; Claymore Grenade

* New mode: Infection (described as "Destroy the Flood or become infected. Score points for killing flood or big points for infecting a human. The player with the most points wins."

* New rankings: The highest rankings are now Killpocalypse and Killionaire, instead of Double Kill and Triple Kill.

* A reference to a map editor has also been found, a returning feature from Halo 2.

I just can't see the Pelican working in MP, unless you had multiplayer maps that were like twice the size of say, the island in The Silent Cartographer, with two islands and you can fly between them or something. That just seems shit though.

I don't think the references to a map editor mean anything.

[edit]

Ah, a bike! That could be interesting.

I really doubt the Pelican or Shadow (the Covie version) will be multiplayer vehicles. Remember they also got the single player level names as well, so it's probably just the name of the vehicles that will turn up (and probably not be driveable) in the campaign.

I have in the past stated that the ambition of the game needed to be ramped up for Halo 3, by letting us pilot such vehicles - Pelicans, Shadows, Scarabs, etc - further and higher than the other games had even touched on. That would be nice, but maybe that would be too much of a departure for the series. Perhaps one for Bungie's next game, their next non-Halo game that is.

I still remember when I got the highest multi-kill medal on Halo 2 about 10 times in a row when playing a game of noshi oddball on Foundation. Killamanjaro I think it was called, for killing something like 7 people within 4 seconds of eachother. It was awesome.

I think that was the only time I ever managed it though ;)

One glorious time playing one-flag CTF on Headlong, defending, I grabbed the Ghost and sped off to the left past the cloak into the enemy base, to find them all standing in the room next to the bridge having some kind of strategy discussion. I head two cries of SHIT before I'd boosted into them and killed the lot, about ten seconds into the match. There was plenty of time to zip around the back, destroy the Warthogs and grab the rocket launcher. Did I receive a single friend request for my trouble? I did not.

If you'd been playing on a 360 at the time, you would have probably been given "Unsporting conduct" feedback by the entire team. If you've been playing the beta a lot, check out your rep. Chances are it's taken a bit of a battering from sore losers.

I got a text message from an opposing player after a game of Shotty Snipers on Valhalla saying "U fuckin suck". I was bemused by this considering my team had won and that particular guy had killed less people than me (though our kill/death spread was the same). Then I received a second message saying "U shot me through a fuckin rock!", which put the earlier message in context. Wtf? Hate the game, not the player.

Why the fuck would you huddle in a group to chat? Only Americans!!

That was my interpretation, you understand, as I couldn't tell if they were actually chatting. But they were certainly standing in a group - maybe they had a brilliant plan and were waiting for someone to say "GO!", I don't know. The whole lot of them, not even anyone sent off to get the rockets.

It was fairly unsporting, so I wouldn't really be able to complain. Well worth it, though. I was playing shotty snipers yesterday on Valhalla and I spawed after my first death in an excellent location up in the rocks. I didn't win, but I came second, took out everyone I saw and never got bothered once, even though my sniper trail must have been a dead giveaway. I probably got some negative feedback from that, sniping in a snipers match. Toward the end I spotted a trail from someone on my far right, also in the rocks as far as I could tell, and he was the guy in the lead. So between us both I reckon we had the whole map covered and all the other chumps were just fodder - as I would have been if I hadn't had a lucky spawn.

So what's a high level in this, then? Saw a Commander Grade 2 with 350RP, not sure what his matchmaking ranks was.

Also, what's the weapon-spawn timer on Valhalla? Seems to be just under 2 minutes, but anyone know? Is it the same for all (power) weapons on Valhalla and is it map-dependant?

The single-player level names have been revealed? Really? What are they?

No way are those real. "Fuck you, go fist yourself faggot" made me laugh though.

Oh no, they are definitely real! the guy is a legend. I love it when he screams at his mate down the phone to tell him to fuck off ^_^

also I dunno if it was just because of the camera, but his TV image looked fucked, probably due to how much he had kicked and punched it.

Actually, you're thinking of the Phatom. The Shadow is slightly like a Covenant version of the Warthog, except bigger and able to carry more passengers:

I reckon it's highly possible it will be a driveable vehicle in Halo 3, at least in single player. I never understood why not, i'm almost 100% sure it was going to be in Halo 2, they just ran out of time to program it, since (a) you can get in the turret on Single Player but not the driver's seat. What's the point in that? And (B), it's in the manual, along with all the other driveable vehicles (the Pelican, Phantom etc aren't in the manual). Implying that you can drive it. I'm guessing they found it hard to get the physics/handling right for it, like the failed attempt to put the Mongoose in Halo 2. If you play single player, the way they drive does seem a little strange, so i'm guessing they didn't really know how to go about making it driveable so just left it out.

rekon there's any chance of a few Forerunner vehicles? I hope there's a ton of shit they'll keep secret.

I really want to stay well away from any campaign info for this one, in fact, I hope they don't release any info at all so i'm not tempted.

I have a serious urge to get as many people as possible lined up and use the spartan laser on them. What medal would you get for 15 people at once?

I'd prefer assymetrical vehicles. I hated the Spectre for being a Warthog Clone, and the same for Covenant Carbine and Beam Rifle. The Brutes Spikers are pretty much SMGs as well. I want more weapons with interesting effects, like the Plasma Pistol or Needler. I want some better Forerunner Weapons too.

Oh, they're far more powerful. Absolutely deadly when dual-weilding.

I think he meant more the design/functionality.

And I agree about the vehicles/weapons being carbon copies, there's no point. I can forgive the Carbine slightly because it has advantages of firing single shots, so had its uses. Had too little ammo by default though.

The spectre was fucking awful though, what were they thinking? They obviously knew it was shit though, i've only ever seen it in Covenant Slayer on Zanzibar in Matchmaking, and even that was a short-lived, universally hated, crock of shit gametype.

I'm using the Carbine so much more than the Battle Rifle. I have no idea how anyone gets on with the BR, it takes far too long to kill anyone with its weedy 3-shot bursts. Anyone with a decent weapon can take your head off in double-quick time.

What am I doing wrong? ^_^

Are you talking Halo 2 or 3 here? I don't have a 360 but I have played the Beta, and they seem to have played up the Carbine a lot more than in Halo 2, there's shitloads of them lying around on Highground, for example. Also apparently it's better than the BR in H3, whereas they were pretty evenly matched in Halo 2.

I don't know about why you can't kill people with BR though, perhaps you don't aim for the head all the time/keep your cursor pointed at the player during the bursts? 3-4 BR bursts to the head should be a kill if you're accurate enough.

As a BR/Carbine whore, I'd say the Carbine is more powerful in H3 - as an offset it seems that it takes a moment for the aim reticule to settle when you zoom in (I'm assuming based on the reticule animation). On balance I think you're right, the Carbine seems a better option than the BR in H3. The reverse was true in H2 but it's all pretty marginal - I have no problem taking folk down with the BR.

Edit: just to agree with Chaz - no more than 4 headshots are required for a BR kill.
