First time I ever played custom, and it was great fun. Like I said, some of the gametypes you guys had made were much more fun to play than the ones from Bungie. Mad Dash 2 was hilarious.

got round to playing a few custom games last night.

We experimented and got round to play quick jugs!!!! (think that's it's name). That was a good laugh, the speed was crazy. But the novelty wore off quick enough.

That gametype, sticktackular sounds good. consider it nicked!

the wraiths are absolute monsters now, especially since a boarder can be shot off.

But the power drainer has fast become my favourite equipment option. I finally bagged my first warthog with it and it was oh so sweet. especially since those things, with a gunner, are lethal now.

Up to rank 3 now in rumble pit, and it's much more difficult to win games than at 1, as you'd expect. Can you go down in ranks? I think you should be able to, it'll make the rankings more accurate.

I think you must have had a bad run of games against skillful people who haven't ranked up yet.

Wait, hold on, you've played 5 rumble pit games. FIVE. You can't really expect to have a balanced view of the skill level spectrum after 5 matches in a 3 week beta.

Wow, Bungie's stats page is unbelievably comprehensive - I've never looked at it before now!* 44 games on Halo 3 so far. A few wins here and there, but I was doing rubbish last night. I think my skill level has reached its 'true' value (a rather pathetic 11), as I couldn't seem to win any more games against similarly-ranked opponents. It's 'improve or die' from here on.

*Haha, 9 games of Halo 2 online, ever. It seemed like more, but I used to play it over LAN quite a lot instead.

Annoyingly, even though I saved the film on my tag (and my girlfriend didn't save it), it saved it as a split screen so it's rubbish.

I still remember when I got the highest multi-kill medal on Halo 2 about 10 times in a row when playing a game of noshi oddball on Foundation. Killamanjaro I think it was called, for killing something like 7 people within 4 seconds of eachother. It was awesome.

I think that was the only time I ever managed it though

It was, yes. 3 with a Carbine but then I needed to reload so I swapped to my 2nd gun (which happened to be a Plasma Rifle ) and ran at the Juggernaut with it firing wildly then giving him a smack.

edit - and the crossed out smiley face is a 'kill joy' - ending someone's killing spree.

What about if the jackal hand held shield was available as a defence against being lasered whereby the laser could be deflected back against the laserer if they were reasonably square on to each other. Also when the shield is equiped it would be visible to other players so they would have a clear indication as to what weapon to use. Plasma/alien weapons would eventually collapse the shield as in the campaign modes. If the shield is being carried by someone but not actually equiped then it would take a second or two to deploy it so we wouldn't have people being able to use it instantously. Also it could provide instant kill melee ability. You would obviously be vulnerable to the side and rear and perhaps it would have a battery life like the plasma sword. Crap idea ?

Sounds nice. The shield would have to slow people down too, like the big guns do.

In the latest edition of Gamepro, you'll find some juicy information about HALO 3. They reveal the never before seen vehicles, maps, weapons, and armor in HALO 3. Yes, armor. HALO 3 will now allow you to equip your characters will tricked out helmets, shoulderpads, and more. Here are a few screen captures, but you really should check out the magazine:

The helmets in the first couple of pictures remind me of the SPI armour from the fourth Halo book, Ghost of Onyx, used by the Spartan III recruits, which were basically Master Chief lites. Not as as strong as the Spartan II's and designed for suicide missions with no chance of survival, compared to the Spartan II's whichwere meant to be all-conquering super-soldiers.

Makes me wonder about the single player campaign.
