Well, if you are consistently on a red bar when everyone else is on green then it's your connection that's the problem.

Ah you see I'm not.

Only tonight for some reason.

Have been playing the game since last week over 65 games played but tonight was really bad.

Checked my connection and everything is going great guns

I'll try again tomorrow night. Bedtime.

What sort of connection speed's a good one for these sorts of online games? I'm on 8 meg BB, but it only usually pulls down 2.5 megs when connected. Is this rubbish?

That's loads more than you need. Basically any broadband is fine for playing, but you need a decent upload speed in order to host games.

I played this almost solidly for the first 'real' day of release, that is the day after the initial abortive release, loved every minute of it. Had some godlike games and so not so godlike games. I initially played rumble stuff and then some teamstuff, it was admittedly the teamstuff where I had some of my worst moments, yet these are the game types I enjoy most. I suppose if I could sum up I played best in vip games, as the vip. I could go on about what makes halo great and this a great iteration of halo but I think it's been covered more eloquently elsewhere. Top stuff. Not been on since day one/two though....

Sorry to ask, how do I find out my upload speed?

There are websites that do it. Type 'online speed test' or similar into Google. Or check with your ISP?

Halo picks hosts itself anyway, so it's a bit different for that. And it keeps a record of hosting, so if your upload isn't enough, it won't pick you to host.

Hmm, I'll give you the flag one as I know that was being used right at the start. I also remember the red team wins on a draw thing but I don't think it was as blatant as just that, I never remember being annoyed by it anyway, did it only happen under certain circumstances?

The sword jump thing, getting the bomb out of the map, super jumps (which you didn't mention), they weren't discovered until well after the release, over half a year at least for one or two of them, I'm sure. Those sorts of things can't be tested for so I'm sure there will be similar problems with Halo 3 appearing after millions of games have been played by next summer.

genuine ;)

You must have selective amnesia not to remember all these clearly game-breaking problems. We had these for a good 3-4 months (edit: 5 months) until the 1.1 patch came out. Most of these problems reared their head in the first few weeks.

The hope would be that this beta would help spot and fix any problems. I bet they are just testing the matchmaking code, the idiots.

Well, they are asking for people to say what bugs etc they have encountered. Surely they aren't asking just for a laugh.

Is anyone gonna be playing some Big Team Battle tongiht or tomorrow? I wanna check out the Banshee...

It's not that good anymore. For 2 reasons mainly, firstly it hovers, it doesn't constantly fall. Secondly now that it can be destroyed by quite a few weapons (which is a good thing) it means it isn't the game winning vehical of choice anymore.

Sounds good actually. Far more balanced.

Its more balanced if you are on the ground, but if you are in the thing its a bit useless compared to before. Its fantastic using one of the jumps, timed perfectly to get into the air and hijack it though just at the right time.

No they didn't, it was months before that sword-flying glitch was discovered. The only real bug that could have been avoided pre-release was the pickup-through-walls one, everything else could only be discovered through playing hundreds of thousands of games. I wouldn't even class the flag bouncing thing as a glitch, they even mentioned its usefulness in one of the weekly updates. They probably didn't expect people to manage to use it so effectively on that* map but I still wouldn't class it as a glitch - just a cheap way of scoring.

*can't remember what it's called but I'm sure you know which I mean

They mentioned about the Sword-Flying Glitch in a Weekly Update about 3 weeks after release so it wasn't too long. It was never that big a deal really though, superjumping was far more of an issue which I guess they can't fix.

I discovered that Weekly Update archive earlier today, it makes for quite interesting reading looking through some of the old updates. I'd forgotten how rampant modding was in Halo 2 for ages (not really Bungie's fault, I accept). Flying Warthogs ;)

The flag bouncing was on Colossus, and was actually really impressive if anyone pulled it off because it was quite difficult to do when practicing it, let alone with everyone shooting you.

Nah, there was a sweetspot where you could do it every time looking at the angle where the wall starts to slope up. If you knew how to do it you could score within about 10-15 seconds of picking up the flag, rather than the minute plus it took to walk it around, probably much longer than that actually, I haven't played it properly for about a year.

That sounds really bad for them/bungie to say it was useful in a weekly update. All i takes is for someone on your team or the enemy team to do a super bounce and thats the game ruined. I mean why do you think so many people quit so early cause they no the games ruined from the start.

Obviously they didn't plan for it to be used to such good effect on Colossus, but the flag/oddball/etc flying all over the place after killing the carrier with random grenades and rockets added a bit of variety to it. You might get lucky and the flag flies towards the capture point, you might be unlucky and see it bounce over the edge on Lockout and fall off the map.

On Halo 3 the flag and other game objectives have infinite gravity and just fall straight to the floor when the carrier is killed, it makes the game easier to predict which is both a good thing and a bad thing.

Dummy glitching ie when your flag would just disappear out of your base and then was capped by the other teams seconds later was ruining skirmish and big team within weeks of release and wasent fixed untill patch 1.1. It was a massive game-breaker and worse than super jumping and flag tossing imo.
