I was shit at Halo DM, 1 & 2, and I'm shit on this beta too. As long as there's no tedious Flood/Library sections, I guess I'll just have to look forward to the single player game. And the four player co-op. That will be cool.

Haven't gotten too many games played yet, matchmaking takes ages, but once I'm in a game I've only noticed lag once or twice and that's been when using a man-cannon, apart from that, lag-free, so connection issues, lovely.

I'm pretty useless, but have had a lot of fun in the games I've played. Much like in Halo 2, I'm rubbish in pure kill count matches, but when it comes to King or Territories I get on a lot better. Completely agree the King area marker is a bit much, hopefully they'll tone it down a bit for the final release, just increasing the transparency would be an improvement. Had a great Territories game on Highground with three German teammates and despite the language barrier we got on pretty well, winning the first round easily. Also had a great Team Crazy King game on Valhalla where the teams were very well matched and the leader switched almost a dozen times over the course of the match.

As for the maps, love Valhalla, had some great flanking tactics with a team and really had to resist doing stunts with the Warthog. I may have driven one over the mancannon just out of curiosity though, did a complete roll and landed on my wheels though. I can see many Valhalla matches degenerating into silly car chases.

High Ground is also a lot of fun, had a couple of great moments sneaking through the pipe and fropping through the hatch on top of the bunker bit.

Not sure about Snowbound yet. Only played Slayer on it though, so it may well be better with other match types but I'm kind of meh about it so far.

Weapons balance is great, seems you can at least make some progress with any gun now and not be swearing because you're stuck with something useless. Loving the bubble shield, dropping it then running out and smacking someone in the face before running back in has gotten a few good kills. Only used the trip mine once, I can see it being very useful but I would like to apologise to Dark Scarab for the incident in Valhalla, I was aiming for the Warthog and thought you'd manage to not walk over it. Sorry. :)

All in all, can't wait for the final version and I may even head back to Halo 2 multiplayer for a bit after this.

:) Preacher was saying that the achievements are all single player. I don't believe that but I really hope it's not things like:

"Sticky 100 people in matchmaking"

Any achievements that force you to play ranked games is just wrong.

I'm sure I heard it somewhere but I may well be wrong. I've had a look at the Halo 2 PC achievements and I expect the Halo 3 ones won't be too disimilar:

All Bungie have said about achievements is that there will be none that require you to play ranked multi-player games. They mentioned that after Gears of War got so much stick for requiring you to play with dicks online. So like Halo 2 on PC they'll be multi-player achievements but you'll be able to get them in ranked or social games.

Make it a bit more tactical, no? Rather than you all camping in the hill, it forces at least two of your team to wonder out the hill and take your opponents down before they get close. Otherwise it just becomes an insane grenade fest.

In theory yeah but when it's inside on High Ground the person in the hill is completely isolated.

I'm sure I heard that the 'Race' gametype is making a return from Halo 1...

I really hope that's true. Such an amazing game type, and home to some of the most evil betrayals I've ever seen in a multiplayer game. It was fantastic :D

Does the time not go up faster the more of your team is in the hill? That was the case on Halo 2, wasn't it?

Nah, definitely doesn't. I can't work out if it does for Territories or Land Grab, though. A couple of people I play with seem to thinkit does, but I can't for the life of me see any speed increase.

Territories definately does have team capture. It flys up in about 10 seconds with all 4 in there. Takes an age on your own.

I love the new territories game type but I do think people are struggling to get the hang of it a little. I guess that's to be expected when they fundamentaly change the game but keep the name the same.

BTB training's up now, seems to have replaced Team Training.

Indeed:

Like any good chef we're making some changes to the recipe in the Public tastetest we call the Halo 3 Beta. This week we're making our first change to the Matchmaking Playlist . We're swapping out Team Training and adding in Big Team Training. In Big Team Training players will play 6v6 on High Ground and Valhalla. In addition to some existing modes look for some new modes in Big Team Training, like Multi Flag CTF on Valhalla. Additionally, we've made some slight tweaks to the Team Skirmish playlist that should add greater variety in the opponents you'll face.

So what's the score with the MVP thing. I've read several people moaning that they didn't get it but it doesn't show up on bungie.net. Does it show you at the end of the match?

Yes, under the little MC picture on the stats screen.
