A Halo modding community has accidentally made various hidden game files public, found by retrieving hidden data in the Halo 3 Beta code.

Before we go any further, a warning: the following are in no way official or confirmed features of Halo 3.

* New equipment: Instacover ; Smoke (suggested this might be a smoke grenade?) ; Jammer

* New vehicles: Chopper ; Pelican ; Shadow

* New weapons: Flamethrower ; Claymore Grenade

* New mode: Infection (described as "Destroy the Flood or become infected. Score points for killing flood or big points for infecting a human. The player with the most points wins."

* New rankings: The highest rankings are now Killpocalypse and Killionaire, instead of Double Kill and Triple Kill.

* A reference to a map editor has also been found, a returning feature from Halo 2.

An infection mode would be amazing but wondered what abilites a flood infected player would have ? I'd imagine the infected player would have the ability to jump far and would infect other players with a single melee attack, which would effectively be a one hit kill. And maybe have the ability use those floating jellyfish type flood to help find hiding players or is that going to far ?

There was no map editor in Halo 2 :( and I cannot imagine them bringing one out when theres money to be made via DLC.

The beta is absolutely fantastic, excellent weapon balancing and really nice variety with the power up items. The only thing I wish they'd change is make the Covey assault rifle non dual-wieldable and put the pause on hit function back in from Halo 1. It was a really distinctive weapon in the original but it's just a standard aline type weapon now.

Absolutely love the sound effects throughout. The reload sounds are really nice as are the animations. I love the distant sound of gunfire on Valhalla and the underwater muffle when you fall in water.

Territories is also a really nice gametype now, feels more complete.

Nice work Bungie, you've learnt from your Halo2 mistakes and restored the faith!

Where's the 'filter' option?

'Edit options' (x button) in the lobby.

I'm finding grenading at range easier, the flight of the grenades seems improved somehow - I got a kill halfway across the map on Valhalla a few games back.

This just gets better and better. I'm not going to be able to go back to Halo2.

I was just wondering if 4 player co-op was possible last night. Amazing news if this is true. The 360 will be fast cementing itself as my favourite console (and that's taking into consideration snes and amiga with rose tintedness)

I think the films are incredible - a great addition - though I'd like to have controls to Rewind/FF (maybe you can, but I couldn't find it)

They're not controllable at all, but I've heard that's only for the beta - the retail version should have various cameras, at least, and I'd be amazed if it didn't have Play/Pause/RW/FF too.

I also love the films. I just wish I could play to a standard worth watching twice.

I did get a 'kill frenzy' on shottie snipers though taking out about 6 players in a row with the sniper rifle before getting killed. More deaths followed after too. Is this considered a cheap weapon online?

Because everything is so well balanced I don't think any of the weapons can be considered cheap really.

You're going to be able to edit movies/clips together as well, so I assume there will be playback controls.

But, I think partly because of my NAT situation, mine takes a while to match me with anyone, and eventually it will get to the point of setting the skill range from 1 to 19 in hopes of finding someone for me. Therefore, I'm hardly well matched with my rank of 3.

This.

There's clips in the vidocs they put out of them pausing the playback and moving the camera around too. I'd love to be able to zoom around the map while the playback is running. Wonder if thats possible?

What I've managed to play without my 360 freezing has been pretty good so far, but the time between games can take a while. I think thats to do with my rather old router though.

I am worried that my 360 is dying due to the freeze ups however. Is there anyone who has had this happen with any other games?

I'm guessing this is an overheating issue. The only thing I can think of is for you to try buying one of those extra cooling packs that you stick on the back of your 360 and see if that makes any difference. This is might get you through the beta

If your 360 is dying, the freeze ups are a symptom rather than the cause. This is a beta though, so let's hope this is not the case. Once other games start freezing up too, your 360 is definitely dying.

Due to never getting my Xbox online before selling it on I missed out on Halo 2 multiplayer, so online Halo is a new experience for me. I have to say I'm impressed. It pisses all over the other online FPS' I've played since getting my 360. Up until playing this the best I'd played on the 360 was Rainbow 6 and Call of Duty 2 (back when there wasn't much out on the 360) and I was well into them for a time, but this is something else. I really don't know what I'll do to kill the time between the end of the Beta and the full release in September. Everything about the game just feels so right.

I was struggling to understand the Valhalla love until today when I finally got to grips with the Battle Rifle, it's now my favourite map and the BR is probably my favourite weapon. I was doing quite well for a Halo novice with a kill ratio of 1.2 odd. I went out last night and came home to find my kid brother had been playing all afternoon/evening/night resulting in the ratio dropping to 0.8 or some shit like that. Needless to say, I'll be getting him his own Live sub in time for September 26th.

It takes ages for my 360 to find a new game. It's getting pretty annoying to be honest. I think it's probably one of the things they'll notice and iron out post the Beta.

I've also had freeze-ups for the first time ever, particularly post game and when I try and look at my friends list. Sometimes it clears after about 2 minutes. I think that running through Crackdown causes part of the problem - it all seems a bit unstable.

Some new details surrounding the upcoming Halo 3 campaign have been leaked. It appears that Bungie have some big surprises lined up for the sure-fire hit, possibly one of the biggest of them all is the inclusion of 4-player co-op over Live and system link. Fans have been begging for the feature, and it seems Bungie have adhered to the fans pleas. Co-op multiplayer has proved to be extremly popular amongst titles such as Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six and Epic's blockbuster, Gears Of War, with the inclusion of 4-player co-op, it looks like Bungie's attempting to raise the bar.

quote:

So what’s the big news? Well, scrolling through the list of onscreen text for party menus one sentence in particular stands out:

The game cannot start because all players are set to observer. Too many players for splitscreen. Only 2 players may play splitscreen coop on the same Xbox 360 console. The party size is too large to start the game. Up to 4 players may play coop on Xbox Live or System Link. Loading information from Xbox Live…

That’s right, 4 player Co-operative play will be included in in Halo 3. Available both online over Xbox Live and also locally via System link. We begged for it’s inclusion, we got it.

Bungie look all set to live up to their promises delivering all they can with this final entry in the Halo trilogy. This is gonna be sweet.

So, who's going to write a Dummies Guide To Halo 3 Weapons And Their Uses for us that are shit at the beta?

If they are a reasonable distance away, use a Carbine or a Battle Rifle (but you must aim for the head)

With the sniper, if you're not that confident and they have nowhere to run, just try 2 body shots rather than go for the head.

Running at people and Assault Rifling them and finishing with a melee is good.

The charge up shot from the Plasma Pistol takes off peoples shields but it doesn't lock on now as well as it did.

Plasma Rifling someone while rushing at them and then smacking them with it will kill them.

The new Needler is good from short to mid range, especially if you have the drop on them, just empty the clip into them.

As a general rule, I'll pick up any other weapon if I just have the Assault Rifle - it's quicker to switch weapons than reload sometimes in an emergency.

Are they going to fix the matchmaking at all? Even when I try the rumble training it throws me and four other spaz-mitten handed losers in with some Mountain Dew addled psychopath who just rapes everyone.

It feels like Mike Tyson at a beauty pagent and I'm Miss Wyoming.

There's not much you can do during the course of that particular match, but afterwards, you can rate the player as "Too Good" which will at least lessen the chances of you getting them again. (And presumably will lessen the chances of them getting matched with other people with a similar skill level to yours, if Bungie know what they're doing.)

Yeah, it's often the difference between dying or not if you can switch weapon after using up the short AR clip.

This is what I love about Halo. Sometimes when your in a one on one scrap with someone if you quick to think you can get the upper hand. Many a time when I just been killed I think damn I should of meleed first then finished off with the AR or I could of switched weapon on the reload, or only if I used the spike grenade instead of the frag etc so many decisions to make in a short space of time.
