Halo 3 - now coming to Xbox One. MC Collection.

Been playing this today and tonight with loads of people from the forum, and been having great fun with it. It really does have a Halo 1 vibe, doesn't it? I'm really impressed with the graphics as well - I was pretty unimpressed by the videos and sceens there's been, but seeing it on my TV screen (and it's not even an HDTV) was a real relevation. It is a lot like the original Halo, but polished to an incedible shine. The water's lovely as well, and I love the footprints in the snow.

I gave up with all the crazy glitchyness tonight though. I suspect it's because America got off work and then began to flood the game - the incredibly low number of players shown on screen (it was only ever up to a 1000 for the entire of Halo 3) must be a glitch of some kind. If it were true than just the people in my friends list playing Halo 3 would have made 1 or 2% by themselves.

Anyway, great fun apart from that, and hope to play a lot more with the forum over the fortnight.

Only played 20 games so far but loving every single moment of it.

The match making seems good except for my last batch of games where I seemed to be playing againts five Bungie employees who are from an alternative reality and have played Halo 3 for the past 900 years.

They knew exactly where to go, what to do, where I was and where I would be in 7 seconds time. It was amazing and I realised I shall never be good.

I did have a ratio of 1.56

Now:

Total Kills: 251

Total Deaths: 230

Kill/Death Ratio: 1.0913

Total Assists: 63

One of my last games I had an average lifespan of 22seconds. And I discovered that I can't stand the Sniper Shotty game. I'm terrible at it.

Apart from that I'm loving it and my weekend will be all Halo 3

I was very underwhelmed at first - mainly by the visuals - but am completely and utterly hooked now. It's so addictive, and has that "just one more go" vibe only the best MP games do.

Of everything, I think it's actually the sound that impresses the most. 5.1 has seldom made such a difference to a game. Surround sound footsteps come through so clearly and precisely, but it's also the little things too, like the way firefights can all be heard echoing off in the distance, or the way gunshots muffle under water...or just the way the assault rifle clicks crisply as you slam a new clip into it. Amazing. Can't wait to hear the music in the full game.

And only 4 months to go? Can't wait.

Just discovered I got sent a friends and family code 5 days ago. I could have been playing this, lording it over all of you plebs had I only bothered to check my messages at bungie.net rather than arseing around waiting for Crackdown to come good - cock and balls.

That aside, great game. Loving it so far.

After an unbelievable rigmarole trying to get the fucking thing started, it's actually pretty amazing. The map with the gate and the beach is fantastic, the laser is brilliant, the needler is heavy! The lack of customs and only having 3 maps is pretty wack, but when the full game comes out, MY GOD! It's gonna be amazing.

i was thinking the exact same thing... the positional audio in this game is fucking incredible, i've not played anything that's come close.

If I had to find something to pick about, it would definitely be the sound of the assault rifle. Just sounds weedy...

Bungie have managed a pretty smooth transformation, away from dual wielding. I think I've dual wielded once or twice, but it's mostly been the AR, BR or Covie rifle for me...

And the new territories gametype is about a million times better than before.

It's gone from being the one gametype I'd veto 100% of the time if I could in Halo 2 to probably the best gametype in Halo 3.

It's fantastic, especially on Valhalla - well, if tyler isn't on the other team with a sniper.

really impressed with the small amount i've played of this - getting into games seems very hit and miss and my gold trial is supposed to expire soon so i might not get much time on it, but yeah it's great. as others have said, the sound is really good - hearing people getting chased down by someone on a ghost away in the distance is impressive - only rainbow six vegas has got this type of thing as close to being right.

i didn't play halo2 online much at all so it's all new to me, one highlight was a duel i had with a guy on a ghost, who was flying about and strafing me, but not hitting me enough to cause much damage, while i was didging his shots, pumping all sorts of crap into him as he floated about. I killed him  really cool and action movie-ish. oh and the laser thing is cool.

my interest in the game has jumped 200%

Alright, me and other salivating Greeks played for some hours last night. Here's my lowdown:

A. Sound: Holy shit! The design is -easily- one of the most impressive things ever created in videogames. Positional audio, digital clarity, zero delay, background sounds not buried (even amidst the chaos of battles). I tell you, the single player audio will be a small revolution for the industry.

B. Graphics: Very good. Detail is pumped, no frame rate loss, excellent draw distance. Subtle animations make the game even more beautiful (for example, check how the Master Chief lands after a jump). Weapon fx are great.

C. Online play: Firm, addictive and refined. Many more options at hand but the new 'gadgets' (like bubble shield) can not be fully fleshed out in these maps. An evolution of Halo 2 which promises great things.

D. Weapons: Good additions though at the moment some of them are a little unbalanced (that's what the beta is for though, right?)

E. Service: Long waiting times aside (beta related), the service is amazing. Stat tracking of excellent depth, previous match tracking, veto voting, refined level tracking and, despite it's early state, I experienced no lag whatsoever.

Bungie, you seem to have done it. Very, very impressed at the moment.

from that lobby hit 'start matchmatcking'. that's just the lobby where you can form a group to play with, but you don't actually get matched up with opponents until the next stage. that menu is a bit counter-intuitive

it's blanked out though and it just says acquiring info from xbox live or something

Valhalla. Have a look at the maps here.

Aye, my fave I think. On the face of it, it looks pretty darn ugly. But it's the biggest of the maps, and if you stop and look around - particularly off in the distance - there's some really bloody gorgeous archictecture enveloping this one as well.

Even though I'll be the first to say the game looks a bit poo, stuff like this does actually impress on a visual level, and it's clear why Bungie have reduced the overall detail compared to some other 360 offerings. I'm expecting epic draw distances and humungous levels in the single player game, much like Halo 1.

Bear in mind that this is only the multiplayer action we are talking about. So you may yet have a chance.

Sure, but with Halo 2 I was anticipating the single-player (due to the excellence of the first game). With Halo 3 I don't have high expectations of single-player, but I am interested in - and now getting excited about - online (despite the idiocy of the Halo 2 community, it was great).
