Burnout 3 10/10

Can't help feeling that gamesTM got this very wrong, even more so after playing it for a week. Obviously it's a good game, but surely a 10/10 accolade should go to something that doesn't bore the pants off you after a few days.

Has anyone else got to the 50 percent itch stage? Hey, I just unlocked another car with, er, pretty much the same stats as all the other cars I unlocked.

I think it's just fantastic. I'm about 50% through after 20 hours, and still loving it.

Ah but when you get to about 90-100% complete and see if you still feel that way. Burnout 3 is a brilliant game but it isnt a 10/10. It just doesnt have the longterm appeal, and its too frustrating in the final stages.

Is it, though? The F1 car GP was annoying, but all the others only required a few retries or so.

Burnout 3 is a 10 for these types of people: Retards.

Pfffft. I love it still. Maybe it's cos I have less time to play games than most of you lot but I still find it a real buzz.

Still getting Outrun 2 tomorrow though. Game wouldn't let me have it despite selling Mindscape. Pokemon and all other releases one day early as usual.

Apparently head office had told them not to go early with Outrun.

I've put about 16 hours into Burnout 3 and would have put more if Katamari Damacy hadn't shown up on my doorstep. Still loviing it though in between getting tired of rolling up people (as if that ever happens).

However I'd agree 10/10 is over the top. Its not perfect by any means. 9/10 personally - but then again its all to do with how each mag does their ratings.

The real question is - will rllmuk ever go a day without some thread saying reviewers /10 score was wrong?

I agree that score debates go round in circles. However, this touches on a wider issue: we all know that the majority of mags are not to be trusted when it comes to dishing out the highest scores. They'll do it to sell a few extra copies and come across as 'enthusiastic'!!!

After over a year on the shelves gamesTM had only given out one 10 so I thought they were a bit different from the single format mags and Official mags that give 10s to anything. There's no way on earth this game sets any kind of benchmark. It's very good, but a better driving game will be along in no time.

I just can't get over how much effort has been put in to courses and models that I fly through/past and complete in a single attempt, possibly to be seen a couple of more times in future events. Yes, I can go back and perfect them, but what's the point? I've got my shiney new car (another one) and I've had my big pat on the back and been awarded new tracks and crash junctions to play. What's my incentive to go back and actually try?

Retards is a bit harsh, but the game is definitely made for people with attention deficit disorder.

Maybe EA used too many spoilt kids in the play testing?

Burnout 3 is a great game, but I was not suprised to see it get a 10/10 since the month or so before had a full front and back BO3 cover with a 4 page preview inside.

Not that I'm implying that there was any sort of publisher pressure on them of course, rather that they dont usuall lavish that sort of attention on a game that is not even out so must of been quite 'pumped' about it.

The thing about Burnout is that it's amazing when it first starts, but then interest slowly saps away as you play. It's odd, but it's a very subtle process. Pretty much when you realise that the game is in fact not as fast as it seems (a lot of the speed is achieved by pseudo optical illusions), is when it starts, and when a the annoyingness of the AI kicks in (If you're in front, even if you've been burning ahead for two laps you have every car close behind you, ready to overtake if you crash once, and definitely if you crash twice, but if you're behind, the cars start racing ahead to form a long line ahead of you), and then some of the various little niggles start to become apparent (bits where you recover from a crash in a place that takes you out immediately, bits where the game controlling your car while you watch opponent's crashes put you into a wall, the fact that you can't control the camera when you crash, meaning that you aftertouch based on guesswork, the fact that the lovely bloom lighting means that you are sometimes driving right into the glare and can't see anything).

Still, a great game, but certainly not a 10/10.

Put in a few more hours earlier prior to going off to the gym and my completion rate has lept from 59% to 75%

I was getting bored of it before but I think after getting some decent games in on Live! it's made me play through it a tad more - when only a few weeks ago I thought I'd reached my tether with the game itself.

Not worthy of a 10/10 in my books by any means but definately an 8/10 - maybe a 9/10 at a push ;) I still get pissed off with the game at times, esp with those long GP races in F1 cars

Also the fact that I can't seem to get a game of R6 3: BA with anyone on my friends list has driven me to play this instead (no pun intended!).

I think Burnout 3 is great, brilliant, beautiful and definitely contender for game of the year. And it's definitely the best arcade-racer I've ever played.

But 10/10? No. I'd reserve that particular accolade for games that make such an impact that you will still talk about it in 5 or 10 years. Burnout 3 will be forgotten once Burnout 4 comes out. 9/10 or 9.4/10 would be pretty realistic though.

It's way, way better than OR2 though IMO, but that's a different discussion.
