So Whos's Playing Fable?

Voice acting is crap though. Shame they didn't spend a few quid on some decent actors. Sound like the dev team did the voices themselves during their lunchbreak.

It's rather hit and miss IMO.

The Scouse and Scots guys seem to work, but many of the others (the women and children especially) are just kinda wrong and cringeworthy. :)

But man, it's drop dead gorgeous at times. I managed to open a demon door earlier and the area inside was lovely with some of the best lighting work I've ever seen in a game. Great music and ambient FX too.

Wasn't that the point though? It's supposed to be played repeatedly and you're supposed to develop different characters, try out different things and that.

I'm pure evil at the age of 39. Just married the mayoress of Bowerstone. Oh yes - money, power, people running away when they see me. I'm that cool.

And I'm still having fun.

How does the stealth work, and can you break into houses without setting off the guards?

I cant believe people aren't liking the voice acting, they did use actors, and its fucking great. Its a funny game, and hearing phrases like "I'm knackered" and "Chicken chaser" makes me smile.

I don't know what kind of voice acting would make it better? Maybe people want deadly serious american heroic hollywood bruckheimer voices. I don't.

The "your energy is low" REALLY pisses me off though.

I think my main problem with the voice acting is that a tiny town can have one of everything - a scot, brummie, mancunian, welsh. Weird.

I live in Manchester and in the main everyone has a Manchester accent unless you are a student - and I haven't seen many of them in Fable yet.

Sudeki was slagged off for just chucking every single dialect in that they could muster.

13 hours in now. Im hooked and so for this is game of the year for me (until halo 2). I cant remember the last time I enjoyed myself so far with an action rpg since ocarina of time!

Going home after along quest to get in bed with the wife is a strangely compelling motivation

well some of the repeating phrases are either REALLY annoying, or just not annoying at all, I dont mind from the villagers, I do from the "your health is low" bastard.

'An important new quest card has....''

...Yes I know, now FUCK OFF, I'm trying to get laid.

Criticism of the combat and the way you can succeed in it with random button bashing - fine.

But "repeating phrases"? Or "hackneyed story" (the story *plays* with the genre, and the world building around it *plays* with the genre - it's deliberately featuring fantasy tropes).

Yup. I agree with this. I haven't been annoyed by repeating phrases a single bit. I get slightly annoyed when he says I'm low on mana just after I've replenshed it, but nothing serious.

I'm about 4hrs in, and am really loving it

The voice acting is funny - especially the "west country" accents, I grew up listening to them and they still tickle me rib.

There is a lot of humour in the game too, like on the gravestones etc.. nice little touches.

Oh, is fucking beautiful and very atmospheric too, which is ace.

Fable = Morrowind Lite + a bit of soul (Morrowind lacked that).

I also played it until 5 am last night. Tis a damn great game, and all the people saying its bad are either deaf dumb and blind, or just havent played it enough.

I loved the "traders quest" where you body guard the 3 traders going through darkwood. The little things they say to each other while travelling was ace, especially the one who'd got attacked. All those who hoped it'd be better than Sudeki can breath a massive sigh of relief. I'm loving it. Voice acting is good throughout, rather than the shoddy Sudeki.

I went to bed at 6am yesterday and then woke up work at 8am

I should go back to bed, but fable beckons

Im going to sacrafice another night of sleep. Im sorta glad it isnt as open ended as morrowind, which after about 20 hours or so I really found the size incredibly daunting and offputting.I found it a right pain going from one place to another, but fable keeps it so focused and theres still a lot to do.

A pat on the back for big blue box, and a mouth gag for mr moleneux.

just got back from playing another 4 hour stint, had to rescue this kid inside the hobbo cave.

He died right at the end got traped in the corner and surrounded by them hobbo's, in most RPG's i would just switch the console off and never touch it for a few days.

But even while im typing this, im wanting to go back and rescue that dam kid, i think another 5 am sesh is arising.

I did that earlier too (the quest and got the kid killed I mean)but luckily I did a hero save before rescueing him so I didn't loose much experiance.

That force push will power is very handy for dealing with Hobbes.

I'll be putting some real effort into wooing a few women (and men possibly) tommorow. I don't want to be single by the time I'm 40.
