So Whos's Playing Fable?

Had it about a day now, but with the wife and footy in the way have only been able to finish the training and first couple of quests and my feelings are mixed about it.

I have been waiting for this game forever and have read everything I could about and it is really spoiling it for me (thank goodness are so tight lipped about halo 2). I was expecting to play it and be amazed by "every choice a consequence" but was confronted with "press A to end your childhood" and quests just restarting if you die! (oh i could go on)

The thing is though I have kept playing and actually found after the disappointment quite a solid game. Some amazing graphics, great voices (the scouser bandit did make me larf), enjoyable combat, cool magic and some cool touches that would have normally made the game stand out if it wasn’t for the crushing expectations (fooking molyneux).

Even tho my expectations have taken some of the enjoyment away I (and I have only played it for 4ish hours) IMO its a solid 7 maybe even an 8.

Somebody over at NTSC-UK is reporting that they have finished it at around about 12 hours :D

I got this yesterday and finished it today.

I had high hopes for this game like many of us, and I'd hate to admit but this game disappointed me. It was interesting enough to get me playing,

but after 12 hours of play it came to a sudden end. So sudden I couldn't beleive it. I didn't rush either, I spent some time doing side quests and playing mini-games. The world is just too small! Still, the envronment, music and enemies are ace.

Sold. That's a perfect game length for me. :D

This made me laugh.

Okay, so I got married last night in Bowerstone. After getting married I decided to get fat. I had almost 300 gold and spent all of it on apple pies. Then I just gorged myself and ate all of the pies. My hero became "obese" and I now have a big 'ol gut and some nice little love handles.

Then I waddled out of town (you actually move slower when your fat) to do some fighting. Fought some bandits, started losing too much weight, so I filled up on pies again.

I found this wicked face tattoo that covered my whole face. I bought it. I went home wanting to show off my new look to my wife. The last time she saw me I was all in shape and pretty (the face tattoo really brought down my attractivness).

I go home and the first thing she says is "My, you've really filled out haven't you." She then says "What did you do to your face? I don't like it." I then try to flirt with her and apparently she isn't into tubby guys with wicked face tattoos.

She kept on with the negative comments so I started beatin on her. Just with my fists. She then divorces me. I saw her in town the next day and she started yelling about how I was her no good ex-husband and all I did was sit around and get fat. I stopped playing right after that, but she is now on my hit list and will die a very painful death.

Yes, my muscular, ripped, good, hero is starting to turn into a fat, evil, landlord (once I get more money i'm going to get into the whole real estate thing.)

Just some of the pointless things you can get up to in Fable. Class.

I'm currently trying to woo the barber in Bowerstone South. Beer & chocolates seem to work well (unsurprisingly).

Also, I didn't realise how violent this game can be until I decapitated a bandit which produced a nice GTA style blood spurt. I then proceeded to kick the head around for a few minutes. B)

just wait til the media find out about a game where you can hit kids.

It'll be trouble. I am aware of the things that were removed but I reckon thats gonna cause problems.

That would be ironic considering the way the media tends to ignore child abuse and focus on teh filthy peados despite it being a much more fundamental ill in society.

Sorry, very OT. ;)

Wasn't that the point though? It's supposed to be played repeatedly and you're supposed to develop different characters, try out different things and that.

I'm pure evil at the age of 39. Just married the mayoress of Bowerstone. Oh yes - money, power, people running away when they see me. I'm that cool.

And I'm still having fun.

The lips and repeating phrases reallllyy grate on me.  It's just...bad.

The lips? You mean there are people who care about lip synching?

As for repeating phrases - *name a game that doesn't have repeating phrases*. I'll excuse moans about the Guildmaster's "exhilirating" commentary on your current status - particularly since his commentary always seems to be two steps behind

I really feel people are being hypercritical for the sake of being hypercritical on this board sometimes. It's got involvement from Molyneux! It's been hyped ( ok - so the two are redundant  )! Let's show how uber-knowledgable we are by criticising it for flaws that we'd not mention if it was in any other game!

Criticism of the combat and the way you can succeed in it with random button bashing - fine.

But "repeating phrases"? Or "hackneyed story" (the story *plays* with the genre, and the world building around it *plays* with the genre - it's deliberately featuring fantasy tropes).

And hey, anything where the lead bad guy isn't a giant whale is... :P

I've played about 30 mins of this before I got sucked away by Star Wars Battlefront.

Initial impressions on this is that whilst it seems it could be interesting, it didn't set me alight when I played it.

Voice acting I found to be terrible (bar the local bobby I guess). They all sound like cast off's from Coronation Street and sorry, this really grates on me - sounds sooo artificial and fake and to me, doesn't suit the environment at all.

Controls seem fine although when trying to engage in chat with one person when they have their friend next to them seems a bit hit and miss and you end up engaging in chat with the wrong person :)

Good and bad deeds - how can you possibly not want to twat that pesky kid who you help in the first place but then decides to be a cocky bastard. I've lost count of all the times his stupid taunts have led me to beating the bastard up if only to hear his wimpy pleads to stop.

He surely is evil and you should be able to rack up uber good deeds!

Visuals seem so so - I don't like the animation much. But maybe that's just me because I like 'cutesy' stuff or something.

I'll give it a few hours over the weekend and see how it goes - maybe.

Im going to sacrafice another night of sleep. Im sorta glad it isnt as open ended as morrowind, which after about 20 hours or so I really found the size incredibly daunting and offputting.I found it a right pain going from one place to another, but fable keeps it so focused and theres still a lot to do.

Agreed.

I spent ages in my childhood and teenage years just running little errands and things. :)
