"Lack of polish"? Or "Inconsistent polish"?

I'm comparing it to Zelda (that post was me, wrong user account  ). Just as much fun, vastly superior in many ways, but Zelda manages to make the whole thing pretty seamless - none of that terrible slowdown, or the hugely irritating regular loading times, or seeing levels/people's hair load while you watch a cut scene. If Fable had had the same level of "keep them in the fantasy" it'd have been one of the best adventure games I've played.

To be honest, I don't notice the slowdown. Yeah, I can see the it but it hasn't spoiled my enjoyment of Fable yet. IMO framerate slowdown only affects games that need graphics delivery to be smooth, such as racing games or some shooters.

To me it's horses for courses.

I totally agree. It feels slightly disjointed. Also, I find that - as usual with Lionhead games - they don't mask their "key concept" very well. I dunno, but I find the good/evil thing a bit forced. I'd like to see if they could make it less noticeable in the inevitable Fable 2.

Not that I'm saying it's not a great game. It is. But it's got room for improvement.

Yeah I know what you mean, but I guess disguising those types of 'hooks' as something else would be damn near impossible. Also, a lot of people play those types of games purely for the sole purpose of being good or evil.

I guess you're either right into those types or you're not. Thanks for answering.

I didn't enjoy the side stories as much as I expected too. Think it's because it was so impersonal. I'd almost finished the game before I got married, just wanted to see what happened. Then wifey says "come to bed" before she, er, walks out the front door. The random speech made it feel more like GTA. Personally I'd like to have seen it done in a much more compact way, with more effort put into making it feel real for wont of a wanky phrase.

The main adventure & side quests were the dogs bollocks though, never felt bored. But then they weren't the game's main selling point ...

Yes, it's very much a case of "let's brainstorm all the cool things we could put in this game and then glue them together so that it works and that's good enough". I dunno whether I'd rather they cut out a few of the features at the expense of better integration, though. I suppose you'd have to be presented with both experiences.

I dunno.. the amount of times I've been in battle and gone into the menu to change clothes/weapons then come back out and it "stutters", I've then been hit before the screen with the characters comes back on.

Also I've noticed you can be walking around and the Level of Detail models/textures haven't loaded properly until you do another action it and it 'refreshes'. Not really a gameplay problem but does show the lack of finesse IMO.

Just finished it. Good, but I doubt I'll have time to play through it again.

Do you think they had originally intended the boats to be used? Not in a Zelda type saily-way, but in a cut scene to get to the other islands type way? It just would have made more sense than the teleporting method.

Just finished it for the second time, can you do anything after you've finished it or do you just wander around aimlessly?

hmm, I completed it earlier, and it just dumped me back at the frontend. The "continue game" option just had my previous save games before the final quest. Am I missing something or can I not wander around and do the remaining side quests after having defeated the final boss?

Took me 9.5 hours as recorded by the game, and that included a few side quests and mucking about... I was surprised by both it's shortness and how "unepic" it all seemed. Still, it kept me entertained while I nursed a bad cold this weekend.

You have to let the credits roll through completely, if you press a button it will cut straight to the menu...Leave it running and it will take you back so you can keep playing...

Damn that sucks, they should have fixed that as a bug, there's no reason for it.

whats all this stuff about 'fight club' in fable???

In a few towns you can find 'rings'. At night, some blokes run to the rings, and start to beat eachother up. Talk to the mohawk guy to participate in the contests. It isn't hard at all, and it's pretty cool.

There's a place where you can go and do a bit of fist fighting and if you take on the whole club and defeat the leader you can earn quite a bit from it.

I'm completely engrossed in this game now. Probably more so than in any game since Ocarina of Time. And, as geeky as it sounds, it's certianly the only one since then to have me not wanting to leave it and go outside. But that's the beauty of it: for all its flaws, and there are a lot, if you can put them and the hype aside and take it for what it is it's one of the richest, enjoyable and engrossing games there is. The morality system, for example, has little if any relevance to the main storyline, often judges you unfairly; and, if you know how, there are several cheap ways of making it swing one way or another without ever having to alter your general behaviour. On the other hand, witnessing the affect it has on your character from your appearance to the reactions of others around you; whether the sight of your character makes them fall in love, cower in fear, or just take the piss, adds so much to the experience of playing it. Maybe I haven't played enough RPGs, but I've known a game make you feel so much in control of who your character is (rather than simply what he does) and that the world you are in genuinely reacts to him based on who he is. Or maybe it's just an illusion. Either way, it's a lot of fun.

Anyway, can anyone tell me how to find the black rose?
