I think the only thing they've changed is adding the DS logo to the bottom screen. Still think they should have done something with the big spaces on the upper sides of the top screen. And done it all in black.

There's nothing shallow about having a modicum of taste. The best electronics combine form and function, like the Ipod, the PS1, and so forth.

Which is why the GBA SP is such a better buy than the GBA, for example. Thus far, the DS looks ug-lee.

I keep not really believing it's time for another Nintendo handheld. Still feels like the GBA only just came out.

I always ask myself what I'd change when looking at consumer goods, but I'm not exactly sure with the DS. I guess it's pretty hard to create something global that is appealing to all cultures. It's rarely happend before.

My only gripe is the 'dead area' of it I think, but I suspect that's more to do with housing the internal components than any asthetic decision by Nintendo.

Also, I just think that the black buttons simply don't work with the silver, it gives an overall 'cheapness' to the unit. Perhaps this is a 'British' thing? (memories of 70's Tandy electronics still pervade).

I pretty sure additional colours to the range will rectify this though.

There's just too much brush silver happening around the screens. It makes them look alot smaller than they actually are. I like the picture frame feel of the SP giving the illusion of a bigger screen.

When you look at the PSP it's ALL screen.

It's pretty nasty aesthetically compared to the psp but at the mo I don't definitely plan to buy either and if do it won't entirely be based on how good it looks.

This look alright, yeah. The PSP is obviously more attractive, but that goes without saying.

I've long been lobbying for consoles to become more like other consumer electronics, your slick hi-fi or flat screen TV for example. Consoles do not need to look individual.

Best example yet: the SP. The PSP so far overshadows it though.

I can't.

I have big hands (well, I'm a big chap in general). The SP is far too thin. Then there's the non-ergonomic nature of the thing. It doesn't look like anyone even considered that it would sit in someone's hands.

Still, different strokes for ... etc.

The power 'button' is now rectangular rather than curved at the sides. Is this a button or a switch, anyone? Having a button for power above the D-pad will seriously annoy me, unless it's a nokia-style hold-down-for ages-till-your-arm-aches power button... which will also annoy me.
