Ed-E
No i tell my sim to go to bed at 10 cos he's tired, she plays games, washes then around midnight buggers off home. She doesnt get into bed with him. They sometimes do that, and other times they'll come and join your Sim. I don't think there's any rhyme or reason to it. This game is ace. I'm building up a huge tragedy for my sims, I'm hoping he'll have a nervous breakdown and paint the walls with his shit. My Sim is engaged to another, but I'm having trouble moving him in - I think that's because he's got a son, though, and it's asking me what the hell I want to do with the thing (throw it away!). DoctorK
I've been playing it for large chunk of the weekend as it's pretty addictive, just like the first game. So far I'm really enjoying it, but talk about a power hungry game! I've got an X800 XT card in my machine and it still chugs in places in a big house with lots of stuff going on. I reckon I've played for about ten hours and have barely scratched the surface.
Spunky Monkey
Theres some strangness with the graphics on my system all fine but when he goes to the shower it chugs while he is on screen (ok lots of particle affects let it off there) but it also happens when he goes to the toilet, seems to happen when the black box appears covering their bits. InsideOutBoy
I only have a Radeon 9600, 512 RAM, and a 1.8ghz processor, but the game runs very smoothly on my system. I have can all the graphical options turned up to the max, and it only slows down when there's loads going on at once. Different drivers maybe? This game is scarily addictive. I played non-stop from 2pm to 2am last night and I still NEED MORE! I'm going to start talking like a Sim soon.

I had this same problem I am running it on the following Dell Inspiron 8200 (laptop) P4 1.6 256Mb RAM Geforce 440 GO 64Mb card With XP, I have now turned the effects to either low or off and changed the resolutin to the lowest setting 800x600 I think. It is now playable and has stopped crashing. I think it maybe time for a new PC.

JedEvangelion
Awesome game - anybody sussed out the use for the 'cheese helmet' looking thing (Aspirational reward No 2)? I put it on my Sim at Platinum level and within a day she'd descended into every bar being empty. Couldnt work out how to remove it. Clicking on myself didnt seem to remove it. Death showed up shortly after and wouldn't listen to my appeals. Shame, really, cos it was my Girlfriend's game, and she'd been playing it for about 4 hours, and left me to save it when she went to bed an hour earlier. And what's worse is that the Sim who died was supposed to be her (and it was 'me' doing the pleading with death - the likenesses you can model are uncanny) so I ended up playing until 5am Sunday morning just to get everything back (more or less) to where she'd left it when she went to bed. Now I'm understandably nervous to put it on again..

JedEvangelion
Nice one. I tried clicking on my sim, but that just gives a 'meditate' option, which made me laugh.
Gwynster
Yarred this over saturday night/sunday morning, and then my brother installed it on his machine, because I was of the opinion that Sims games are a waste of time, and 'you'd never catch me wasting my time on that rubbish'. Hours later, I'm still leaning over his shoulder, jabbing a finger at the TFT and telling him where to put his new sofa. I fear I'm gonna become addicted again, despite the fact I have noticed a number of rather bizarre bugs which appear to be apparent. There's the fact that it Won't Bloody Save, but also worrying is the problems with the construction menus. He wanted to add an extra room, but for some reason he was unable to build walls, put down carpets, anything. I don't mind so much, as the reason I pirate all my games is the fact that the vast majority are broken at release, and need patching before they're worth money. On his system at least, this seems to be the case. I'll try on my machine later today, but my hopes aren't good. If it works, I'll buy a copy as soon as I get to uni. Spunky Monkey
It probably wont save as its a yarr version, same thing happened with gta3 on the pc. And building options, you have to click the right menu, its split up into more sections this time. Got a question for you lot though. Im playing through it fairly normally but i hear theres storie modes, what are these and what do they do? Also how do you get stuff like the ghosts etc? Lazychu
Sorry if this has been asked before but is there a demo of this available? I doubt it would run on this laptop but there's no harm in trying if there is one I guess.
Spunky Monkey
I believe someone posted inside this very thread a link to a technical demo. Or on thesims2.com you can download a small program that lets you make your own sim. Ive just got my sim to woohoo with a nice blond bird, i asked her to move in prior to this, got 12 grand and spent it all on a hot tub, then woohooed her there and in the bed. Now she's inviting blokes home from work, so i tell them to bugger off.
Cyhwuhx
.::: Got into it only yesterday. It's much mroe emotive with the new animations and such and the winks into the camera to agree/disagree with your decisions is fantastic! I think Maxis also deserves some credit for making sex 'accessible' for all ages. Sure it's not 'real' but it beats Singels' representation of it, just for sheer comedy factor. (One of my Sims now wants to do it in public though....) It's The Sims made better in every respect (finally a weekend!) and then some. The engine is really impressive in my eyes. For all it's done right though it does one tiny thing wrong; making Sims age. It's the 30 day Pikmin-effect all over again! Feeling a steady pressure to move on, despite knowing it doesn't matter that much and you could always 'replay'. Yet, I don't want them to age unless I want to, so for now I'm having to resort to cheats to keep 'em at the same age and just experiment to hell. Captain Helanio
The 'cheat' for aging off is in the manual though, so I regard it more of an option, than a cheat

(O_o) Wow, that's actually very neat then. I didn't read the manual as I thought it would have a similar control scheme and such to The Sims, which proved to be right. Also the booklet seemed a bit too much to read.
DoctorK
I've turned aging off because by the time you've got their skills up to a decent level it's time to retire. I'm still playing this for what seems like hours each day, it's incredibly addictive. I was trying to get someone to marry me but then discovered she was already married. The solution? Drown the husband, that worked a treat.
Cyhwuhx
.::: I liked the fact how I got two girls going woohoo in bed, with a third one walking in and getting disgusted. Also a choice moment; my male sim being dumped on the sidewalk near his house because he was totally exhausted. Then a neighbouring sim walking past, stopping, looking at him, then shaking her head while moving on. It got me in stitches because it was so totally unexpected yet logical. Spunky Monkey
Ive come across a couple of problems. For example the phone started ringing at 2am (some stupid bloke wanting to speak to my sims fiance, AT 2AM!!!!) and it took about 2 hours for one of my sims to answer the phone cos they constantly kept having tantrums about being tired. Also if you have a simgle path way thats got walls around it or fences and theres rubbish in the middle, sims cant get past it and get stuck. Also how do you make sims woohoo outside? The game says find a vacant lot, go inside, click on the other sim to go inside as well and woohoo. But how do you leave to go to another house etc? Last night i had a wedding party, it was terrible and they didnt end up getting married (as i didnt buy the marrige arch thing) and now my sim is crying his eyes out as his party was so bad. Wickedkitten
Not to bump an ancient thread, but rather than make a new one, I'll just post this here. Electronic Arts has announced The Sims 2: Apartment Life, the eighth expansion pack to The Sims 2, which is part of the best selling PC franchise of all time. Even though The Sims 2 has many expansions, Apartment Life will take players out of the suburban setting and into a new apartment building. Players can choose and decorate from five different building types, where they will be accompanied by a butler. Prepare to explore new environments filled with more characters to interact with. The expansion also allows you to control multiple households which should make for a dynamic mix. Features:Move into the perfect apartment: a spacious loft, a cozy place for a young couple, or a multi-bedroom flat-share with friends. Mingle with Sims from all-new social groups: stylish socialites, artsy bohemians, sports jocks, gadget-collecting techies, or edgy gearheads. Take advantage of apartment life: form social networks to make new friends, advance their careers, or look for love. Build your Sim's new reputation meter: with a good reputation, your Sim can find the right friends to help them achieve their goals! Control multiple households: will you make your Sims live in happy harmony or comical conflict? http://thesims2.ea.com/about/ep8_index.php
DoctorK
I have found myself getting back into playing The Sims 2 recently because I have a new laptop that will run it pretty well, and I dip in when it gets quiet at work. I'm actually genuinely looking forward to this new expansion, the houses do tend to get a bit samey after a while. Bet they do a double pack to combine this and the IKEA Stuff pack.
