Is there an in-universe explanation for why all these old faces are turning up? I hoped they would do something whacky like have all of the characters realise they are in a show, and it's ending, and realising they are all going to blink out of existence, or something.

It's pretty simple in the Neighbours universe, almost all characters are related or in a relationship with one another so bringing characters back is quite straightforward, if anything the peculiarity is that some of these people have not visited their family in the last 20 odd years.

It's most rare for new characters to turn up/move in that do not have any connection to someone.

Honestly, I am actually preferring the 'straight' ending, which having not seen the show properly for over ten years, is people moving on (including, possibly, Toadfish!) and one final go around with 'Susan having to deal with Karl sleeping with his secretaries…but now one is doing her son'

Fuck me, that's Jane!

Edit: who is the old friend of Toadie's that arrived today? Someone from the huge expanse of time where I never watched or even thought about Neighbours (pretty much any time from 1995 or so to now) but I kind of recognise him.

I thought I'd start watching this today just to see it off. I've not tuned in since about 2005. I've no idea who anyone is apart from Paul Robinson. All I really gathered was that a bunch of people were leaving for New York, some people were gay and some wrinkly guy who was presumably in it 30 years ago named his car 'Bouncer'. He hooked up with the woman who once bonked Dr. Kennedy (I think?). All pretty confusing. Are the cameos going to start appearing thick and fast before the end?

They've been happening all week! It's also still full of characters who were in it years ago. Harold, Toadie, Susan and Karl etc!

Oh right, ok. I only noticed Karl Kennedy and Paul Robinson. I should have probably paid more attention. For some reason I thought Harold must've died. I mean properly, not that bizarre lost at sea thing they pulled in the early '90s.

Did they ever explain what happened to that Irish lad that might have been murdered by that serial killer?  I think in real life his visa ran out or something (or was that a plot in the show?), it was never explained and I resented it strongly.

Connor.

Haha that is one of the most bizarre things they have done. Completely left hanging.

His wallet was found somewhere in Asia.

Then maybe 10 years ago? He turned up and was 'shit you thought i was dead, i just went to do some more travelling and lost my wallet'

Despite the last scene he was in was him figuring out Pauls son was the murdering one and not the none-murdering twin or similar.

Him and Toadie were.really good mates at the time.

Paul's son ... He was the blonde haired one who was just in a flashback in today's episode, where Joel came out as gay to him, right? I didn't really watch it when he was in it, but did he turn out to be a murderer?

Shane? He was in it right at the start I think ... He had left by the time I started watching it (about a year in, when Scott and Charlene were the main attraction). But they always spoke about him and he turned up to say hello now and again. I think he was pretty much the first "heart throb" before Jason came along.

The blonde haired one was the weirdly sort of Scottish Andrew, who Chris Pappas confessed his love for.

Chris has turned up (hairy guy-gets referred to as freckles by Paul) with some kid (can't remember if the kid was conceived on show).

The murdering sons were two different Paul offspring. Actually triplets.

The boys Rob and Cam.  Cam got murdered by Rob.  Rob is still in jail and has made a few appearances in recent years.

Harlow (played by a Donovan) turned up as a child of his to add to the active Robinson clan in recent years.

When are they going to resolve the Connor storyline?

They kind of did resolve the conor thing, they found his wallet, then I think conor sent toadie a present from china or something. Crap isn't it?

I don't watch this anymore. I miss the glory days as displayed by the above post.

I didn't think the st patricks day gifts and things were a proper resolution though.

He did just disappear right after he discovered (Robert was the evil twin) or something along those lines.

I did wonder whether they might find something relating to him, or to the evil twin.

Yeah Connor found out he was the evil twin cos he was an private investigator at that point. -_- i think when it appeared Robert had "took care" of Connor, they ended the show with a long shot on a tree that had just been planted with some irish sounding name to it.

I think. :(

Donna is so much hotter than the rest of them its untrue. In real life the blokes would be lining up down the street to take her out.

Spoiler

Not sure about Anne, but Billy makes a video appearance (as does Margot Robbie!)

Guy Pearce goes all in, though - the final episode is somewhat built around his return to the street.

It's a sweet goodbye, nothing at all like the amazing "crash, burn, and salt the earth" finality of Brookside:

My hope for the last episode is everyone playing cricket in the street.

Susan and Karl come out carrying the blue box for some reason then 1 of them stumbles spilling the depraved contents of the blue box for all to see. End.

Not yet but I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I want Lance to visit too!

Didn't Lance do some sci-fi themed 12 labour's of hercules to get some girl?

When Skye Mangle ( Sptephanie Mcintosh) came back I was stoked, she was gorgeous and pretty good Kelly Clakson type singer. They did a daft Ghost World type thing too

Any sign of Billy and Anne?

(The Millennials Jason and Kylie)

I always wanted Billy and Anne together, but the way they got together was weird.

Quote

Billy and Anne discuss the walk and he tries to compliment her but she reacts negatively, so he asks that she ignore what he said yesterday since they aren't meant to be together and instead be friends. Anne agrees to that and they decide to go and work out a plan on foot.

Anne knocks back Billy's plan for the walk to go over a fence! As they jump down, Anne lands awkwardly and is having trouble walking so Billy does the gentlemanly thing and helps her home.

Billy helps Anne get safely home and suggests she massage the foot to prevent it seizing up. Anne thinks it is a good idea and Billy proceeds to give her foot the massage, which she is really enjoying.

Billy's massage is so good Anne has fallen asleep. Being the nice gentleman, he goes and gets a blanket to put over her and takes the opportunity to give her a peck on the cheek too before leaving. When he leaves, Anne opens her eyes and has a smile on her face

Recap

- Billy kissing Anne when she was sleeping

Finally she confesses to her mum that Billy kissed her and that she was awake, just pretending to sleep and would like it if they could be more than friends now.

Libby is struggling to understand Billy cheating on Anne especially after he's kissed her, so Anne is forced to say that Billy doesn't know that she felt him kissing her because she was supposed to be asleep. Lib urges her to come clean with Billy but Anne doesn't know how to broach the subject.

Libby mentions to him her chat with Anne and the bit about Anne being awake when he kissed her. Billy looks mortified because he thinks it makes him look like a sleaze but Libby is quick to reassure him that Anne thought it was cute

Anne and Billy make small talk about Mal before getting round to finishing off what they were talking about before Toadie interrupted them. Billy would like them to carry off and Anne gives her blessing, so they lean in for a pash. Aww.

Abridged from:

http://www.neighboursepisodes.com/index.php?year=1997&episode=2806

Anne comes out of relationship, rejects Billy’s advance.  Injures self.

Billy helps her home, she falls asleep on sofa (but is actually awake).

Billy kisses her while he thinks she is asleep they fall in love and live happily ever after.

Do I need to kiss all the girls that have ever rejected me while they are asleep (or pretending to be - how they I even gauge this), in case actually we were meant to be together?

I think channel 5 should start showing it from the start again after the final episode airs. I mean, it's not like the format has changed, since the 80s, so you can't say it's aged (apart from the clothes and hair). And it would be 40 years of basically free programming for them probably. I'm sure there's a big enough nostalgia-seeking audience that it would get at least as many viewers as the average crappy programme on that channel gets.

Depends if they’ve got the rights to the early stuff. Back in the day it was shown on bbc1 at lunchtime.
