The Neighbours Thread

I've found the last two episodes of neighbours genuinely upsetting. I'm not sure when the guy who plays Declan got good at acting (at least by neighbours' standard), but he's been fairly convincing, which has made the whole thing borderline believeable!

I really dislike this whole storyline. It's fucking horrible :P

Yeah most people on other forums hate didge (probably here too) and were counting down the days till she died. I dont like how neighbours drags out a characters death, its happened a few times.

anyway yeah i wondered what would happen to them after she died (cos i know steve and miranda were leaving) but they could have waited a week or two before deciding to move? surely having the good memorys of her in erinsborough is enough?

anyway yeah it was a sad storyline, but it wasnt as good as belles death (H&A), who was a better character really. Also whats with the two characters dieing the same day pretty much?

FIVE need to get rid of that advertising shit, and then shoot that fucking idiot Wright.
I know. I never thought we see the day when that crap started to creep over from the US, but have now seen it on Virgin 1 and Five. It's sad sad times we're living in.

Fucking hell, that was even worse! :eyebrows:

Bloody advert for that Flash Forward, some 24 stylee split-screen action, shrunk H&A down on one side and had a clip of FF on t'other side.

Stop that shit Five, please!

Fuckin hell, the Summer Bay cops were a bit slack there! Angelo and the other cop who was outside just let some chap wander straight up to Hugo outside the station, pull out a gun and shoot him, then run back to his car and drive off completely unchallenged :)

Didn't think he was actually going to be one of the people smugglers though. Poor Martha :(

I almost watch Neighbours with my hands over my eyes these days. It is just awful. I used to think Rebecca was quite the milf, but she looks twenty years older since she chopped her hair off.

Paul's new son is a dreadful actor and keeps slipping into his native Scottish accent which sounds plain weird. And Harry is too emo. Donna is still a babe, but they have made her too annoying to like anymore. I assume from the lack of posts here that no one watches these days?

i do, but its come to the stage where its like a drug. Its just got a bit shit lately but ive been watching it for so many years I can't wean myself of it.

There are rumors its going to be cancelled but im not sure if i believe that. The current producer is awful.

I really hated what they did with susans character during the libby/dan/baby thing. They made her out to be a bitter old bitch!! The old susan was never like that.

Haha I was just thinking about this thread the other day. It really is horrendous at the moment but I can't stop watching it. There's just so many annoying characters, even the previously likeable ones have started to act like complete idiots (Declan, Dan, even Karl & Susan), and they just re-tread the same stories over and over. And they seem to be reducing the actual amount of new material on the show all the time - there's 'this week on Neighbours', 'previously on Neighbours', 'tomorrow on Neighbours', and add this to the stupid ideas like 24-style split-screen shit, flashbacks which the viewer never saw in the first place and inner monologues means it's shit beyond belief compared to even 3 or 4 years ago. And I want to kerb Lyn Scully more each and every day.

I was wondering about Paul's kid's accent actually, it does sound really odd! How they thought he was a good choice I'll never know.

So that was a surprise just now.... Paul shouting "Declan....Declan" and someone completely different is playing Declan now!

Apparently the lad playing Declan wanted to leave the show, so he has been recast. I don't get how Aussie soaps are so comfortable doing that, as inevitably the character changes completely.

ah he has changed now? yeah i dont really like that happening. The actor/actress makes the part their own and then its completly changed.

I don't mind so much when the character has been out for a few years - ie Summer. She is nothing like the original Summer really, but she is likeable enough.

Yeah Summer is pretty good I think. As you say, after a long break it's fine. Trouble is this new guy doesn't seem to be a particularly good actor either. It is supposedly his first major role, and it shows.

I stopped watching H&A and Neighbours a couple years ago after watching both for 20+ years. I thought i'd really miss them, but i don't.. i still catch little bits of neighbours when i pop round my mums but it seems pretty crappy nowadays (to be honest, it probably has been a bit crappy for several years now)

It's even weirder when they just change the actor for a few weeks because the original is ill or something. Just send the character on holiday!

They only do that when the character has a major storyline though - like when libby was replaced ( on a cliff hanger episode!) be a bit weird to say she took a holiday.

The original declan was better and it didn't help the replacement looked nothing like him either!

This is not that much of a surprise. I remember a long, long time ago, probably the 80s - there was a big fanfare about Eastenders introducing it's first ethnic family. This is great, reflecting society, progress etc. A journo (probably Smash Hits or Look In, that I would have been reading at the time) asked Neighbours if they were going to do anything about the fact the show was always 100 percent white. "No" was basically the answer.

It's probably the same people running the show over there now. I think an aboriginal character did eventually start popping up from time to time? And then of course the obligatory beautiful young Chinese woman (the acceptable face of racial diversity in Australia, from what I can tell!)

Haven't watched or thought about Neighbours for 20 years probably, but when this story popped up on my news feed it sent me off on a journey of discovery about what they've been up to for the past few decades. Karl, Susan and Toadie are still there, and even "Plain Jane", Mrs Angel's niece (I think) who was there around the same time as Scott and Charlene, has reappeared, apparently!
