Consolevania Type 4

I agree with everyone. The best yet. I would list all the good bits, but it would take too long.

So in the spirit of the Riddick review, these are the bad bits:

The Gacy script wasn't as good as last episode's. It needed more stumbling and upsets.

The sound levels varied a bit too much, with the first review in particular being very quiet.

The screen-filming of reviews was more flickery than ever. If you ever get the funds, it might be worth looking at filming the games runing on a VGA monitor; it'd eliminate the flicker and give a better picture as well.

Erm, that's it.

copyright issues

I thought copyright didn't apply in the case of footage used for critical evaluation purposes? I always remember that from when Warner Brothers tried to bollock Channel 4 for showing clips from A Clockwork Orange on a documentary about the film.

You're usually allowed to copy (parts of) people's work to do reviews and stuff like that, called 'quoting':

Uses That Are Generally Fair Uses

Subject to some general limitations discussed later in this article, the following types of uses are usually deemed fair uses:

- Criticism and comment -- for example, quoting or excerpting a work in a review or criticism for purposes of illustration or comment.

- News reporting -- for example, summarizing an address or article, with brief quotations, in a news report.

- Research and scholarship -- for example, quoting a short passage in a scholarly, scientific, or technical work for illustration or clarification of the author's observations.

- Nonprofit educational uses -- for example, photocopying of limited portions of written works by teachers for classroom use.

- Parody -- that is, a work that ridicules another, usually well-known, work by imitating it in a comic way.

In most other situations, copying is not legally a fair use. Without an author's permission, such a use violates the author's copyright.

In case of Consolevania's reviews, I think showing snippets of the game from direct-feed is perfectly acceptable and legal. To be in the safe zone you could even add acknowledgements in the credits or after the review ('Video taken from 'Chronicles of Riddick'.© 2004 Vivendi Universal / Starbreeze / Tigon')

After all the hype, this was my first delve into Consolevania... Pretty poor stuff.

Why?

Direct feed footage people! Have you heard of this concept?

Lame ass 'comedy' sketches - embarassing.

Oh, let's swear alot during reviews and it'll flesh them out... honest.

Thank Christ I only downloaded the 200MB version.

Excellent episode guys.

A bit dissapointed with the fairly negative Riddick review but on the whole I thought it was a very balanced issue with good mix of reviews and hilarious comedy sketches.

But the dude was right, wrestling is a bit g4yy1!!!1!

I live in Glasgow. Here cunt is a term of endearment.

And parents DO NOT SWEAR EVER.

It's a show for adults. Most adults swear a lot. Show= realistic.

Parents NEVER swear? - You've obviously never heard my mother then...

I swear far too much I'll admit but to make a show 'adult' does not mean that you have to swear.

Truly awesome guys! Best ever! Shigsy bit was hillarious. Kenny was great, Goro part was fantastic! I'd go on but I can't be arsed and this post would end up as a giant piece of dibble filled with words like w00t, bloody good and shwah - shit, it already is.

Meh.

Looking forward to CV5 The Musical! :D

I agree with most. Thought it was the best so far. Legend and Shigsy = best comedy bits from all shows. I liked the outtakes at the end and appreciated the music listing after the credits. I was wondering about a few of the tracks you'd used.

Thanks. Keep up the good work.

That was good! It's clear that you thought-out the comedy more, which works. Good reviews, but ignore these people saying to ban the comedy : It works, and can/could be more hilarious: Just take your time to fully write them out. ad lib is aces, but give yourself some guidelines even for that.

I have to admit I cycle past leged, I find it too cringe-worthy, but aces on the Legendary Theme.

For those that say wrestling games are repetitive and shit: Go grab that new one on the GameCube. My girlfriend's brother introduced it to me, and it's OMG fun. Do silly moves, hit each other, then pin until he's out. Then even when you're out you can interfere with the match, or grab the referee and throw him out the ring so you can get back in and piss off your girlfriend who was about to pin the CPU. Great stuff.

All in all:

A big fat  from moi and the missus, guys.

Reviews were great, tap-tap was a nice little surprise again, girls are always a bonus (even if slightly Gacyfied), Legend was double top - nice to see him back, but most of all the soundtrack seems to elevate the 'programme' to new heights, some great choices. Congratulations.

That was fucking magnificent, and I don't mean it in a gay way either. Loved the Mortal Kombat and John Gacy sketches in particular, and I'll definitely be checking out Michigan after seeing your review. Brilliant stuff, I want the other episodes now and thanks again to Soong for hosting it.
