'official Outrun 2 Thread'

Corrected.

Not really. The counter is heavily reduced by the time you get to the third stage (usually, a clean run leaves you with at least 75, if not over 80 seconds on the clock) so you'll be running close to the wire - around ten, I guess - by the time you reach the 'goal' at the end of Castle Wall.

Don't correct a man who's got a finished version of Xbox OutRun 2, matey. :)

my tele is crap, but i was just wondering if the xbox version of outrun 2 was significantly lower in resolution than the arcade?

what i mean is if you connected it up to a progressive scan 42 inch plasma - would it look lower res than the coin - op monitor?

on my tv it looks quite smuged and not the beauty i remember playing (even through RGB), but most of my games do....:)

Yes it is a lower res. TBH it was the first thing I noticed upon playing it.

It doesn't bother me one bit though. The whole package more than makes up for it.

Looks great on my RGB output on my 10 year old TV.

Picked up my copy of the demo this morning before work. A 12-hour shift and some mulling around later and I've finally gotten a chance to play the demo.

Having never played the original I was intrigued to see what all the fuss was about, but no less excited about the prospect of a fantastic Sega racer on Xbox Live.

Being honest, I was a little disappointed at how limited the demo seems in single player, though the demo itself has served its purpose well. I'm eager to test this out on Live as that is obviously where the real attraction lies.

I guess between this, Burnout 3 and PGR2 the Xbox really has the racing genre sewn up, in my opinion. Time to order an Xbox Live starter kit then.

Oh, and does anybody know for sure if this is going to be October 1st (as GAME state) or October 29th as every other retailer seems to think? Personally I could do with it being the 29th - what with Star Ocean 3 due on the 1st, not to mention the other four games I simpy have to buy this October. What a busy time of year for my wallet.

i find it a bit wierd that no magazines have picked up on the much lower res (unless it really is just my telly) - when edge for example previewed sumo's conversion attempt a few months ago. they cited no noticable difference when the games were running next to one another.

the game is great no question, but i find the arguement that a PS 2 would struggle with the game conversion, hard to swallow.

the res is as high as any other xbox game, is why. it's just that the AA is dodgy (a la PGR - and everyone hates PGR for that, right?).

and if anyone produced this level of performance from the PS2, it would be an amazing technical feat - no-one has done it yet and no-one probably ever will. so said argument stands up very strongly to all but PS leaners.

I hate to mention it again (especially when talking about Outrun 2) but.... Burnout 3?

try again. the BO games push a reasonable amount of low-detail stuff around and no more. BO3 would have to be a massive leap (especially for the PS2) to look anywhere near as good as OR2.

if Sega could've released the game on the PS2, don't you think they would've chosen that far more lucrative route?

I cannot possibly comment on the graphical differences between Outrun 2 and Burnout 3 until I actually purchase the latter on Friday. No amount of EA promo video downloads and hi-res IGN videos will sway me until I see it on my own TV screen.

However, I am just thankful that Outrun 2 has been granted a release by Sega Europe and, more importantly, they had the foresight and balls to allow Sumo Digital exclusive programming rights. The result has been, for me at least, the biggest surprise from any company within this industry in the past 5 years.

Sumo's dip into the videogame waters has undoubtedly assured them a rosy future in the field. Oh, and Sega, if you have any sense you'll snap these guys up before EA do! <_<

Congratulations Sumo/Sega for making my year. :)

hey, have u checked out the moonwalking bloke with the chequered flag! just sit on the start line.

Nice one sega kid! That's bloody great!

I haven't read the whole thread but has it been mentioned that a torrent of the Outrun 2 demo is on ?

Most people are playing online more than off. So I guess the disc has been bought by most.

Could be a help to some though.

But I don't think you can (by law of the mod) link to such things to be honest.

Sorry a little of topic, got back from GS having compared the two (I know i shouldn't but you know these things happen) I came away much more impressed with Burnout graphically. From someone who had no interest in BO3, being blown away when played says something about the game. Online was just so much fun, even better than halo 2. Not to say Outrun didn't look good just seemed to be overshadowed which this game does not deserve

If we go by your theory, it means that we should never play Eyetoy in the same session as any other game, as they wouldn't even share the same controller.

But yeah I see your point. It's just getting used to a game and then letting the instinct of it overcome you when you play another. In Rainbow Six 3: BA I'm always pressing the L trigger to throw a grenade (Halo style) when its really mapped to X (I think)

Burnout 3 doesn't have the distance rendered in Outrun 2, but (based purely on the demo of the later) seems a more frantic experience.

[ I'm, quite frankly, stunned by the former - whereas the single player demo of the former isn't doing anything for me ].
