'official Outrun 2 Thread'

"Numerous web sites have stated that the TWO bonus tracks are simply called bonus track 1 and bonus track 2 (which I've both played on). SEGA itself confirmed that there were only these two tracks, but apparently it's now had a change of heart and there are additional tracks which are a mega secret and can't be unlocked with the code that unlocks all the bonus tracks.

How strange..."

are these rumors of super secret tracks beyond daytona 2 and scud race true????

it will be wonderful whatever, but the news keeps getting better and better.

IGN, yet again making me question my idiocy for subscribing to their service -

If Outrun 2 has any real concern it's for the God-awful soundtrack. Featuring remixes of the God-awful elevator pop from the original, there is -- at least in the preview build -- no option for custom soundtracks. Anyone who's followed Sega games for a long time already knows what to expect. It's really the bane of Sega games, this cloud 9 rock junk. As much as I hate it, I am also equally addicted to the horror. Why must I love you "Magical Sound Shower" and "Shiny World?"

What!? The music is fabulous! Idiots...

OK, well at least they'll upload some tasty direct feed footage...

Outrun 2 is coming to Xbox later this fall. We'll have more as soon as we can. Until then, enjoy some new screens. We can't offer you movies, as we'd be forced to make you endure the music, and that's just not something any of the IGN editors could live with.

:lol::lol::D:D

Full preview article if you're interested.

According to the official site, it's not even penciled in for a Japanese release yet.

That's odd. Why commision a release on Xbox (of all systems) of a game and potentially not release it in your home territory, when you refuse to create a PAL version of one of your best games, that already exists (that's Initial D, folks)? Especially when it's on the leading system, surely it would stand to make them more money? It boggles the mind.

I know... but as part of the group that let slip about the two bonus tracks in the first place, I'm afraid I'm not saying anything more. Needless to say though, I'll be laughing in the style of an evil genius (complete with rubbing of hands) when the 'truth' is revealed.

If only because it'll make us look even better. :P

Likely a rights issue.

Remember, it's Sega Europe that's funded the development of Xbox OutRun 2. They hold the rights and thusly will sell the game to the highest bidder. In the case of the US it was Microsoft picking up the rights rather than Sega of America. But will Sega Japan licence the game for their territory? Is the potential profit of the game higher than the money that Sega Europe are asking? Do Sega Japan have their own version of OutRun 2 (for a next generation platform) up their sleeve and thusly have no intention of releasing the game for a dead format?

It seems absurd if you think of Sega as a whole, but that's likely the stumbling block that's stopping Japanese Xbox owners from getting their hands on OutRun 2.

Hasn't this already been confirmed for a Japanese release. I'm sure I read the Microsoft Japan had picked it up for a November release. I think I read it on Magicboc. I'll try and find it.

I was extremely disappointed with the Bonus track video. The track layout just doesn't fit the Outrun feel. It has too many extreme corners and alleys. Outrun is about the thrill of the open road after all.

:P

I would have preferred some of the original game tracks instead... Hey ho. Maybe they'll grow on me in time.

Oh, and Sumo better have included the original game in there somewhere... This game is in danger of becoming a Super Smash Sega Racers Melee. I fear that all the extras will be dedicated to past Sega racers and not Outrun.

I hope to Christ I'm wrong.

:P I thought it looked like it's got potential for some really exciting races.

Oh well...

So, it's finished downloading. At the start, I was like, "I spent the best part of an hour downloading THIS?", but it gets rather nice towards the end. I've always loved the tracks through the countryside, and he pulls off some great drifts towards the end.

So, when's this out?

That date isn't confirmed.

Cheers for the confirmation on Japanese release. Surprised Microsoft aren't crowing about that from the rooftops, although I'm sure they're happier pushing those three FPS games that no-one wants...

Really? I had no idea the game was being funded by Sega Europe (much less they had license to do that sort of thing). That makes more sense I suppose... I just like to moan about not getting Initial D :P

I played Outrun 2 at the arcades for the first time today.

Not quite as overwhelmed as I expected to be (graphics were 'meh' and it started a bit slow), but seeing as I only had 2 quid I couldn't really get a feel for it straight away. It did start to get going nicely when I was on my last few seconds, though.

And the power-sliding was super-fun... just need more practice. This is gonna be so good. B)
