The joy and the pain.

The joy: I've waited years for a true sequel to Outrun and Outrun 2 in the arcade made me smile all over when I played it, and now a good home conversion is all but in my hands (roll on Friday).

The pain: I'm moving house in a couple of weeks and the chance of getting any gaming dine in the next month is doubtful. :P

I just Outrun from work today. Erm..i cant stand it. Its slow, the drifting is dire (it just sends you off the road), the music is twee, the engine sounds like a wasps fart.

I cant believe it. After World of Stu's review aswell. Burnout 3 feels like another console generation better. Blimy.

Sorry author of game..not your fault..Segas duff arcade game. :P

keep playing till you learn how to drift. it's not that hard.

You see the round thing on the left side of the control pad, Place your thumb on it and move it in conjunction with the curve of the track and drift around the corner.

Im sorry you managed to buy a game that requires some ability, Luckily you've found Burnout 3 as you say.

slow? no. "BO3, and it being faster than even F-Zero games" may be your point of reference here, I fear.

drifting off the road? never, unless you're shit.

music twee? taste I suppose, but it's definitely better than the default BO1 or 2 soundtracks.

engine? sound fucking meaty as hell in my room.

BO3 a console generation better? if better games are far less playable ones with a 'more is better, yes?' design ethic, then maybe. but, in actual fact, quite simply, no.

It feels like an old model 2 racer with added draw distance. I know bo3 is fzero gx in cars but im used to the speed rush now. The drifting looks silly too..car at 90 degree angle to road at 160kph?

it's not meant to be realistic. just seriously OTT!

BO3 looks just as ridiculous with the cars doing 450MPh (at least) anyway.

I'm not intending to be a good game hating troll. Maybe its a better game with a bolted down arcade wheel and the music blaring in your ears at the seafront. Debating keeping or swapping for Psi Ops. To be fair it only cost me 20 quid new from work.

Just dissapointed thats all. Normally dont mind wafer thin games but O2 is turn left turn right drive straight.

Whats with the straight out of scooby doo skidding sound effect? Why do mountains rise out of the ground in the stage transition areas..it looks mental. Why do the other vehicles go around like a procession - and look as much like moving vehicles as cardboard boxes. Why does the woman make a wanking gesture while im perfoming a drift? Why are the transition stages so long?

The Pyramid stage was great though.

ah come on, how can you not love that. when the sun flies across your car and it changes to night or a whole city magically folds into existance i get a huge smile on my face.

Well, I found it a bit cheap as well. Gee I'm racing through this tunnel-like non-descript area, and the sky is being reset and the scenery is built up. A fancy and quirky way to hide the 'loading' bar, but it's far from seamless. Makes you remember you're playing a game.

Question for the Sumo chap who was posting here earlier:

Why did you decide to go with the original 'chop-job' Testarossa spyder as opposed to the hideous, mortifying, downright ug-fuck, slanty ass grill motherfucker?

Silly question I know, but I'm just looking for reasons why I should be pledging my undying love to you.

yeah driving sideways at 170mph like i do in real life never reminds me i'm in a game, or the fact i'm not using a steering wheel to drive, oh and the wind isn't making any noise as it flys past my face.

it's not like the scenary is popping up like in a PSone game is it. it's being built up.

i never got to play the arcade game so i don't know if it's the same in that but if it is then it's AM2s fault and i think they know a wee bit more about what makes good game design than us lot.
