Judge Dredd

I wonder if we'll ever see the Chief's face. Up to the point I stopped reading 2000ad, some considerable time ago, Dredd's face had never been shown. It was a point of frustration in my younger days but as time went on, I felt it was the right thing to do. I quite enjoyed the movie, honest but I wish stallone hadn't been so vain as to show his face. Anyway, Dredd was bald.

I guess graphics technology almost makes the point of seeing John's face pointless, having said that, the character in the Pitch Black game is recognisably Vin Diesel. I can't help wondering what John looks like. It's been a while since I read the books but I wonder if it's possible that he could remove his armour. How about game levels sans armour?

I'd welcome the shock factor of seeing the chief in this way. As a character I think he's pretty cool but am I alone in thinking Clint Eastwood? Probably not.

Dredd is bald? What makes you think so? I haven't read it in years so maybe there was a revalation but Rico had hair and He and Dredd are clones of the 1st Chief Judge.

Spill the beans, dood.

And he has weird eyes. Although I think that his full face still hasn't been seen in 2000AD, his mask has been removed a couple of times to reveal him in silhouette or the like.

His eyes are cybernetic implants, he lost his real ones after the Judge Child ripped them out in a journey to the future. :)

As scruffycat says his face was 'sort of' revealed when he took the long walk, during which Nausea and Phobia disfigure him severely, so you could argue you never saw his actual, normal face.

Bungie are obviously trying to create a similar 'trademark' with the Master Chief never taking of his helmet, it's a nice homage and I don't think they should change it.

Yes. However, no-one apart from Dr. Halsey and the few remaining Spartans know this; to everyone else he's Master Chief Petty Officer SPARTAN-117.

Now I'm getting confused between Sylvester Stallone, John the Spartan, and John Spartan, Sylvester Stallone's character in Demolition Man.

What's that you say? And Cortana was really Judge Anderson, played by Wesley Snipes in a dress? Crikey.

Well, I'm of the opinion that whenever Carlos Esquerra drew Dredd, I always noticed the striking resemblance to one of the other characters he drew, namely: Johnny Alpha (Strontium Dog, fact fans!!!).

Admittedly, it was only the chin we saw on Dredd, but it was a chin that Johnny had too.

Come to think of it, all of Esquerra's blokes have the same chin...

Hmm.

Anyway, when Dredd was created, he was always intended to be a mix of Clint Eastwood and Stallone.

So there we go.

Considering Stallone fucked up royally in the role, it would be brilliant to see Eastwood in the role - at those points when Dredd was getting all depressed about things.

Lovely.

Dredd was bald, I recall seeing an image of him from behind, sans helmet. I read 2000ad from issue 1 right up to, erm, 700 odd, I think...

Rico had hair, yes.

  • 2 weeks later...

When i was playing through Halo i always thought that the chief may turn out to actually be half Covenant Elite for some reason, I think it was the similarities in shields and maybe armour, and they never show you his face plus the fact that the Covies seem to know him quite well.

I havent read any of the books that no doubt debunk all that of course.

He was kidnapped as a, (human), child and replaced with an inferior and likely to be short-lived clone. Now you've got me thinking...Take a look at the pic at the bottom of the latest weekly update. What if the covies discovered John's clone and genetically enhanced him into an evil master-chief?

An evil clone...more shades of Dredd.
