Burnout 3

Yep, I was looking at the Takedown awards and thinking that. 1500 takedowns? 40 takedowns in a race? Bleedin hell.

40 takedowns in a road rage isn't too hard - just do one from the single event mode and there's no time limit. My highest is 61.

16 takedowns in a race is trickier.

It's easier than you might think. The trick is not to use your boost to get out in front, just try to stay part of the pack and only use your boost when you need a quick burst of speed to shunt somebody into traffic or a wall. You may not win the race this way, but that doesn't matter.

My housemate got that one while still on the compact series, the bastard.

Well yeah, thats the strategy I used too.

Wasn't that hard, especially on a longer track - 2 laps of Tropical Drive is enough.

I'm on 99% now and have Golds on everything! Nice credits...

Managed to do the Hotrod preview lap with about a second and a half to spare. And the last GP was well easy, IMO.

Just gotta get about 6 signature takedowns and 3 Takedown trophies and i'll have 100%.

It has been mentioned, and I would guess it was either memory limitations or getting it to work with the online game, or overcoming either of the first two in time for the release that scuppered it.

It's a pity really. In Burnout you could watch replays and save your best crashes, in Burnout 2 you could no longer save the crashes, in Burnout 3 you can't even watch the replays. :)

So Critereon, if you do another Burnout game give us replays, and let us save best crashes please. I've had a couple of lovely triple aftertouch takedowns that I wish I could have shown my housemate.

In fact a full crash director mode where I could choose camera angles and stuff would probably secure my purchase even if you changed nothing else.

o/\o

There nothing like watching a good replay smash up. I mean, they even managed to show full race replays for the 2 player mode in Burnout 2 with the 2nd place player showing up in a little window. I can't see it being some memory limitation, surely.

You can watch crash replays. Just press B after you've finished the crash on the Continue/Retry screen.

Yes, you can replay crashes from crash mode. What the orignal Burnout (which didn't have a separate crash mode) let you do was watch any of your crashes from a race and save them to card/disc, Burnout 2 removed this feature and 3 has removed race replays completely.

Yeah, but I want full race replays. And the crash replay isn't as good as the one in BO2 either. The one in BO2 would randomise the cameras if you left it running over and over. This one just does exactly what you watch when playing it. It's a small, but annoying, ommision from a cracking game.

I dont like the crash replay at all, the camera follows your car meaning all you see most of the time is your car while everything crashes outside of the screen, if your lucky, sometimes the camera will move.

Exactly. I want to see from a long view, put the camera where I want it etc etc. It's such a great mode and the aim is to cause as much carnage as possible that it seems a real shame not to be able to revel in it as much as possible.

It wouldnt be so bad if Burnout 2 didnt do it perfectly, following the action of crashes.

What also spoils it is the speed of crashs, if you dont use after touch they happen in real time i want to see it all in slow mo egging on a coach to smash into another as the timer runs down.

I never use replays in racing games anyway, so it never really occured to me as a problem. But obviously some people must watch replays.

I like to watch my replays to see what the drive looked like from a 3rd person perspective because fundamentally all racing games should be played from the in car view preferably with a dashboardand and windscreen.

I bet you play out car.

RE Burnouts lack of race replays - this game was shoved out the door as soon as possible. No time for endless replay testing, crossed off the schedule with the online testing. It was good enough. If they put 2 racing games out together the consumer might only buy one of them. Corporate whoring of the marketplace etc etc....

well I did unlock the super dominator car after making sure I took him down everytime I saw him and drove carefully.

But the gran prix with the indy cars is bloody impossible, they are absolute nutters!

They're right bastards arent they?! Its the first time in the game where I've felt the difficulty level pinch, though it doesnt help that the tracks are really long , and once you crash you're pretty much fucked.

You mean, it's got too hard for you?

Wuss!

Not really, I got within 1 second of the gold with the Hotrod on my second go, I just can't be bothered now replaying everything until I get it "just right" when I don't think there'll be much of a reward round the corner. I'll probably do it just to be completist, but be aware that I barely exceed 10 hours play on *any* game, so for Burnout 3 to hold my attention for 15 is pretty incredible.
