Interested in Aliens vs. Predator?

http://movies.yahoo.com/movies/feature/alienvspredator.html

Click on the link to watch a couple of minutes of footage showing 2 of the greatest sci-fi characters scrapping it. Notice how the Predator has been eating a few pork pies and does the least convincing 'jumping to his feet' bit ever.

Fans of slow-mo, CG and "whoot" moments will be in heaven.

Not my bag... but I am an incredibly bitter Aliens fanboy.

Terrible, the porky Predator was bad enough but the action was too slow, too deliberate, while Predators may fight with such calculation Aliens sure as hell don't.

Plus the less said about the cringe-worthy 'finishing move' which would be better suited to WWF the better.

I thought it looked pretty good. :P

My prediction, is that this movie will probably be terrible, but worth watching for the cheesy fight scenes. Or something.

So it's out next Friday in the states? Definitely worth a download at least. :P

:P I like the way the alien squares off against the Predator at one point, waiting for an announcer to shout, "Round Two, Fight!"

Although the film will undoubtedly be awful, it is quite amazing to see those two baddies smacking each other up in a fully realised, non-comic book, non-videogame sequence.

I don’t mind a dumb cheesy action movie when the subject matter suits it, but the Alien and Predator were not dumb cheesy characters. They were dark, adult, scary and cool. Sadly I can’t watch that fight scene without thinking of the WWF.

And I wish the bloody alien would stop screaming! It’s like the sound effects guy suddenly discovered a sound file of it and has linked it to a big red button in his office.

The bit where the alien jumps onto the Predator (yet again) and just sits patiently for the next cue is RUBBISH.

And to cap it all off, it’s confirmed as a PG-13. :P

ridiculous. slow motion has no place in the alien franchise.

and aliens should not fight like that. in the other films the aliens swarm, scuttle, launch at enemies without hesitation because they are like ants or something. they don't 'square off' against people and they certainly don't know special moves like the tail sweep!

many aliens vs 1 predator maybe, but this?

see alien vs Vasquez in the air duct in aliens. up close and very clumsy, with only a pistol ending the alien's desperate scraping.

Awful, awful, awful. I said this was going to be wank in the other AVP thread, and I was right. Slo-mo? Fuck off. Wrestling moves? Fuck off. Too much Dry Ice? Fuck off.

Just to clarify, though: the Predator is far superior to an individual Alien in terms of fighting ability. Not as fast and agile, but far stronger, more powerful, more intelligent and adaptive. The whole idea is that Aliens win by their ant-like disregard for personal safety and swarming in a hive dynamic, and the Preds fight swarms to prove their mettle. In a one-on-one, there's no contest.

BTW, I thought that Predators weren't affected by Alien acid? Can anyone remember from the comics? I was pretty sure this (normally major) advantage the Aliens have doesn't apply to Preds and the alloys in their weapons.

Looks like Paul Anderson has pissed all over that idea :)

Yep, pretty much shows the writers didn't do any research into the Aliens VS Predator comics. The Pred's weapons are acid-resistant, meaning if you totally immersed them in acid for a prolonged period they probably would melt ( you see steam rising off them when they get splashed in the comics, but they never warp ), but acid splashes are no problem.

As to acid not being a problem for the Predator themselves, it's certainly far less of a threat than for humans. Their skin is incredibly tough, almost like a callus, as was evident when Glover put several rounds into one in Predator2 with a hand cannon but it only caused surface damage.

Source material? We don' need no steeenkin' source material!

Its possible that this one on one fight is the result of the predators releasing a single alien for a predator to kick the shit out of, kinda like a (lame) warmup but as treble points out, this would be like arnie in his prime taking on a small, crippled child armed with a wet fish.

Anyway, this still looks total shit whatever the intention of this fight.

It does seem strange that they would fight them with weapons that they know are going to melt.

Presumably this is the first time they have fought or it's "traditonal" or they can't create an acid resistant blade?

Or maybe, as noted, it's just a load of crap?

I know what I vote for

The alien comics were bloody brilliant, they should have made a film that followed them v closely (the 6 parter , where they followed the action on earth from a space station- getting the odd disturbing transmission coming through)

Hi Gari :(

Yeah, I thought something like this was the case. The Preds are infinitely superior 'man-to-man' than Aliens. The interesting thing to explore, of course, is naturally how would the rigidly caste, honour-bound, Samurai-esque Preds deal with a mindless swarm of insects? I'm guessing there are no intelligent or exciting answers in this film, made as it is by an ignorant, talentless hack of epic proportions :)

That sounds good, what is that comic called? is it available in one volume?

In the comics, the Preds wear armour made out of Alien-hide, as to protect themselves from the acid blood.

All Anderson had to do was to get a shitload of aliens vs a tribe of predators and a confused squadron of colonial marines chucked in for good measure, on an Aliens-style planet, and Aliens vs Predator would've been the RADDEST movie ever made.

But no...

And the PG-13 rating just rubs salt into the wound.
