Layer Cake

But it's barely a role? But it's ages since I watched it, before I knew of Hardy. I'd have to watch it again. He's also in Black Hawk Down, a film I've somehow still not seen, but i always assumed it's a background role. Both well regarded films though but if it's just a really peripheral role I wouldn't say it counts as meaning much.

I don’t like Blade Runner, it’s all style with no substance. Blade Runner 2049 is miles better and Harrison Ford actually acts in it.

I thought the same when I watched them both for the first time a couple of years ago. Blade Runner is pretty tedious, cold and I found a lot of it dated/silly. Looks great still but that's about it. The sequel was much more engaging.

I like 2049 significantly more than the first film.

I wouldn't call Blade Runner all style. It's just that the substance it has isn't actually that engaging while you're watching it.

Maybe all style is a little harsh but I definitely find it's nowhere near as clever as it likes to think it is. I've seen virtually every cut there is (received that 5-disc workman's cut I think) several years back for Christmas) and it just doesn't do much for me. I'll probably get it on 4K eventually as 2049 bookends it so well but ultimately I just don't rate it.

I've only seen cinema and one of the not cinema cuts.  I was really excited for the latter prior to watching. Then bored as hell and feeling purchase remorse.

2049 would be a hugely improved film if they chopped off everything from the second the main guy goes into that hotel where Deckard is…it’s decent up to there, but everything that follows is tripe.

OK, so not so controversial after all? :)

Most of the dialogue is pretty over-written and stiff.

I think Bana does the bottled-up persona very well.

Casting Nick Nolte as himself is interesting.

Nice tank fight in the desert even though you can't actually rotate/swing an object heavier than you no matter how strong you are.

Some nice music by Elfman (Bana being transported to the underground base).

The first chaotic tranformation scene mostly in the dark with the Atlas Shrugged reference.

The scene where Hulk gets to be a hero and jumps on the fighter jet to prevent a crash seems to be ordered by Universal people?

In early Lee interviews he wanted Hulk to go naked after the transformation but sadly we didn't get that.

Ray Liotta sat next to Jennifer Lopez in a video on YouTube being asked questions was asked for an actor he thinks is overated and he said Clint Eastwood and now every time I watch him in a film (not often tbf) I'm questioning every line of dialogue he delivers.

In Cry Macho the characters aren't seeing the real him either given he's 92 years old and women are throwing themselves at him, and he's looked on as though he's 30 years younger, like when the kid looks up in awe when he tames a horse.

It was interesting watching In The Line Of Fire for the first time because he was 63 when that was released and a big part of the role is him being past it, someone whose time was when JFK was being assassinated, his ability to successfully flirt with Rene Russo not very believable.

I'm not saying he's overated, Ray Liotta said it.

All you need to do is watch 'Unforgiven' to see that Liotta was talking out of his arse.

I have. I can't remember much about it, I only watched it a few years ago as well. I know people rave about it. I think my expectations were very high. I do intend to give it another watch. I like Hackman and I like westerns. I've not properly seen any of Eastwood's 60s and 70s films.
