Transformers Live Action

I saw a TC of this last week. Decent image, not so great sound. My brief impressions:

It's good fun! Worth watching, but FUCKING silly at times. When he's in his room and his parents come in and the autobots are in the garden hiding? Trying not to make a sound, ducking behind the wall so his parents don't see them. That scene was like a terrible sitcom. And the whole Ebay thing. A decepticon shouts "ARE YOU EBAY MEMBER LADIESMAN1979?!" for Christ sake! "WE'RE LOOKING FOR EBAY ITEM NUMBER 23842!". Painful.

I don't like how the decepticons look either, and they remind me of something from another film but I can't think what. The autobots are all cool though.

Remember that there are preview screenings next weekend.

One of my mates says he has tickets for a Saturday or Sunday screening. I need to find out where they are showing it. Is there a list?

The Sunday Times were giving away 2 sets of free tickets last week at Tuesdays screenings up and down the country a few days before it opens officially.

Tv was shite last night and i was very bored so i decided to er, um, acquire a copy.

I loved it. Yeah, its a bit silly at times

especially the bit where they are hiding at the parents house

but it was never boring.

The effects are fantastic, slightly messy in a "cant make out whats going on" sort of way on a couple of occassions and not just cos i was watching a snidey copy.

I thought the

ebay references

were funny as well.

Caught this at the cinema last night and enjoyed it overall. The only problem I had with it was I really had to suspend disbelief at points as the story and central premise were so absurd. Having said that the action scenes and CGI were amazing, although some have just too much going on and as other people have mentioned have too many close ups. Also one other thing that pissed me off was that the Transformers moved so fast and were so detailed it was hard to make out what they hell they were doing half of the time. Compared to Bay’s other forays into Sci-Fi I would say it’s not as good as The Island, but better than Armageddon.

Watching it right now. Typical Michael Bay fast talking, pop culture referencing shite script. Not to mention the ridiculous American government bollocks. Really, really hurts my brain.

Thoroughly enjoying it though...

Mate, its a film about giant living robots that can transform into everday objects and vehicles invading earth looking for a big cube. What were you expecting? Shakespeare?

That bird in it was well fit.

And the Ebay bit was awsome.

great film.

I hated the ebay references, since about 1 or 2 years ago it seems to be the 'in' thing to instantly make your sitcom or film 'cool'. The ebay joke has been done in just about everything. Even Eastenders.

Saw this in the cinema last night, and although I enjoyed it, it really does suffer from Michael Bay-itis. By that I mean it seems like someone has taken every film cliche in the book and slapped them into one film. Someone needs to take him to one side, give him a good slap round the head and tell him that shooting an action sequence in soft focus with a bright light shining behind the camera in slow motion is seriously shite.

And the soldier that says 'All I want to do is get home and hold my baby daughter.'? Fuck off Bay!

Having said that, The Transformers bits are great and they look fantastic. Plus Shia Labeouf was excellent and was the only thing that made the human bit's watchable in my eyes. Oh and finally, the comedy in the film is like your dad wrote it. Unless your dad is a comedy writer.

I didn’t really know anything about Transformers before seeing the movie other than they were robots who transformed from Cars/Trucks etc. into robots. So although I wasn’t expecting Shakespeare, I wasn’t expecting aliens from another planet looking for a big cube!

When I said that I had suspend disbelief at points in the story I meant just that. For most of the film the plot held up (well almost), but when Bay laid on the cheese and Shia Labeouf got all emotional with the Transformers

shouting "I won’t leave you Bumblebee"

that’s when I was had to suspend disbelief.

Dont forget the American willy waving (ok do no American flags but every vehicle the transformers changed into were American) American military storyline and also the political undertones in the story. For me this is what kind of ruined the film and if they just concentrated on Shia Labouf´s character and his relationship with the autobots it could have been a potential classic, as it stands its just a VERY entertaining Hollywood action romp.

Posting during the film? "Needless to say i was on the internet within minutes, registering my disgust".

Needless to say, I was watching it on my computer.

I think he's a really good actor. You serious?

His acting in Disturbia was ace.

What the fuck? He's great, you div.

EDIT: What Phelan said.

Indeed, in fact after watching this I have more confidence that Indy 4 will turn out decent, if there is anyone that can pull off being Indy´s son it is this guy.

To be fair, I'm taking my opinion of his acting skills from Transformers and Constantine. So, I may be biased.

But he still ought to be ashamed of himself. As should you lot, to an extent. It was an entertaining film, but hardly worth any real credit.

On the way home from work this evening I passed the Savoy in Dublin where the premiere was on - had no idea it was tonight. Ducked in to look at the display in the lobby, recognised a guy I half-know who's in film distribution and he got me in! Best blagging opportunity in ages.

Was completely taken back to giddy 11-year-old form before it came on... Always knew it wasn't going to be the film I'd have made (my first time ever sitting through an entire Bay film), but enjoyed lots of it - for every cringeworthy bit of dialogue or stupid over-shaky camera move, there's a decent robot scene that balances it out.

Very happy with the robot voices, Weaving's Megatron is good,

didn't like the comedy cartoon noises Frenzy made though - kind of robbed him of any menace really, much more mechanical sounding voice effects for him would've been ace

Too much happening too fast in a lot of scenes, as people have said, but I'll be getting the dvd to have a good old wallow in the robot-on-robot action.

Loved that

Starscream legs it in the end, the bad guys get fuck all character moments but that little detail was nicely true to form.

Well as I said before I couldnt understand anything he was saying as it was in Spanish (so I cant comment about how cheesy his lines were) but I could still tell exactly what was going on just by his eyes and his mannerisms, also one of the main reasons (imo of course) that the robots were so well implemented was not just because of ILMs work but also the way Shia acted in those scenes, thanks in large to his performance you actually believe he is talking to giant robots.

I was 5 years old when I saw the Transformers movie back in the 80's. I remember the excitement and anticipation of wanting to see this movie. Now 20 odd years later and I feel I owe it to that 5 yr old to see this movie. I dont care if its good or bad, it has to be seen.
