So it's completely finished then? Don't want to ask about it, but....

How's the sound? Visual effects look great from the trailers but I really want this film to have big metal-on-metal sound effects and cool distorted robot voices.

Yes it's totally finished.

The sound is superb. Perfect.

ILM just pissed all over WETA with the robots. I mean they are seamless. Just amazing.

BIG metal on metal. Robots are funny, but not stupid. Caring for the human race type stuff well the autobots are.

I can't talk too much about it but it was everything and more.

Some quotes from some of the people I invited:

Just got back from Sydney with RaYdeX, his brother and Kurai.

Met Phelan, Thylacine and Maksym as well as a couple of atomicans too. :(

The movie was much better than I was expecting. To hear the crowd cheer when Optimus Prime appeared made me cheer and clap loudly too. After seeing the 22 minute preview earlier this year I thought the movie was going to be focused too much on the people and not on the Transformers. I was wrong. The battles between the Autobots and Decepticons are lengthy and awesome.

I grinned a big grin when I saw the words "To punish and enslave..." on the side of a police car. Barricade :(

Even bigger grin when Optimus Prime spoke. Peter Cullen (The voice of Optimus Prime 20 years ago) is back. :(

I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone. I will definitely get this movie when it's on DVD. I really enjoyed it. Too bad Dexxie and I have work in the morning :(

Thanks Phelan for this opportunity.

OMG this movie was all kinds of super mega fucking awesome.

I LOVED it... Even Val (the wife) enjoyed it thoroughly, having loved Transformers when she was little (and was humming the theme all day at work leading up to it).

First third really gets you in with some awesome setpieces and reveals of the Transformers, middle gets a bit slower, and concentrates more on the humour (and succeeds on the majority of counts - the cinema was cracking up at parts, and not only because it had a large number of Transformers nuts) and then the last third pulls out all the stops, takes it up a notch, and <apply any other cliched term you can think of for really going full on>. Some shit you ain't NEVAH seen before beeyatch.

For me, I actually feel like Michael Bay has redeemed himself. For me (ie some are still gonna hate him). Last thing of his as director, that I really liked was probably The Rock, or Bad Boys, but this is going to be an ESSENTIAL DVD purchase, and if done properly will be THE demo disc for showing off your home theatre.

Speaking of Mr Bay, he was really nice, very humble and polite, and seemed quite nervous about the whole big event, red carpet thing. Megan Fox was smoking hot, as was Rachael Taylor, but as for other celebs showing up for the red carpet, meh. Barely anyone recognisable. Sam de Brito (SMH's "Sam and the City" columnist/bloggist) was there in a rather nice short dress, some model-lookin chicks I didn't recognise but people behind me thought were from 'Australia's Next Top Model' or whatever the hell, I saw Andrew G, ummm... someone who MIGHT have been Indiana Evans off Home and Away, but she was with the Top Model girls, so probably not... erm... yeah that's about all I remember. So yeah, meh.

We got to walk the red carpet, but considering once the celebs are done the photographers all run off (not that I was hoping to be photographed by any means) - and it was a camo carpet anyway hah - not as exciting as it might sound, especially as everyone was crowding around trying to get in, so no-one really knew where they were going ha.

And thanks again go to Phelan for the opportunity!

ZOMG !

How awesome ~!

No-ones allowed to post any proper reviews or spoilers until at least the 23rd, or it's lawsuit your arse by the way.

I have been a fan of Transformers since... Well, always, they're a big, proud, part of me. Fingers crossed, always will be too.

So when I say that this movie was FUCKING AWESOME , understand that it's not said lightly.

The movie was brilliant, I had my reservations going in, and left with none of them.

The Transformers themselves were extremely well done, with easily some of the best CG I have ever seen, and the new "look" to the transformers was fine. It has grown on me I guess, but aside from that, it looked very good, and fit in properly.

Any travesties that Michael Bay may have performed have been redeemed.

Went to the premiere with Phelan.

TF was fantastic. First time I've come out of a cinema blockbuster since LOTR:Fellowship of the Ring absolutely buzzing. Took me a beer and a half hour before I stopped talking so fast.

Sure, there are probably things you can nitpick about the film, but I think overall Bay got the tone of the film right (you won't see people getting their limbs blown off here, so everyone can enjoy it). There's quite a few funny moments in there, the plot is sorta straightforward but if you want to see giant robots smash other giant robots, you will come away very happy. Not a boring moment in the whole flick.

The entire Japanese population is going to get a large boner about this flick. I predict the birthrate to triple in the next 9 months, with the weight of the Japanese population sinking the islands into the sea.

I should also mention the special effects. Easily top three of all time, if not number one. ILM really outdid themselves.

And despite my reservations about some of the designs of the robots in photos I had seen, when you see them move, you simply will not give a f*ck. And the designs really grew on me too.

God, such an entertaining flick.

Also got to go last night. What can I say?

Was expecting this to be a bit rubbish ended up being blown away.

Definately a big screen jobbie though, saw some of the scenes on TV this morning and they didn't look near as good.

Will review when the embargo is up but impressions were great.

As soon as my own embargo is up I'll write a review.

I'm still buzzing today.

Was at after party, met Michael Bay and talked to him about fan reactions etc.

And today he signed my Transformers T-Shirt. Images of it to follow :(

And you still didn't punch him in the face for not including Soundwave in the film did you?

Look what I enjoy you may not.

I love movies like Aliens, The Rock, Goldeneye, Sean of the Dead, Batman Begins etc.

It may not be your cup of tea. It was mine though, and Jonos, and Tssks, and a bunch of forum guys from across websites in Australia - mainly gaming/transformers/geek/tech sites.

Let's all hate Phelan :(

I'm way ahead of you. :(

Well hate is a strong word. Extremely jealous would be a better way of putting it. I didn't think I could be any more hyped for this movie, but along comes Phelan and takes my excitement to a whole new level. Damn you to hell indeed!

And seriously, July 27th. Cunts.

I've gone from nothing but Bay bashing since the movie was announced to now being really hugely excited about it.

Bloody Scots :(

well after all these reviews, I'm now finally excited about this film. My son, who is giant robot mental, is going to explode during the viewing.

Aw he's so lucky to be the right age for this - if I could show the most recent trailers to my 11-year-old self I'd fear for his mental state.

All the early reports sound so positive, still want to keep expectation levels down to realistic levels though
