This'll probably raise a few eyebrows...

1. Ferris Buellers Day Off (1986)

2. Aliens (1986)

3. Top Gun (1986)

4. Die Hard (1988)

5. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)

6. Terminator (1984)

7. The Empire Strikes Back (1983)

8. Beverly Hills Cop (1984)

9. Hawk The Slayer (1980)

10. Wargames (1983)

Loads of almost-rans including Ghostbusters, Return of the Jedi, Back to the Future, Blade Runner, Fast Times at Ridgemount High, Evil Dead, Airplane!.. Theres so many ace films from the 80s.

Tron is crap. Yes, its about computer games, yes it has an original (then) plot, and yes the effects were innovative and interesting, but the film is barely watchable tat.

Predator was a good movie, but with Die Hard and Terminator on the list it just lacks something.

And number 10 was a very difficult choice between Wargames and Back to the Future (and Ghostbusters). Wargames won in the end coz Matthew Broderick is a better actor than Micheal J Fox.

You take that back! You take that back right NOW!

Ok, granted it's not the best film ever made, but "barely watchable tat"?

Then again, I kinda like The Black Hole too...

Ok then here are my top films of the 80's

1 Back To The Future

2 Raiders Of The Lost Ark

3 Robocop

4 BladeRunner

5 This Is Spinal Tap

6 Platoon

7 Stand By Me

8 American Werewolf In London

9 Aliens

10 Brazil

Special mentions to Bill & Teds Excelent Adventure, Ferris Buellers Day Off, The Empire Strikes Back and many many others. Yes in the end I couldn't find room on the top ten for Tron either.

That one where a right happy tune plays and they are all crowded into an open-topped vehicle and the take off through a happy partying crowd away from the camera then the camera will slowly lift up high into the air with the car moving further away.

Close up of vehicle with everybody laughing a high fiving each other then main protagonist jumps up with fist in the air and shouts, "Yeah!".

Freeze frame, fade to black and credits.

Robocop!!!!!!! It needs inclusion. That movie has it all. Great action, a superb villain, lots of violence, cool lines, some drame, ace music and satire to boot. It's not an empty film but a true classic.

But it's your list of course

Speaking of which, I will come back to my villains thread later. The weekend perhaps.

My top ten would be something like this

1 - Blade Runner

2 - The Empire Strikes Back

3 - Return of the Jedi

4 - Aliens

5 - ET

6 - Die Hard

7 - Back to the Future

8 - Predator

9 - Batman

10- Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

I'm assuming that Raiders was 1979 or thereabouts??

And as for fucking Ferris Buellers Day Off - why the fuck do people like that movie - just shite from start to finish.

In no particular order, my favourite 80s movies would probably look something like:

Aliens

Cinema Paradiso

Empire Strikes Back

The Terminator

Robocop

A Christmas Story

GhostBusters

The Shining

Back to the Future

Die Hard

Though there are many, many other films to choose from- most of which I was sad to have to leave out

Day of the dead

Escape from NY
