Tonma, knob off back to NTSCUK and read Cacophanus posts there instead. It's very obvious that you and cacky are aquainted. While your posts may in your own mind come accross as the voice of reason against the oh so unfairly picked on Cacky. They don't.

Just as you are i'm free to read whatever i like when i like. So no, thanks anyway but i'll read his posts on here too.

As for me and Cacophanus being aquainted then i'll guess you'll think what you want whatever i say. If i did know him (which i don't) then i'd still feel the same way as i do now so it makes no difference.

Oh and i don't give a shit how my posts come across to others. I'm writing what i feel, i don't care in the slightest what you think of my posts.

Why, thank you, Rob! i'm sure that's supposed to be in some way insulting, but it's gone way over my head! i mean, I thought casual and hardcore were tragic enough labels, but someone saw fit to invent a third one? They need to have a wank.

no, i'm not 'seriously putting those genres into the same bracket'. But you cannot deny that they are very specialist genres with a defined audience. As do mecha games funnily enough. And I don't see why anyone should feel belittled simply because they don't wish to sample the 'delights' of any or all of these genres. I don't scream bloody murder at people who didn't buy, say, In Memoriam, or who aren't l33t enough to have bought Katamari Damacy on it's day of release because it's THEIR DECISION WHAT THEY WISH TO PLAY and their decision whic gaming avenues that they wish to explore. You're all wanking on about why a fucking games magazine doesn't cover every fucking game in existence, when whe have this amazing thing called the internet choc full of information about every game under the sun. you should try it some time!

Bugger, I thought I included enough verbal japery for the avoidance of you getting upset. I'll chuck in some smileys next time.

A good game is a good game regardless of its 'target audience' (in any case, how on Earth do 'mecha games', which we've been knocking from pillar to post trying to define in any meaningful way, have a 'defined audience'? "Oh, you're not a mecha fan, you won't be interested in Cybernator or Virtua On." What the fuck?), and I'd rather hear about good games than sit back and blithely nod my head while self-righteous jackasses go about pre-emptively trashing anything they don't know about.

Comrade is perfectly justified in objecting to Cacophanus's mode of expression, and indeed anything he says (even if he does choose to object to literally anything he says) but going beyond that and getting worked up to the point of flatly rejecting anything one picometre outside of the mainstream is completely uncalled for and frankly insulting. Is needlessly turning the forum into a popularity contest that important to him?

"I am not as interested in mecha games as you" suddenly becomes "no-one should be interested in mecha games because YOU are and I say so". It's just noise.

If we can get away from personality politics for a second, if anyone comes to this forum and enthuses about their favourite genre, and gets a hostile response, that's a fantastic way to quickly sap the life out of this forum. See: Edge Forum, where the opinions were carefully pre-packaged and transgressors were antagonised until they quit.

Anyway, I'm bored now. Please, everyone carry on your personal vendettas against each other because it's much more interesting to read than discussion about games.

So Transformers, eh?

Who came on here and dared say they liked it as a third person shooting game with added nostalgia bonuses?

I like Halo.

Isn't Halo a mecha game? After all, you're really only telling the MJOLNIR armour what to do.

*hides*

Master chief would have to be twice the size and more clunkier to move to be a mecha game, according to cacky, anyway.

But what the hell is the definition of mecha anyway? Is it just Big Robots killing each other? Is that it? Does something have to be inside the robot for it to be mecha? Or is controlling one by remote control cool enough? What about a giant robot game seen from the FP perspective? Is that still a mecha game, in that the robot itself is self aware? If so, isn't mecha just a sub category of the shmup genre?

God - move even slower than he *already* does?

Aye, and I'm still none the wiser as to what an actual macha game must consist of, because in different posts we have different explanations. Metal Arms, Virtual On and Steel Battalion are all part of the same genre?:D

"I am an EDGE mentalist who can't read but can use Photoshop."

Penny Arcade slagged off Halo for it's level repetition and dull combat, as have I (though I enjoyed the game more than they seemed to). They inferred the same idiocy of people who adhere to the mind-numbing crap that Halo is supposed to be good. They were equally as pissed and expressed the ire in a fasion no less acerbic. Penny Arcade's creators are no better or worse, in this respect, than I.

Listing a game and actually being able to post it out are two different things. YesAsia, who I picked for their no-VAT thing, had it listed as well but it took 'em 4 weeks to tell me they couldn't source it at all.

Incidentally, can you speak Japanese? Cause that may be why there's no language barrier for you. So is there a barrier for a non-Japanese speaking person, noing nothing of the different letters and alphabets?

Well, then you need to buy more games from Play-Asia or find another equally efficient importer (and my Japanese is pretty basic, so anyone should be able to cope with Gigantic Drive).

In other matters, I do see the funny side of marking comments in red and have a remarkablly affable sense of humour for most things. Yet...if one of these EDGE purple tipped and heavily veined throbcocks spurts Satanic semen across the ether I feel obliged to snipe the shitter down. I will also happily smite these shitblisters until Hell freezes the fuck over. The simple solution to this is as follows:

1) Don't guffaw in unison like some troupe of Nathan Barley clones.

2) Be nice to noobies and don't pull any middlecore faux elitist shit.

3) Play more games so you have a clue.

Don't worry, I am here for the rest of your goddamn lives.

I note with interest that fun apparently doesn't come into your 3 step programme. is gaming more of a chore for you then? that's sad. you need some singstar in your life.

I don't see where they inferred this idiocy. I read the entire post when they "reviewed" Halo, and they didn't mention it. The second strip's post you linked to didn't say anything at all about Halo. I can only assume you are inferring this from "Just push the buttons register biscuit" which seems like a great deal to infer. Now, this is far more likely to be insulting game shop staff, or someone who thought that a game that paid reviewers to say it was a "Halo killer" sounded like it was good. Even if they were talking generally about people who like Halo (which seems very unlikely) since it was in a comic, if they were asked I'm sure they would admit it was meant in jest (and anyone who actually contacts Gabe or Tycho can leave their dignity at the door).

Even if it wasn't meant in jest and Penny Arcade wanted all us Halo lovers to understand what slack jawed yokels we are, who gives a fuck? Gabe and Tycho don't strut about this board like you do, so they escape our wrath! Why do you need a web comic to validate your views? No one makes a big deal over this comment here because 1) it's fantastically vague, and 2) It's years old!

Honestly, Cacky the only reason you're going on about Penny Arcade is because it was a desperate attempt to deflect the issue even further. You know people love Halo because they enjoy it a lot, and you know that your "reason" for this love is absurd, offensive, and incredibly wrong.

Oh no you don't. You've already ruined big robots for me, and you're not ruining Chris Morris as well.

Hopefully, in about 10 pages time all the will to argue will be spent and we'll break through to the funny side, Comrade and Cacophanus will sit down together for a pint and be able to hold a civil conversation......

Cacophanus: Y'know, after the first 10pages I couldn't be arsed writing out the long arguments so I just copied and pasted my previous comments.

Comrade: That's great, so did I!

Cacophanus: No, you are wrong

Comrade: liar

Cacophanus: sheep

Comrade: genre

Cacophanus: Middlecore

Comrade: Mech*

Cacophanus: Zombie

Comrade: Shevek

Cacophanus: Shitblister

Comrade: Virtual On with Wizards

Cacophanus: Fuck off to Findus

Comrade: Fuck off to uk anime fanboy

<awkward silence>

It's inately ironic. I like it. Although ideally there should be a word for the concept that doesn't require so much explanation.

Remember! If you're offended by middlecore... you just might be middlecore. <_<
