Cult, Kitsh and Crass

Yo. I'm after some suggestions for dodgy cult films that are pretty funky. Extra points if they involve sexy 60s/70s bitches ala Russ Meyers. Basically I want to make a CG animation pastiche of such flicks, complete with mad psychedelic colours and tits and stuff. It's just an initial idea, one that I hope to build into a viable honours project for my final year at uni.

Stuff that has inspired me so far (film and otherwise):

Yeah, I'm after just mad camp, sexy, quirky funny shit. Anyone know of similar stuff? I'm guessing Barbarella is another thing I could check out. Aint seen it, though. Feel free to recommend cartoons and TV programmes, too.

Mars Attacks is exactly the sorta thing I want to end up with at the end. Good suggestions, Danny-Boy! I've never seen that Grand Theft Auto flick. Is it any good? I mean, it's probably shit, but is it enjoyable? Fopp are selling it cheapish. Man, I can see the research into this project leaving me with a stack of absolutely shit films in my DVD collection

I've never seen Barbarella but it definitely looks to be the sort of thing that I'm after. I've yet to decide if my animation is going to be set in space. A few things are certain: it will have super villains and sexy femmes, one of which will be a ninja. She may or may not kidnap the president.

I might steal the plot of Bad Dudes wholesale and inject it with breasts and funk.

There is absolutely no way I'm going to buy a DVD called 'Orgy of The Dead.'

Rocky Horror I can borrow off any number of daft female friends. I wouldn't have thought about checking it out, but I will now.

Tell me what inspiration I can get from Breakin' 2? I've always wanted to watch it, as a big hip-hop fan, in any case. What do you reckon it has that I can apply to my project?

I was thinking as it's going to be a series of images or whatever it is you're doing, some of the dance sequences would be ace. Especially linked in with the funky music from the film. With good timing it could be really effective to shop some break dancing pieces, the Batman series POWS and CRUNCHES and then some wicked car chase action from Vanishing point. All linked together.

EDIT: It's occured to me that I don't really understand what you're trying to do.

I don't fully know what I'm trying to do yet. This is just pre-planning so that I've got some good ideas and research done before uni kicks off again in September. I'm just hoping to absorb these films and peice together all of the stuff that I think is cool. Hopefully I can get some ideas off you guys, too. Your idea of dance routines, for example, is pretty inspired. I'll try and get that stuff in.

Trust me, man. It'll be good. Thanks for the help! Keep it coming, folks...

Space Adventure Cobra

is way up there in terms of kitchness, on a par with Ulysses 31. As is Interstella 666!

I might buy my ass some dodgy cartoon DVDs. This seems like a good excuse to buy Ulysses 31 on DVD B)

However, there seems to be a lack of big breasted babes in these suggestions (with the exception of 'Rank Dead Sex 8' or whatever). They're going to be essential to my animation. There must be some dedicated Russ Meyer pervs on this board. What stuff is "good?"

I've just entered an eBay auction for a Region 2 version of Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill. I feel dirty.

But it's research, yo!

It's the only one of his films I've seen, but it's reguarded as his best.

Or his least crap.

Whichever's funnier.

I'm buying that one in particular because it is a big jugs jamboree that also deals with violence. The dialogue is stupendous.

"What do we drink to?"

"Oh, let's drink to trains. They're big, fast and strong and they make a lot of noise."

There's a film called 'The incredibly strange creatures who stopped living and became crazy, mixed-up zombies'* that's probably right up your proverbial alley.

Jonathan Ross wrote a book all about the kind of kitsch, camp films you're after. I think it was called 'Sleaze-o-rama!'*

Oh, and either 'Super Vixens' or 'Ultra Vixens' starts with a scene of an elderly Hitler being fucked S&M style by mammoth-jugged brunhildas at the beginning.

*Not sure if this is the exact title, but it's pretty close.

Tis the bouff, who is also in Cradle of Fear with her tits out, she has her tits out in this movie and also in some movie about nuns going mad from not getting any and having sex with demons, where Bouff gets her tits out. Pervirella has Jonathan Ross and Mark Lemarr in it evern though it's a porn movie :P I'm not kidding

Flash Gordan is one that I totally forgot about. Staplehead: the stuff you've hit out with is like solid gold, man. Any ideas if that Jonathan Ross book is any good? I need to do a lot of reading for my honours project.

Thanks for the suggestions folks. They seem to be getting more and more debauchered. And Vemsie has yet to chuck in

I'd recommend:

Von Trier's The Idiots

Baise-Moi

Delicatessen

Chungking Express

Kids

Etc.

These are basically a bunch of foreign films! I have Chungking Express. What a daft little film.

Again, Staplehead seems to have the right idea with that Katakuri talk. I need to see that flick. Ta for the reminder.
