Disgaea Hour of Darkness

Exactly. And I'm terrified of using CDs in mine, it really seems to be struggling sometimes with them. PS1 CDs are fine, PS2 CDs appear to be dodgy.

My PS2 doesn't like blue disks, and it appears to truly hate my copy of Disgaea. Last night it took about half an hour of trying to get it working.

Good game if you can get it to work though. Love the humour of it all, but it's a bit bewildering at first.

THere's something strange about it.My PS2 does some weird things when i play PS1 games in it.THe main thing it does is make the screen flash white every couple of seconds.THe only way i can get around this is by using the original PS1 lead.It never happens on any PS2 games.

Now Playng Disgaea also gives the strange White flash when i play it.So i put in my PS1 RGB lead and it went away...Strange.

My PS2 seems to be making a strange noise every time the disc is being activated, ANd that happens a lot in the opening section what with all the talking.

Oh yeah, PS2 cds make my PS2 go crazy, like it's trying so hard the insides of the drive are breaking!

It's probably way cut down if it's only on a cd, think of how much speech and graphics are in that game including all that secret stuff, and the videos at the beginning! christ, why did they put it on a cd? Stupid idiots *hugs USA version* ;)

I should have bought the USA version. In fact i would have if Red dead revolver had been out today...Bloody Rockstar.

I suppose i could take it back, My PS2 sounds like it's dieing anyway, When it's in the drive.

I'm talking about the USA version of course, I don't know what's been cut out. There should be a menu where you can change the sound from setereo to mono, tinker with the volume and change the speech to English (I thought it defaulted on Japanese but I can't remember)

edit:

wakka wakka wakka

PAL version is English language only, with Japanese battle cries during the fights. all songs are now instrumental only (and so don't have the singing on top obviously). Quick, go get the USA version while you still can!!

THe japanese voices must be one of the things removed then.I just had another look through the menu's and didn't see an option. ;) Well the voices are alright i suppose.

EDIR:They're definitely not there.

I think i will just take this version back.If the US version has just had a rerelease it shouldn't be too hard to get hold of.It's not that i really care about the voices or anything, It's just that i think my UK ps2 might die if i play this too much.

Ah well.At least it got a release over here, Which is something i suppose.

So, just by reading the posts above, it seems the PAL version of Disgaea is missing Japanese voices, song vocals and potentially videos as well.

Can anyone who's played the US version comment on how much difference this is likely to make to the game? Seems superficial enough to me (although if the videos are missing I can see how this might affect the storyline) but it would be nice to know.

None!

I've never seen any videos myself, so I don't know what to make of that. All the plot progression is done either in-game or through 2D cutscenes. There are a few gameplay demos on the pre-menu screen, but it sounds like they're there.

The missing song lyrics thing is nothing to worry about. The Mika Bomb track that's on the American version is pretty crap anyway.

As for the voices it's hardly a huge problem. I've had the US track on most of the time and it's perfectly decent. The plot is hardly serious most of the time anyway.

Basically, the only thing I can see as being a problem with the PAL version is the PS2's wonderful handling of CDs.

Yep. I'm playing it on a borrowed (my brothers) barely used PS2. It takes about 10 attempts to boot each time. The PS2 really is a shoddy piece of junk (in terms of build quality).

This game is bonkers. What sadist invented all that geo-malarky? My head feels like it's going to explode trying to grasp that. Smash one and I get a zillion hit combo!

And 'item world'? Mad.

Just wait until you start on the whole Specialist thing, and levelling up weapons, and opening up all the hidden classes. Oh, and trying to get the Dark Assembly to do anything. Then of course there's the levelling.

I only really started to understand Geo Panels the after about 20 hours. It's not really that complex when you get down to it, although it's really satisfying getting a full combo thingy.

It's really rather fab.

No it's fucking shit.

I just died at what I think was the last battle of the first proper mission - Prince Vy something. The game made me sit through ALL the credits and then gave me an option to save - which I did thinking it would save experience points or something. NOPE! My save game is now at the very beginning of the game which means I have to do it all again including the tutorial.

What a load of shite.
