Ninja games

Any form of the Mystical Ninja* franchise is worth looking into, although the first N64 game is probably the pinnacle of the series. (IMHO of course.)

*I know, it's on the borderline of the 'ninja' genre, but still...

Then again, I would recommend the series, wouldn't I?

Ninja Golf (as seen in my avatar) is probably good for the comedy aspect alone.

I thought you avatar was from wario ware, the laughing guy standing to the left of the cog puzzle where you have to resuce that guy...

PS2 Shinobi was fun IIRC - lots of 'sudden death' opportunities and some fiddly jumpy bits - not exactly revolutionary - but probably worth the £10-15 it probably costs now...

I loved Tenchu WoH to be honest - I revelled in the myriad ways of completing each mission - I revelled in the replay value - I revelled in the whole damn thing frankly.

Except for the 'sudden death opportunities' which came in the form of those 'hidden' bottomless holes or simply throwing your zipline 2 pixels too far from what the developers intended :)

I really should try the first 2 then? :D

From http://reference.animeworld.com/glossary/i...?a=list&d=2&w=S

3. shinobi Sneaking; doing secretly; doing quietly.

This word is usually combined with other words. For example "shinobi ashi" = "tiptoing/waking quietly"; "shinobi koe" = "whispering"; "shinobi komu" = "sneaking into". | Ninja; spy; assasin. A short version of "shinobi no mono" (literally "person of secrecy"), the original term for ninja. Shinobi perhaps has a slightly more formal or old-fashioned air than the word ninja, although the meaning is identical. Syn: shinobi no mono; ninja

Also from http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Ninjutsu

Ninjutsu (忍術, also called Shinobi-jutsu or Ninpo) is a collection of techniques originally practiced for espionage purposes. It includes methods of spying, confusing enemies, and gathering information. Ninjutsu can also involve training in disguise, escape, concealment, geography, meteorology, medicine, and explosives. Practitioners of Ninjutsu have in the past been seen, at least in legend, as assassins for hire, and have been associated in the public imagination with other activities which are considered criminal by modern standards. The character nin/shinobi means "steal in" or "endurance".

I think they are the same thing then :D

Nightshade and Shinobi are a little bit difficult to control, they never approach Ninja Gaiden in the control department. There's a lot of sudden death situations (falling from buildings, etc. ) which tend to annoy after a few times.

Also, Shinobi and Otogi both commit one of the worst gaming sins IMO, and that's giving you a weapon that sucks your health while you're not attacking. It really pisses me off when you're trying to explore. At least in Ninja Gaiden it was optional.

Oh, and dogs with swords. Nasty little fuckers.

Ninja Gaiden's not about a ninja, it's about a shinobi! Or at least he's not very stealthy, does no ninjitsu, carries no ninja weapons or clothing and does no espionage at all.

As far as I know, shinobi is just the Japanese name for ninja, who were originally Chinese. Or something.
