I haven't seen that many really, the living dead trilogy, return of the living dead, zombie flesh eaters 1 & 2 (Dislike 1, fucking detest 2), brain dead/dead alive, and erm that's all I can think of. Haven't seen the Dawn remake or Shaun yet as I can't get to the cinema :( and I've been trying to find cemetery man/dellamorte dellamore (sp).

Got any favorites? Fancy recommending some others?

Well the dead return in them so I guess Raimis trilogy is a zombie film.

have you tried

The Beyond (I love this make sure its the uncut version and its Fulci best IMO much better than Flesh eaters)

Gates of Hell(city of the living dead again uncut only)

House by the Cemetary (never seen but Fulci fans love it)

The Blind Dead series of films(Knights Templar zombies)

Living Dead at Manchester Morgue(uncut)

Zombi 3

Zombie creeping flesh (so bad, its bad)

Plague of the Zombies (a hammer classic)

The Serpent and The Rainbow

Cant think of any others Kerraig may be able to recall many more. Havent seen him here for a while though?? Kerraig still alive???

Yes the beyond is defo worth a purchase but like I say ensure your buying the uncut version as otherwise its a waste of money. The BBFC cut it to ribbons in the 80's.

I forgot to add Versus(Japanese hyper zombies) Some people hate it but I thought it was a fun film.

Isn't versus about samurai's fighting zombies? If thats right, I can't see how it could fail to be fun B)

House by the Cemetary (never seen but Fulci fans love it)

Awful, awful film. Only worth seeing for a woman barf out her entire innards and then pull a mans brains out through the back of his head. Really, really bad film with perhaps the worst ending to a film ever.

"Did that screen really crack when that child was running towards it?" :(

I think I saw house by the cemetary

God it was awful - isn't there a scene in it when someone randomly saws a guy's head off in his garage after he catches him smoking weed with his daughter?

I assume the bbfc were having a bad day and cut out all the story and left the gore intact :(

So bad that even watching it for first time I f frwded the last 20 mins

Edit: this was City of The Living Dead, not the equally shit sounding House by the Cemetary

You should also try Return of the Living Dead 1+2. The first is better, but the second is worth a watch. Avoid the third though.

I was just about to ask whether I was the only person who liked return of the living dead :D , so would you say the sequel is worth a purchase?
Please explain why you feel they're "fucking second rate mongy rubbish"
Sure. Having revisited both in the last couple of weeks, they've been found extremely wanting. Admittedly, Dawn less so but Day is one of the most completely dull, uninteresting wastes of celluoid I've ever had the misfortune to watch. Poor acting, little character exploration and a story that goes nowhere. It's not funny, it's not clever and it's certainly not scary. Bub is cool, though and reading that original script someone posted, it could've been glorious...but 90% of the cool stuff was ditched. All in all, the most expensive coaster I've ever bought.

Dawn, for all its glorious subtexts, does little to my mind to merit the classic staus its fans claim it deserves. Yes, it makes a few biting points on modern life and has a great opening act but overall, it left me unsatisfied. Perhaps some find the 'amateurishness' endearing but I don't and I'm left wondering what happened to the promise Romero showed in Night, a truly great film, and can't but help feel that it was a fluke...

But whatever floats your boat/yanks your crank.

Oh well, I pretty much disagree with almost everything you said, yet horses for courses etc.

Btw out of interest what would be your favourite zombie movie, asssuming you have one?

Night of the Living Dead, with The Serpent & The Rainbow a close second (I actually find that film scarier). Oh, and that old Hammer one where they the rich landowner kills people to use in his tin mine for sentimental reasons (first one I ever saw!)

Can I just ask, what it is you like about Day in particular?

Return of the Living Dead Part 2 is worth a rental if you can find it anywhere. It's almost a remake of part one but with the humour turned up. It's kind of like a reversal of Evil Dead 1+2 quality wise.

Another one worth a viewing, although not strictly a zombie movie but does have a town of re-animated victims is Dead and Buried. Made in 1981 by Dan O Bannon (writer of Alien if memory serves), it's not a bad little chiller.

Re-Animator. One of the best zombie flicks ever!

Fishy

I'm glad you mentioned Re-Animator Fishy; I was thinking about it and I couldn't decide if it was an actual zombie flick or not.

I reckon most of the best ones have been mentioned further up in the thread, so I would only like to add:

Cemetery Man

Zombie Holocaust.

Ooh! How could I have forgotten Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue!

Tis a terrible movie with a great cover. Trailer scared me when I was young though. Can anyone remember a film called Terrovision when a us family get a new satellite system it brings a killer alien into their house. It was Da'BOMB in a cheesy as hell kind of way. No zombies but a 80's classic.

Yes indeedy. It had a teenage "bad dude" character in it called O.D.

I once saw a film called The Video Dead. It had Zombies coming out of the TV, a bit where a zombie gets an iron stuck in it's head, and the main hero character gets chopped in half by a chainsaw half-way through the film.

Rubbish, but it's got zombies in it.

Good lord! I had completely forgotten about this (and Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue). It was bloody awful.

Wasn't there one called Dr. Butcher MD? I'm sure it was AKA for another well known Zombie movie (possibly Zombie Holocaust or Manchester Morgue but I can't be sure).
