Ok, don’t get mad but Tool seem to have passed me by over the years.  I heard Sober today on a random Apple Music playlist and liked it so where should I start?

There is an Apple Essentials playlist so is that good or will I be missing out on other stuff?

Their stuff works much better in general as an album.

Lateralus is the best.

It's immutable fact.

Couldn't agree more with @Lovelyman, playlists are not the way to listen to this incredible band.  Start with Lateralus and make sure you listen to the whole album, report back when you've reached the end of the Lateralus/Disposition/Reflection/Triad section

For some unfathomable reason Tool occupied a space in my head alongside Slipknot. I have no idea why, and I never listened to them. I came by a track via a YT reaction video of all fucking places, and now I'm in. This is so much exactly my kind of stuff I'm genuinely angry at myself for not checking them out years ago. I did unfortunately start with the old Apple Essentials playlist, but I've since been putting whole albums on, lights down, lie down.

No Scotland dates 😡

I think for that reason, this will be the first tour since 1997 (when we drove down to see the entire tour at London Astoria) I won't be going. Ticket prices are brutal too - if there'd been a Scottish date I think I'd have been in, but they're starting to look a bit like the world's laziest & greediest band.

Part of the problem's the last album, which just didn't register with me - there are moments, but on the whole it feels quite unadventurous, almost template-based, with a lot of very familiar-sounding parts & structures - & Maynard sounds so unengaged. I'm fully prepared to accept that I've changed, not them - but that's perhaps the problem. For a nominally 'progressive' band they've not really moved a great deal in 20 years. :(

My wife got me tickets for London. They didn’t seem ludicrously priced for that level of band - certainly not Metallica levels of rip-off.

Exactly, it's not the 2000s anymore and arena shows are expensive.

When I looked at the tickets for the original London show Ticketmaster immediately punted me on to the Viagogo site where the usual scalpers were selling for stupid prices because they’d sold out already. When I looked at Ticketmaster after they announced the second date tickets started somewhere between £50-£60. When you consider the cheapest tickets for Metallica’s last O2 shows in 2017 were over £90 it seems pretty resonable.

?

£60 would be great!

Sorry, my prices for Frankfurt look very different.

I know it's not the 2000s, but I am not spending over 100 quid on a ticket, stadium or not. I'd prefer smallest possible venues in any case, but the prices local to me are not reasonable, unless I'm being a fool and can't see cheaper tickets.

Those are the Platinum ones @Spoonman, Ticketmaster absolutely gouge people for seats in those sort of areas. The platinum seats at the O2 are a similar price. Presume you’ve scoured the seats further back ?

I just took this grab of tickets for the second show in London.

And then the Platinum ones…
