Initially I thought the Fear Inoculum single was unremarkable as hell, but eventually it got it's hooks in. It took a while to reveal its complexities through repeated listens.

I can see the whole album being like that.

Radiohead fans frequently have the same issue when they release a new album.

I understand how complicated music works.

This is all ambling noodling and really really obvious riffs.

Pneuma is hitting all the same notes as Fear. Underbaked ambient noodling with phoned in vocals.

Gotta trust those single listen reviews though!

What, like the one you just did in your post?

Also, as absolutely fascinating as your running commentary is - and it certainly is "interesting" reading about someone listening to an established verbose and progressive band and expecting..what? Thrash metal or something? - why. not. instead... have a listen to it and sum it up in a single post that's a bit more constructive?

Fuck off.

You're incredibly arrogant.

I'm well within the remit of a discussion forum to post my thoughts on something.

You are incredibly rude and totally cool with throwing around insults, and also absolutely living up to your username.

Sure you can continue doing what you're doing but I wouldn't really call it a discussion when I'm pretty sure no-one else is that interested.

Is anyone else hearing snippets of previous songs? Can't tell if they're genuinely referencing past work or not. Like I say, repeated listens will no doubt reveal the answer.

I get bits of 10000 days in descending. Bits of Jambii too.

I'm not rude normally but I admit I do get a bit free and easy with the insults when something hits a nerve. Apols. I do think you tend to get personally offended (or seem to, I dunno) when people post criticism of things. But .

I do realise I can't judge this on first listen. But now I know Tool, I see in my mind that these songs are going to be possibly decent, but not overwhelmingly amazing like some of their past work. I have my expectations set high I guess.

Says the man talking about 'obvious' riffs.

Think you can do a better job than Tool?

Do you think all music criticism needs to be made by someone two ranks superior like Line of Duty? Because I can tell you now, Bach is dead.

I genuinely don't understand a single bit of what you just posted there. There's a clear failure of communication happening here.

I can't remember which song it is but there is one where swear to fuck it sounds like bits of It's over goodbye from the T2 soundtrack are weaved into the background and it's brilliant

Well, I'm sure this was common knowledge to fans but I was only drawn to the thread through a report. Went out to pick it up, only to find it's sold out and to order it would have cost €90. Spotify it is then...

Yeah. I was all ready to rush out and buy a regular CD (which I’m sure I saw available to pre-order, but I guess that was the retailers making the same assumption as me). I suppose they think people fall into the categories of either “super hardcore fans who’ll pay £80” and “only interested in digital”, making the production of a £10 cd a waste of time :s

There's some horrific clipping in one of the tracks.

I'm listening to it again.

Kevin Metal better get his hot take on my opinion ready.

My prior comment was more directed at your forum etiquette, I honestly couldn’t give a rat’s ass about your opinion.

Im absolutely loving this at the moment it has to be said, this is most defo Tools most Prog n Chill album and it suits their now more mature age. It feels like their “Crack the Skye”

Great work stinking up the Tool thread guys, good job Tool albums come out so frequently.

Pneuma though, right? Amazing track.

I listened to the live version of Invincible on YouTube a lot and they didn't have that weird synth voice bit in the middle when they performed it live, so it's always really jarring when I hear it. But it is still an awesome track as well and sounds lovely in clean album form. Overall I love the new album, they've still got it!

I’m not a huge Tool fan, personally I prefer my prog rock/metal in the form of The Mars Volta  or Porcupine Tree, but this for me is by far Tool’s weakest album. I quite like the title track but I don’t think there is a single standout track on it. I know 10,000 days isn’t that favoured but nothing on this comes near Vicarious or The Pot. I honestly think it would be better if every song was half the length they are.
