Are we all assuming that will be as good as the Cowboy Bebop one was?

I do like how the original content creators share what they really thought when the thing is cancelled, as opposed to the puff piece they are paid to say when it is still in development.

Should be better, Oda is involved supervising the scripts and its the worlds biggest manga. A lot to lose for a poor Bebop style adaption.

Wait, there's more Initial D coming?

Let's add a dodgy looking Formula 4 anime, Overtake!

And as a bonus, Hi-Drivers, which is a music video for now but apparently may become a full show, if you want pretty boy idols racing cars

Anyone tried to cancel and get a refund from Funimation?

Bought my son a year’s subscription for Xmas 21, then forgot it would auto-renew.

He doesn’t watch anime anymore (except Akira and Ghibli), so I’m hoping I can contact them and get at least a partial refund.

I’m cautiously optimistic. The show runner is a big fan of the manga, the casting is good, the physical sets look gorgeous, Oda is involved. I’m hoping it will be ok.

Hunter X Hunter I'd say. First episode gives the wrong impression; it's actually a very strategic, deep and sometimes quite dark Anime with a bit of adventure. Constantly hits with the moments every episode, no filler. Feels unnervingly real at times. Just flat out amazing.

Leftfield suggestion, for a palate cleanser between serious titles - 'Wacky TV Nanana'. Five minute comedy shorts about a TV crew (who happen to be bananas) searching for a legendary monster in order to save their jobs. Terrible animation, deadpan humour.

Watching old 90s anime again, and well its problematic. I remember buying Armitage III at the time, typical Blade Runner rip off but the animation is just gorgeous and the character designs were just amazing compared to what we get now. However, it's also really weird in that Armitage looks like a young girl and later has a relationship who just  plainly looks older. Pet Shop of Horrors is another title I'm watching since I owned only the first tape but oh man, again great animation and its much darker in tone than today but listening to the dub is brutal in the homophobic slurs thrown, and just butchers the story. Despite this having fun watching these forgotten gems.

Finally finished Stone Ocean, I was a bit disappointed with the opening but man the ending made up for it!

Spoiler

Such a mixed bag of a season, pacing and consistency was all over the place - but having an alternative dimension where things were semi-normal and Roundabout played certainly made up for a lot of it.

At the very least this certainly felt like a Bizarre Adventure, infact the most Bizarre by far.

I loved and hated it, almost in equal measure. A memorable season to be sure.

I love Spy X Family - it's so funny! I don't think I've laughed this hard since School Rumble and it does have some genuine heartwarming moments. Great show.

Assuming this has been extensively covered in this thread already, but Monster (early 2000 I think), might actually be the best anime I have ever seen.

It’s a dark psychological thriller that is played much more realistically than most anime I have seen. It’s largely set in nineties Germany which I was surprised to see work so well as an anime - the non Japanese setting actually makes it really interesting/unique and the period details seem very accurate to me. Even characters faces have a more expressive realism than I am used to.

If you told me it had inspired every serial killerpiece of media since I wouldn’t be surprised.

I can’t speak highly of it enough tbh

I have Monster on my watchlist as I'm always on the lookout for classic anime that isn't terribly written weeb bait shite.

This is the one for you then. I genuinely can’t think of any anime tropes in it. That’s not to say it’s perfect, but it does have that nineties episodic feel to it (in the same way that say, X files and Buffy do). But yeah give it a go, it starts strong and just gets better.

How long does it take to get good? The first 6 episodes make it seem like a kids Pokemon type of show.

I mean from my recollection a number of contestants should have already died during the tests and I thought it was pretty good by this point, some interesting strategic puzzles - but it constantly gets better as it goes along.

Apart from the Hunting aspect (that it really doesn't follow) I couldn't tell you any similarities between this and Pokémon.
